The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Dinner here is undecided at this point. Alan and I are going to dinner with a prospective client. Alan did a small bit of videography/editing for them, and now they want to hire him to edit a 2 hour documentary. This company is the largest publishing company in Utah, and they like to release documentaries in conjunction with large books. So, we're going to dinner to hammer out the details! I'm really hopeful that this works out, as they would be a great client to have permanently!

Ooooh, that'd be great! Good luck!!

Emily was hired for Billy Elliott but in Chicago. Rehearsals start in Jan. & opening night would be in April. There is a major hitch. Emily's Dad is now very angry & stomping around the house that it's not NYC. If he puts his foot down she won't be able to go & I have to say she has worked so hard & for so may years he will stop her dream. Breaking her spirit doesn't work for me but I need to keep my mouth shut & be on call for Chicago. Right now the entire thing is very bittersweet....

that makes me angry for her. You know, Chicago isn't THAT far from NYC. Esp for a girl that has worked so hard and is obviously incredibly talented.

On FB, are clicking on the "live feed" at the top? They changed it last week and you have to be on live feed to see all the updates like normal.

Maria - thanks for doing it again! I'm still at the same place and want to be included!

Today is yet another Wed, I will eat whatever I can find.

I sure hope he doesn't crush her dreams.

Sheryl - a belated :bday: to Alexis!

Lauri Is this a YES! I have a old computer box ;)
You have Aussie don't you? My Hershey is part Aussie he doesn't like it when I yell at the Tv either. I wonder if that is something with the breed?

I better go find something for dinner or Alex may be chewing on my arm.

Hmmm, I hate to think of the cost to mail a box of leaves, so I think I'll decline. ;)

We actually have two dogs. Smudge is my Aussie and could care less about TV unless we're watching Animal Planet. Fish is a mutt that we adopted from the SPCA. She's skittish, and doesn't like bad weather or lots of noise (ie, me screaming during football :rolleyes1) She also tends to hide when we have lots of people over, like our Friday night dinners. Although, she's getting better about that and will come check everyone out now and again.

I'd love to join the holiday card exchange :worship:

:santa: Holiday Notice:santa:Any new people or no so new peeps that moved, who want to join the Holiday card exchange. Pm me your name and address. I would love to do this again. I love this kind of mail.:woohoo:

Yea!! PM coming your way! Thanks!!

So, I've got to figure out what the babysitter can fix for the kids. Katie is going ice skating with the church youth group, so I've got to come up with something fast and easy. I'll let you know when I decide!

Good luck to Alan on this - sounds pretty neat!

Dinner is up in the air, I have to cook because we finished up all the leftovers :yay: Buddy needed to buy a sandwich yesterday and again today but he was not complaining. No whole grain bread and low fat meat if I am not in charge of his lunch :lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Facebook did some updates a few weeks ago and its a bit different. Like Aimee said, make sure you are clicking on the live feed at the top. That seems to give you the current stuff.

How exciting and frustrating at the same time. I hope her dad backs down and realizes just how important this is to Emily. Good luck to her.

Dinner tonight will be pork stew meat over rice. Veggies of some sort and I may pull some dinner rolls out of the freezer as well.

Good afternoon all, hope you are all well. I'm having a great day- I had my dentist appointment yesterday and they made it quick and I'm cavity free. This morning I started our woodstove by myself for the first time. We just had it installed last week, it's a fireplace insert. I love it, it's not really needed today but I want to learn how to use it before I need it. And best of all, I finally got the courage up to step on the scale and I was suprised to see I'm 15 pounds less than I thought I would be. I don't know if the day could get any better.

Gretchen- Enjoy your suprise dinner with your mom. I think you've earned a night off from cooking. Hope your feeling better every day.

Maria- Hope everything works out for Emily.

Glynis- I hope your able to enjoy your dinner, I think I'd be a little nervous. Good luck to Alan.

I'd love to participate in your Christmas card swap, but I think it would make my husband nervous. Please don't be offended. I don't want you to get the wrong idea about him, he's would just be concerned for my safety. He only uses a computer about five times a year, and that's just when he's stuck on a video game.

Dinner tonight is spaghetti and meatballs with a salad.

