I had originally decided not to order a cake for our trip next month because the last time we ordered a cake in May 2008 from GF it was not what we wanted, and the qualiity seemes to have gone way down, and we would also need a special cake. just didn't seem worth the hassle. I thought the nice little pirate/princess cakes would be good, but i would need a dairy free cake. those can't be dairy free, but it seems you can request the standard 6" celebration cake atleast 7 days in advance and it can be dairy free!! Because i need it to be dairy free, i don't have the option of a larger personalized cake.....which is fine as the quality has been iffy lately.

So i called cake hotline and got Poly private dining, and for $29 i get the 6" Chocolate on Chocolate celebration cake. They're going to write Ohaha means Family on it and decorate with a few balloons and hearts, stuff like that. not much as it's only 6". She said i could have done an edible image, but it would have had to be a small one and it's just not worth it IMO.

So we'll see what we get in 2 weeks.

I would love to hear all about your cake when you return. I am lactose intolerant and have not ordered a cake before, at least not one that I could eat. I've ordered the treasure boxes for other family members. I'd love to be able to order a cake for us to all share, but am afraid of how it might taste. I make dairy free cakes at home and I love that Disney offers dairy free options, but sometimes the things that are dairy free are also gluten free. I'm not used to eating gluten free things, so they don't really taste that great to me (think gluten free hamburgerbuns, blueberry muffins, etc.) Better than nothing though!

Anyways... I'd love to hear all about your cake! Please share pics and details!:goodvibes:goodvibes

Can someone please answer a few questions? We are leaving in 2 weeks and I am starting to push the panic button over all the things I have not got done for our trip as well as the holidays!! I have read through several pages, but just need a few questions answered.

1) My husband will be celebrating his b-day and we will be eating at Chef Mickey's for dinner. I was going to do a Mickey head but since it is just 2 adults and 3 children and we will have the dessert buffet, I don't think we will really even eat much cake at all - I really just want it for the thought. And I don't want to spend much money. So, I am considering ordering the treasure chest cake - I think this would also excite the kids. How much is it and who do I need to call to order this? Any other suggestions?

2) We are also doing dinner at 1900 Park Fare and b-fast at CRT - I thought about ordering the glass slipper for the kids to surprise them. Should I do 1900 Park Fare since it is dinner, who do I call and how much is it? And will it feed 3 children (enough for them to at least have a sample)?

3)Are there any other "cool" things for the kids like the treasure chests and slippers? It will be 2 girls and one boy so I want them all to feel included.

4)Finally, this isn't cake, but related to b-day - is there anything else you can order for the table - centerpiece etc? Who do I call and how much?

Sorry for all the questions - I wish I had time to sit and do the research :surfweb: but right now I am in overdrive!! :scared1: Thanks again!!

It's nice to know they can do a dairy free cake. We are heading to WDW for my daughter's first birthday and I wanted to order a cake, but it would need to be dairy free since my daughter has issues with dairy. (She is currently on hypoallergenic formula.)

Has anyone actually tasted one of their dairy free cakes? Do they have a good flavor?

Just placed my cake order for this Saturday's dinner at Chef Mickey's. We are staying at the contemporary too,, and this is for my DH's birthday. I know Chef Brian will do a great job!! woo hoo! I requested a 10" custom cake, so we will just take it upstairs to our room and munch on it the rest of the week.

I just returned from WDW. We ate at Citircos. I ordered a 8 inch Nemo cake. It was really cute. I might be the exception here, but it turned out really good. Surpisingly it tasted great. It was white cake with custard and strawberries between layers. White chocolate fondant.
I have to figure out how to post pics on here. Describing it does not do it justice.
I booked with a bounceback rate before I left so I'll be back in WDW same time next year. I'll for sure order another cake from the GF!
Liz who is glad it worked out nicely.

Sorry- I can't find our receipt, but I think the treasure chest cakes were around $15. They are pretty cute. Your best bet is to just call the Dining Reservation number and tell them that you need to add some things onto your reservations. Tell them what you want for what meal and they can tell you how much it is. You can get special centerpieces. I think they have one that is a pop out card for the characters to sign. Again, the dining reservation cm will be able to give you all the info you need.

Have a great time!

The cake we had in 2008 from GF was Diary Free....it wasn't bad really for a dairy free cake. the one from Poly I think she said was dairy and egg free. we'll see how it tastes..... I've made him cakes at home...but i think they just come out very dry.

The treasure chest cake is around $15 and about the size of two cupcakes put together. Some of the restaurants can put candles in it if you ask. These can be added to your ADR through Dining and I believe you can ask for them when you arrive but I'd have it added to your ADR to make sure that it was thawed out and edible.

3)Are there any other "cool" things for the kids like the treasure chests and slippers? It will be 2 girls and one boy so I want them all to feel included.
There are little centerpieces that can be added to your ADR through dining. is a small canvas bag (probably around 4-6" wide by 10" tall) that has some crayons, paper Mouse ears, and small activity book in it.

4)Finally, this isn't cake, but related to b-day - is there anything else you can order for the table - centerpiece etc? Who do I call and how much?
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special event you can have it noted on your ADR. It is then up to to the discretion of the restaurant CMs as to if they sprinkle any extra Pixie Dust your way. I believe the Disney Florist can do things for your room but you'd have to go through dining to have things added for your meals.

