Do you need a reason to plan a trip to Walt Disney World?

Not really I think, but it is always fun to have one….what is ours for the November 2010 trip?

Rachel and Naomi-Ruth's 8th and 4th Birthdays plus Thanksgiving!

***links to additional posts in post #2***
Before the trip in March of 09 was ON, I already knew after our June 08 trip we should plan a trip around the girls’ birthdays and stay for Thanksgiving too. We decided 2010 would be a good year to plan it in, having 1 year in between trips. Mae would still be young enough to love all the Princess Magic and enjoy being a little girl at Disney, plus Margaret turning 4 should be old enough to remember some parts of this special trip as she get’s older.

I actually started planning this trip right after the June trip and began my resort research…knowing the 2010 trip we’d actually count as a “family of 6” we had few options of where and how much we wanted to spend or budget for the resort.

* 2 rooms at a Moderate Resort like POR (where we had stayed in 08)

* Family Suite at All Stars Music Resort

* A Cabin at FWC

* A Deluxe Suite at the Wilderness Lodge Resort

I started jotting down notes in a spreadsheet and Word doc’s about transportation, room size, beds, costs, etc….after staying at the Poly and on the monorail…I couldn’t see how going back to all bus transportation would be great….but we knew On-Site was the only way for us. Oh well, I guess we’ll sit on, after all, at the time I thought I had over 1 ½ years to decide.

Then came the Surprise Bounce Back Trip w/ my Parents just this past March (09) and the fateful day at AK and our visit to the DVC….

For those of you who read my previous TR know the whole story and you should be able to tell in my siggie….but we took the Plunge and bought into DVC!!!

Bay Lake Tower at CR, is our New Disney HOME! And we can’t wait to be there!

The CAST of Characters:

Naomi-Ruth (Margaret) (3): The upcoming trip will be her 3rd! She talks about going to “Didney Word” practically everyday and anytime it is mentioned she’s ready to pack her bags and go. She is part Princess and part Pirate, full of sweetness w/ a lot of crafty hyperactivity thrown in. Her favorite characters are any of the Fantastic 6 and the Princesses!

100_3837.jpg

Rachel (Mae) (7): The upcoming trip will be her 4th! She can’t wait to go for her next Birthday and get a “It’s my Birthday” button to wear. Mae is all Princess, she loves to sing and dance and dress up. Her favorite characters are Minnie, Jasmine, Belle, Ariel and her favorite attraction is the WEDway People Mover (TTA).

Image138.jpg

Rebekah (Aldine) (11): One of the twins and this upcoming trip will be her 4th! She can be my co-planner on this one and can’t wait to help me as we start planning more of the fine details. She is looking forward to bringing another one of her mini American Girl dolls and hopes it’s warm enough to slide down the waterslide at BLT. Her favorite characters are Jasmine, Belle, Remy (from Ratatouille) and Kim Possible. Her favorite attractions are BTMRR and Test Track, she’s thinking about if she’ll be brave enough to go on ToT w/ me.

100_2498.jpg

Nathan (Michael) (11): Twin to Aldine and as well this trip will be his 4th trip! He is the co-navigator while we are there and can’t wait to eat all the FOOD! Michael is my sweet boy and may not be mischievous like one of his favorite Characters, Jack Sparrow but loves treasure and mystery. He is lives each day w/ High-Functioning AUTISM (Aspergers) and this can make his trips to WDW a bit complex in finding the right balance of fun and rest…but overall the MAGIC of Disney always shines. Another of his favorite characters is Donald Duck and his favorite attraction is TSM.

100_2728.jpg

Dad/DH (Matt): He may not be as high of a Disney addict or as OCD about planning as me…but underneath that, his inner Mickey and Walt shine through. This will be our 7th trip together! For the most part the planning is up to me, but he chimes in on the important things like ADR’s and attraction must-do’s. His favorite Characters are Mickey, Alice (and all the other AiW friends), and that guy on Bald Mountain from Fantasia. His favorite attractions are Mission Space, POC, and BLAB.

100_2478.jpg

Me- MouseScrapper, Scrappie (Julie): Anything Disney brings out a huge smile on my face, but especially planning and going to WDW! I love researching, planning, and figuring out all the details and now sharing it w/ you my Dis-Friends. This will be my 8th trip to the World! My favorite characters are a bit like me…Piglet (small and helpful), Cinderella (homemaker extraordinaire and found her Prince), Mrs. Incredible (if only I had those expandable arms) and Mary Poppins (I love my spoon full of sugar). And a few of my favorite attractions are IASW and ToT.