Robin Don't worry about it. It is the ole ax murder syndrome.;)

Gretchen WHAT no packages! :lmao: We never expect you to do that. Of course we love it, but don't expect it. :rolleyes1

Tonight is dinner at Sonic. One of Alex's classes is having a fundraiser there. I have to do my part, even if it means no cooking. Such a sacrafice:rotfl2:

Hi Ladies - I am so sorry I wasn't around yesterday but I was having computer problems here at work. My guy, worked all day and hopefully I am up and running again. Wow, you just don't know what you miss until you don't have it. I just walked around yesterday like a zombie. ALL of my work is on the computer. But today I am BACK!! :cool1:

I need to read back and catch up. Seems thats all I do anymore. But I will and I shall be back, but until then . . .

Yea!!! The sun is shining. Wow, it looks so good. It sure puts me in a whole different mood. I don't even care if if is cold out, when the sun is shining it just feels better.

Tonight is date night so off we go to our favorite place. Matthew is joining us, as he has decided to be in the Christmas Choir and the first practice is tonight. So that is a nice bonus - Dinner with my 2 best guys. Life is GOOD!!

I talk to you all soon.

Well that is not nice! I hope that he lets her do what she feels is best for her and does not let his ego get in the way. Years ago my niece graduated from BU. She is really a wonderful girl. Marisa had some clout in her company and with HR so she referred her into the marketing department, starting at $60,000 a year with incredible benefits. Her SF, the jerk, told her not to even go for the interview, the money was not enough! She is working for a Not for Profit and not making much money and as each year passes her degree is less impressive, she had a bachelors but now folks need a Master to be considered if you do not have experience. Donny tried to help her get into the marketing dept of his company but now she has lost a lot of her self-confidence. :sad2:

Lauri, I think it was the remaining congestion problem that caused the vertigo, but I'm feeling much better now, thanks to both of you for asking.

Count me in again please. However, I don't know if I'll have time to do packages this year. You all may have to make do with a card. Sorry. :guilty:

Tonight's dinner is a mystery. Mom said she was bringing dinner over tonight.

I am so glad that you are feeling better. Do not even think about packages this year, you have way too much to deal with! I am looking forward to teh cards!

have a nice dinner with your Mom. I miss mine when I am looking for comfort food, no one did it better than she did :goodvibes

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on scale victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No don't think you can offend us over this :rotfl: Shoot! If you could have heard Buddy for the first year of WFD! He still thought all of you were not real and that I needed medication!
Robin Don't worry about it. It is the ole ax murder syndrome.;)

That is what I was thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao:

Laura - I'm sad that Greg will not be able to get leave and join ya'll in Disney. I hope ya'll still have a great time.

Well, I talked to him yesterday, and finally was able to talk some sense into him. He is going to ask if he can leave early and join us. He is taking command right before Thanksgiving, so he was reluctant to skip out on the safety briefings and holiday ball, plus ask for a special exception to exceed his leave limit all at once. I convinced him he would regret it if he didn't at least ask. They could still say no, but at least he will know he tried! Please keep your fingers crossed the answer is yes!

Sheryl -- I'm glad you're starting to feel better. Happy belated birthday to Alexis! I hope she had a great day.

Stephanie -- I hope you were able to find a sitter. How are things going with Katelyn?

Maria -- I really hope Emily's dad comes around. I'm sure he is concerned about the distance, her being out of school and her having a normal kid life. If she was in NYC, he could probably manage all that better. I hope he finds a way to figure all that out while still letting her take advantage of the opportunity in Chicago.

Gretchen -- Please do not feel guilty about the packages! I can't believe you ever had time to do that. I'm usually lucky to get my cards out.

Janice -- Thank you for taking care of the card list again! I am interested in participating.

Robin -- I think it takes a while for the husbands to come around with this thread. I know Sheryl's Bob and Becky's John were a little nervous before we all met last year. Anyway, no offense taken! I hope your day has continued to be a good one.

ETA: I got interrupted, so I forgot/missed some things. Glynis-- Good luck tonight! Ellen -- Enjoy date night. Nancy -- Ha! Ha! Buddy cracks me up.

Today we have gymnastics, so it's breakfast food for the kids and leftover broccoli soup for me.

Afternoon Y'all,

Seems like afternoon is all I can manage. I'm feeling a little better but coughing more. I do think I was on a high from the steroid injections. Still taking it easy, but I might try cooking dinner. I'm bummed cause I had to cancel my hand therapy for this week & will have to reschedule my neuro appt tomorrow. Which will push the neck rehab back even further, into next year I'm sure & a whole new insurance deductible to meet.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Alexis! She had a great day yesterday, Angelina said the class yellled Happy Birthday & clapped when they walked in with cupcakes! She was upset last week about her breathing practice for her singing class, she was having trouble with it. Last night she tells me "Nana, Guess what? Today I blew in & out for 7, because now I'm 7!!"