We got this cake made by the GF bakery delivered to our ADR at Citrico's.

It was $160

Thank you for your help!! That cake is so cute! I may need to go with something smaller as my hubby would freak if he saw the 160.00 price tag!! LOL :rotfl:

Did it taste good? Both cakes that I've ordered from the GF bakery in the last three years have not tasted that great. the "buttercream" frosting is mostly a crisco/shortening based frosting :crazy2: and its not very sweet. IMHO, if a pastry chef/baker is using a recipe that is heavily made with crisco you NEED lots and lots of conft. sugar. I think they also put TOO much frosting in between the layers. if it tasted good that is one thing but in my experience it has not. I will post my pics of my cakes below.

I posted this in the Anniversary cake thread in 2007 but will do so here so you can see this beautiful cake! I wish it tasted as good as it looked but alas I digress...

Date: September 2007
Where: a late Supercalifragalistic Breakfast at the GF Cafe ( it was actually 1900 Park Fare, but at that time was moved to the GF cafe temporarily while they did some rehab to the actual 1900 Park Fare restaurant space).
What: Yellow cake with vanilla "buttercream" (really more like shortening and a dash of sugar), and chocolate ganache swirl on top.
Cost: $85.00

Everything was edible except the pearls.

And here is the cake we got for me for my birthday last December. I bascially told DH what I wanted and he called the GF Bakery. We didn't ask for Cindy but we did want the slipper on top. I wanted a mini 6" tier cake with the white chocolate castle on top but at the time they said they couldn't do a small castle on top of a 6" cake I'd have to get the larger white chocoalte castle for the 10" cake and that would be $200.00 :scared: and my dh said um no! So he said to put the pastel sprinkles on it and the slipper and this is what we got. A very beautiful looking cake./ I felt like a princess. :wizard:

Date: December 2008
Where: Cinderella's Royal Feast dinner 1900 Park Fare
What: vanilla cake with vanilla "buttercream" (again, really more like shortening and a dash of sugar)
Cost: $100.00-$125.00, somewhere in that range, can't recall

The truffle balls in the slipper were devine, the slipper was probably very good but it melted in the car on the way home! :sad2: The flowers were sugar and were exqusite, a work of art. (not the best pics but I had to use my parents camera, the batteries died in mine!)

I see that most cakes should be ordered 48 hours in advance.

I really need to order 2 cakes. One for my son-in-laws birthday while we are there (eating at Hollywood and Vine that night, Dec 13th) He will be 32 years old. Any suggestions?

The second cake is for our 28th Anniversary. We are eating at Tony's that night, Dec 15th. I am planning on getting my DW the mini wedding cake.

Should I wait till we are closer to our scheduled dates, or is ordering this early ok?

Thank you to everyone that has participated in this thread, just wanted you all to know that your efforts sure help!

I have to figure out how to post pics on here. Describing it does not do it justice.

If you go to a photo sharing site like Photobucket you can upload your pictures, resize, crop, etc. and then it will give you an IMG code that you simply copy and paste into your DIS post. HTH

Hi all
I have lurked here for a long time as we have been planning our trip for a long time hahahaha

We are going to WDW in 9 weeks time and while we are there it is my DD's 11th b'day .. There are 18 of us in total, we are going to T-Rex in DTD for her b'day dinner, total surprise for her, i have kind of gathered that i will have to go to the boardwalk bakery, pick up the cake to take there with us.

I have poked and prodded DD to try and find out in a secret way what cake she would like and she decided on Tinkerbell
So here come the questions
1) I have googled lots of Tinkerbell cakes and was wondering do you think i could e-mail them a pic of it??
2) She doesn't like buttercream icing at all, we don't tend to have that kind of icing on cakes here, we normally have fondant or royal icing type so what do i ask for??
3)Any idea on size of cake for 18 people to all have a slice??

Also i am intending on ordering the Slipper desert for her surprise b'day breakfast at 1900 Park Fare
1) How do i go about doing that??
2) Which one will i get, white choc or milk choc, or do i get a choice??

TIA :thumbsup2

I know this has been answered a million times I am sure...but I must ask because my eyes are killing me!

We will be staying at Port Orleans...how do I go about having a cake delivered there and will they deliver to the room and leave if we are not there or how do you set it all up?

And...the cakes that have the "banners" with the well wishes on it...what do you ask for...I like that better than written on the cake.

Is there any way to get the mini-wedding cake from the Boardwalk Bakery allergy-free? My guess is no since it is so small. But I can't see ordering a large cake for just my husband & myself.

I'm so torn on ordering something for us. I want to but then I keep thinking that I shouldn't.

By the way, I posted a couple of weeks ago about my son's birthday cake, which was Pluto.

We ate on that thing for a good week and, although I wasn't super impressed with the flavor at the time, probably because it was so cold, eating it out of the refrigerator or even letting it warm for a minute or so at room temperature was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. I think it was a bavarian cream instead of butter cream and I loved it!!!! There is one piece left that we froze so that DH could have some when he arrived this next week. I'm hoping he'll share. ;)

Just wanted to mention this because of what I wrote initially. I would have Brian make us a cake anytime and plan on getting him to do one for us next year for our 20th anniversary celebration.
