The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

:lmao::lmao: Buddy calls me a city girl too :lmao: He is all country boy and totally jealous of your farm. I tell him about your animals and he is always asking me how do they do this? How do they do that? His latest question is to fund out your feeding techniques. How much grain to grazing time to silage.............it goes on and on :dance3: His Mom and Dad had a dairy farm in a neighboring town adn when he was a teen they sold it to a developer. Now this was before land had any value so they got not much and there is now a huge apartment complex there. His childhood home is still there though and he drives by it several times a day in his travels. It makes him a little sad.

I got the skillet and I thought it was a huge plate of yucky dry flavorless stuff.

Well you can tell Buddy that at the moment we are waiting for the farmers to get out of the corn fields so we can run them on the corn stalks. The farmers love it for the free fertilizer and we love it because it really helps with the feed bill. We have land to the North of us with grass and we grain and hay them twice a day. If Doug is late - and believe me they know - you should here the beloring going on. I can hear it in the house. :rotfl2: We don't finish our cows, we take them to the feed lots for that. We butcher our steers. Right now we are getting ready to "rent" our bull or buy one. Our heffers will then be put to pasture till spring. We take them into the hills for the winter. Tell Buddy he can ask questions anytime he wants. I might not alway know the answer but Doug will. ;)

Hi everyone. I'm still feeling cruddy, but the doctor said that was normal. He also said it was time to get serious and back on the diet. From the time of Daddy's diagnosis to his death I gained 38 pounds! :scared1: So I guess I'm headed back to the gym next week when I can actually breathe and see if I can't get this weight off.

I have no idea what we are having for dinner tonight. I have some paperwork that I have to get done.

Okay Ladies, once again I’m hopelessly behind. I’m afraid its gonna stay that way for a few weeks; busy, busy at work, and since my daughter’s laptop crashed, I can’t always get on the computer in the evenings as she has schoolwork

Laura - beautiful costume. I’ll bet Caili looks like an angel on ice when she skates.

Ann, I hope everything works out Sunday for the christening. A very belated happy birthday to Luke.

Nancy, I hope that the insurance can work things out and you all don’t have to pay for that test.

Gretchen - I’m sorry you are still not feeling well. I hear ya on the weight; I’m a stress eater and losing it is so difficult. Is Hailey feeling better?

Lauren - glad to hear Riley will be okay and that you are a go for your trip. I think you guys need some fun time. My Aussie, Smudge, has an eye condition that requires two different ointments applied nightly. This is a forever thing and we’ve been doing it for four years now. She doesn’t like it, but tolerates it pretty well. She does take her time when I call her for it, its kinda funny the way she meanders around the house before getting to me. Kinda like the kids in the Family Circus cartoons.

Ellen - I’m starting on Jay’s box and hope to get it mailed next weekend. I’ll let you know when its sent. I know you said it was too hot for chocolate, but what about chocolate chip cookies, or similar items?

Dinner for Tuesday was meatloaf and mac n cheese; last night was baked ziti. Tonight is italian sausage po-boys.

Going to be another busy few days. I have football games today and tomorrow and Halloween Saturday. I have to start getting decorations up today, I have an arch and a fence. The rest of the stuff I will get ready so on Saturday all I have to do is arrange it in the yard.

Tonight for dinner I will be having the pancakes I didn't get last week and some sausage.

Hey y'all,

Here's last night's dinner. See.. healthy! Wonder how long that will last? Sadly I overcooked the tuna, although it was more to Bob's liking. Leftovers tonight.

So WCC isn't great, Chef Mickey's is bad. Any other kid-happy suggestions? I was trying to make meals fun for A, but y'all know I'm not big on noise, so if we do these it will be a sacrifice for Bob & I.

So far I've booked & changed several times. Right now I have dinner at Tony's, WCC dinner, The Wave lunch, Cali Grill dinner, Ohana breakfast, Tutto Italia dinner, Chef Mickey's Breakfast, Le Cellier dinner.

Maria, Did you have the skillet dinner at WCC or off the menu? Is everything over salted? I can handle blah but I hate when I leave a rest. & have to suck down gallons of water!

Becky, Your pierogies look better than any I've seen! Yum! We like Artist Point too, I was just trying to do kid stuff, which I know we'll probably be yuck & disappointing.