Stephanie & Lauren, I did receive both of your checks! Thanks!

Maria, I really hope Emily's Dad thinks this through & doesn't trash her dream! Prayers for that! She must be one talented girl!!!

Believe it or not, I'm ready for our holiday card exchange!! I may not be able to include gifties like Gretchen, but I'm ready for cards!

Gretchen, I'm glad your dizziness is better? Do you feel like you are finally over the flu? How long did it take, over 2 weeks right?

Janice, Thanks for handling the mailing list! As you can guess, I wasn't able to mail your recipe book yet. I'm really sorry:guilty:, as soon as I'm not contagious I will do it!

Robin, Don't worry about the cards! We all understand the ax murderer syndrome!

Do y'all know Angelina is just horrified that I told you all that she said that!! Was totally horrified when she met Lori & Rick and Lori told her "See we're not ax murderers!"

Caili is having a tough time adjusting to the time change this weekend. She was so tired this afternoon. Both kids are already in bed. I really hope it is just that, and she isn't getting sick. There is a lot of flu in our area. Liam said there were 8 kids absent (out of 20) from the 5th grade class next to his today. :sad2:

I am too this time. I have woken up at 6:30, I usually wake up at 7:30 with the alarm, every day this week and am wide awake. Don't like this cutting in to my sleep thing! :rotfl:

Sheryl- feel better.

Count me in for the cards! I love getting them.

Dinner tonight will be salmon, rice and sauted veggies.

Robin Don't worry about it. It is the ole ax murder syndrome.;)

Gretchen WHAT no packages! :lmao: We never expect you to do that. Of course we love it, but don't expect it. :rolleyes1

Robin - looks like everyone beat me to the axe murderer thing, too funny. Of course we understand.

Gretchen - Please don't feel bad about not doing packages, good Lord woman you've got enough going on!

Don't push yourself! Glad to hear you're a bit better but you're far from well my friend.

That girl is too cute!:rotfl:

Hey y'all, I won't be around much the next few days. Have a lot going on at work and Kyle is coming in this weekend. Didn't want anyone to worry.:goodvibes

I came on to post my stuffed pork & pumpkin soup but I will let some more posts buffer me from Becky:rotfl:

I'm missing so much on FB, I think I've done something wrong that I don't get updates on status.

Emily was hired for Billy Elliott but in Chicago. bbl

HEY! post your pictures!!

With facebook, ever since the change I have found it easiest to toggle back and forth between live feed and status updates. I usually read the feed, but occasionally check the status because that posts the updates in order. I think...

I hope Emily is able to take the role.

Maria I hope Emily is able to accept the role. Of course I am very partial to Chicago.;)

Sheryl I totally understand. Whenever you are able to get to the post office is fine. I am not in a hurry. Next month even is ok. I want you well.

Tonight's dinner changed the fundraiser was rescheduled due to something I forgot. I really am too tired to go out tonight anyway. So I am making chicken enchilada's and rice.

Janice, thanks for being our Christmas ELF and doing the list.

Robin, the whole card topic thing has me laughing. DH also thought I was nuts in the beginning but he has been sucked right into the whole WFD friendship thing as well. He often refers to my friends by name when he talks to my DM and his kids. I totally understand remember I am the one who won't post picks of my kids, no matter how much it kills me not to.

Maria, fingers crossed that everything works out with Billy Elliot Chicago.

WFD- we started with baked stuffed crabs and then gourmet pizza from local market.

I'm not crazy about the new feed thing on FB either. It doesn't seem to update, then when it does, it doesn't appear to be in order. :confused3

That is great news she got hired! I hope something can be worked out so she can pursue it.

I hope Emily is able to take the role.

I will in the morning (maybe ;)).

Janice, you'll be tired of my face if Billy goes through!!!!
I have to tell you I feel better with you there:thumbsup2

Kat, enjoy Kyle:hug: How's the ankle?

Laura, hoping everything works out for Greg (& you of course).

I have mine on Status Updates and occasionally check the Live Feeds and it is mainly because I end up having a whole page of game updates on the Live Feeds. And it is mainly my Aunt and Cousin with the games.:headache: I was missing a lot of stuff because of it.

Dinner plans have changed. Trying to get some paperwork finished here at work then I have to go to the grocery store so I will probably get something on the way home.