100_2427.jpg

DMIL-E and DFIL-M Matt's Parents will now be coming w/ us for the first half of the trip (Fri 19-Tues 23). They have been to WDW several times and this will be their second trip coming w/ us! I think they are excited to return w/ their grandkids and help celebrate Mae and Margaret's birthdays.

I'm in!! Thanks for pointing out your TR ...I forget to look at siggie's.

I’ll have a POP w/ my BLT please, says the guest to the nice Disney Reservation lady (or man)….

Knowing this coming Sunday marks one week till my wonderful DVC guide (Sue) calls me to walk me thru my first DVC ressie for our upcoming trip, I wanted to give you all a little head-ups and maybe get some feedback on what has been happening in the realm of ressie decisions.

Most of you know that I’ve been dreaming of BLT (the resort, not the sandwich, even though BLT’s are my favorite sandwich) since April of 09 and I just couldn’t wait till Friday, November 19th 2010 rolled around to walk into the BLT lobby for my first time… that much hasn’t changed, but what has? :confused3

In the process of the last 8 months (April-November) I have been eagerly anticipating the 1 year and 11 month marks of our trips countdown (thanks for dancing  for/with me on DisMomAmy’s current PTR check it out if you haven’t already it’s her un-birthday celebration!) I will happily clue you in on what pre-pre planning I have done but not all at once let’s concentrate on my small order of POP and large helping of BLT….

The dates Nov. 19-27 have been firm for quite some time, but it was when I started looking at just this past correlating week from 09 and the entertainment/holiday schedule…did I start to realize there could be a flaw in our plan of dates.

I also was wary of a repeat end travel day for us, in particular for Michael (our DS who has HFA). I have been real good the last 3 trips w/ the kids to not schedule much (no park) on the first day-the travel/arrival day, but like most of you, I try to get the latest flight out on the last/departure day and pack in everything humanly possible on that last Disney day… ;)

But I think after Michael’s very hard flight home in March (despite the unforeseen turbulence it may have been too much) I really started thinking about wanting to add one more night and leave on Sunday the 28th.

Two reasons built into this:

1) we gain one more night of Holiday stuff (ie 1-night for DHS-Osborne Lights and 1-night for Epcot Candlelight Processional) :santa:

2) we can pack in the last day as we desire w/ no worries of leaving that night :thumbsup2 easier for all, yes?

Sunday the 28th could potentially be our 10th day at WDW but really it would be treated purely as a travel day-no park…breakfast, pack up and catch the DME :sad1:

I starting dropping hints to my DH about this possibility and didn’t quite get the response I was hoping for…he didn’t say “no” …just nothing, I don’t think his Disney Planning switch was on yet….how can that be? Mine’s on 24/7 365….isn’t yours :rolleyes1

Now I had checked our points and determined we would not have enough to add one more night w/out dipping into 2012 points (and I don’t want to do that yet  ) so I put the thought into the back shelf for now…

One week ago today I talked to Sue my DVC guide to get the ball rollin on making our ressie for BLT for 2010 and the question was asked about adding a cash night on the last night and then that was turned into the suggestion of switching our first night into the cash night and why not stay someplace w/ a lower cost than rack rate BLT and POP was born…

After getting off the phone, I informed DH of the Dec. 20th ressie to make date call and the POP first night suggestion and actually adding that 9th night…

His planning switch went on and he said “go for it!” :yay:

I went on WDW planning site (the next day…how did I restrain myself?) and checked the rack rate cost of 1 night Friday, 11-19 to Sat 11-20 at POP and BLT…who knew a BLT would cost so much? :teacher:

We’d need two rooms at POP (fam of 6)-standard view w/ 35 % of rr w/ our DVC discount = $149 (plus tax)

vs

1 2BR standard view room at BLT would be w/ 35 % of rr w/ our DVC discount = $546 (plus tax)

The numbers sealed the deal in which way to go, but I do have my concerns…. :confused3

1) will staying at POP be a bit of an anti-climax to over a yr of waiting to go back to Disney before arriving home at BLT? (no offense to those who love their POP)-DH says it would be like if we were driving we’d have to stay somewhere first

2) safety…we’d have to have 2 connecting rooms and just to feel secure that first night Matt and I would have to sleep separately 1 in each room…I’m not overly worried 1 kid would slip out in the night but still….

3) ADR mess up? I know for sure that I’ll be trying for the elusive CRT (for lunch) on Sat. 11-20 for Margaret’s actual birthday so will I have to call or log in on one date for that w/ one ressie number and then call or log in on another date w/ another ressie number for the rest of ADR’s ?

4) will luggage service move our stuff for us from POP to BLT? I want to try and get a BBB 8 am ressie that same morning to at MK…and more logistics what about valuables that don’t need to travel w/ us to the park and checking in to BLT that day?

5) would we have to have sep park tickets per each ressie?

YIKES? Is the side of POP worth it? I know I can call ask my guide some of these same questions but hoping for some advice, thoughts from you guys. Anybody ever do this? I know Kathy sorta did on her last trip but it was the same resort…

Love your thoughts and thanks for reading,

Scrappie J~

Up NEXT: The making of a BLT

Just sent you a PM - hopefully my directions will work & you'll have your links! :goodvibes

Ok got the link in there...but didn't exactly work like you said...but at least I know how to get the single post http code....

now I just need to fine tune it so you don't see the code just the title of the post

I'll look in my siggie...cause I know I did it there...DH showed me one and I just copy it each time

Good Morning Scrappie!! Here are my thoughts on POP... First - I'm glad you are adding it to the beginning and not the end. Like Matt said, it will be as if you had to stay overnight on the road before arriving. Moving from a 2BR at BLT to Pop would probably be very anticlimactic and not the best way to end your trip. The rest of my comments are below.

I think you will be OK because you are starting with POP rather than ending with it.

2) safety…we’d have to have 2 connecting rooms and just to feel secure that first night Matt and I would have to sleep separately 1 in each room…I’m not overly worried 1 kid would slip out in the night but still….

I wouldn't worry about this since it's just one night. Tim & I usually end up sleeping in separate beds even in the same hotel room because the kids each want to sleep with one of us and those little beds are too small for two adults in my opinion. Another option is to get some bells or something to hang on the doorknob. You would hear them if someone touched the door. I got that idea from Kathy.

I think you'll be OK here too - The first ADR you want for the whole trip is 11/20 right? Like you said, you'll have to make the rest of your ADRs the day after, but at least you'll still be able to make CRT on the first possible day. And I have to say that I had way too easy of a time making my ADRs this year. I don't know if it was that people didn't know that ADRs went back to 180 days or if people just don't plan that far out or if it was because I made them online, but they were practically throwing CRT at me. I never would have thought of going there if the online system hadn't suggested it. Hopefully you'll have the same good luck.

4) will luggage service move our stuff for us from POP to BLT? I want to try and get a BBB 8 am ressie that same morning to at MK…and more logistics what about valuables that don’t need to travel w/ us to the park and checking in to BLT that day?

From reading some other TRs I think that they will move your stuff for you. Momof2Disneyboys moved during her recent trip. They just took a cab (which is probably easier with a family of 4 than a family of 6). It cost them about $5 (moving from POR to OKW) and they chose to move their own stuff. They were surprised to find their room ready first thing in the morning. I think they had early plans somewhere too.

5) would we have to have sep park tickets per each ressie?
This could be tricky... Hopefully someone else will have a good suggestion for you. I wouldn't get any park tickets with the POP night. I think checking in at BLT on Saturday morning, before heading to MK would be your best bet. Can you check in that early? I think it would be too expensive to get one day park tickets with the POP night but it definitely could cause some stress on Saturday morning if you plan to be at MK before 8am. Would it be the end of the world to get to MK later?

If you can work out the ticket issue, I would say it is worth it! Ideally you wake up at POP, pack up your stuff, locking your valuables away inside a big suitcase and head over to BLT. (Probably quicker by cab.) Check-in & get your park tickets then head to MK. If you can work it out the extra night at POP would totally be worth it! :thumbsup2 I think taking advantage of the extra night to see some of the Christmas attractions would be amazing. I watched the Disney Christmas special you told us about and I was jealous...

I can't wait to hear about your reservations!!

I think the step you are missing is highlighting your title "I'll have a POP w/ my BLT please..." then click on the little globe with the chain link. Paste the http thing in there and you should be go to go!