Robin, Thanks for the spoon bread recipe! That sounds delicious!

Lauren, Why didn't I realize you were going right back to WDW!!! :upsidedow I had it in my head you were heading elsewhere. :confused3

Gretchen, I'm sorry you're still feeling bad!:hug: I gained a lot of weight during & after my Dad's illness, then more when Bob's Dad got sick the next year. I kept it on for years! So it's good that you start working on your health sooner rather than later!

The jellyfish costume came out awsome. I think it's my favorite costume she's ever had.

I would love to see it! If you have any questions about posting photos, I would be happy to try to help.

Nola loves the "girls" (chickens) and goes crazy when she is near the rest of the menagerie so I told him I would bet the house on how this plays out after she names them all :lmao:

Well let's just say that the cows went to the sale and we bought our meat that year. But now I am not allowed out in the pens with the calfs.
 I hope you get some nice weather soon. I haven't even begun the box for Jay yet, but I have not forgotten. Greg has been asking for cookies too, so I will send both out at the same time.

working on my business venture today.

Good luck! Have you told us what you are working on or is it too soon?

Speaking of business ventures, Sheryl, how are things going for Angelina?

Gretchen -- I'm sorry you're still not feeling well. I hope you get better soon. You should probably hold off on getting back to the gym until you feel 100%. The flu has a nasty way of coming back if you don't listen to your body's demand to rest.

I know you said it was too hot for chocolate, but what about chocolate chip cookies, or similar items?

I never sent chocolate chip cookies to Greg, but I did send M+M cookies and chocolate flavored baked goods like chocolate cookies or brownies. I think regular chocolate chip cookies would end up being a mess in the heat.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful compliments about Caili's dress. I figure she works so hard, the least I can do is make her look good. She really appreciates it too. Every time I make her a new costume, she hugs the costume, hugs me, says thank you and love you a million times. It's worth it. I really do enjoy doing it too, so maybe one of these days I'll start a business. Becky and I always talk about that.

Becky's sausage picture made me hungry this morning, so I went to the sausage shop and picked up some fresh kielbasa and sauerkraut. I'll have that with pierogies and applesauce. Neither of the kids eats kielbasa, so I have bratwurst for Caili and sweet Italian sausage for Liam. They don't eat pierogies either, so I'll have to make some noodles. We can all agree on my mom's applesauce. :thumbsup2

Gretchen - I’m sorry you are still not feeling well. I hear ya on the weight; I’m a stress eater and losing it is so difficult. Is Hailey feeling better?

Thanks for asking Lauri (and Laura earlier - I missed it). She is better but like me still isn't 100%. Luckily for her we caught hers early and started the tamiflu right away so she didn't get quite as sick as I did - or at least her fever never went to what mine was.

We'll see how it goes. Deciding to lose it and actually doing it are two different things. I guess I'm fortunate that I don't feel much in the holiday spirit this year. Maybe that will keep me from too much holiday eating.

I'm planning on waiting on the gym. When I went to the doctor yesterday he said I needed to wait a full two weeks before heading back and then I'm supposed to not go full at it. He said that now that I am getting older :headache: it takes longer to recuperate.

Laura, I forgot to say how pretty the dress & the bird costume are! You are something else! :goodvibes She's a really cute bird!

Laura I do have good news Angelina got the SBA loan approval yesterday! It's been over a month of waiting on that, now a little more waiting on the banks & lawyers. But it's all good! She's a much happier girl now that the approval came through. :goodvibes

Maria, I'm nosy, what business venture?

Gretchen, I don't think I would like your dr very much. To bring up weight & age in the same visit!:mad: I have to say he's a brave man. ;)

Ouch :headache: Hope that didn't bring your day down too much

Have you tried 1900 Park Fare? I really love their breakfast but have heard good things about dinner. The character interaction is supposed to be very good. It's a buffet, but I always enjoyed my food there. TONS better than Chef Mickeys IMO (which I think is gross). Breakfast is Mary Poppins, Alice and Mad Hatter (funny!!), and 2 Pooh characters (sometimes Pooh and Eeyore, sometimes Pooh and Tigger). Dinner is Cindy, Prince, and Stepsisters.

We ARE cooking dinner tonight - having shrimp curry. I can't eat out so much!

Aimee, I was just coming back here to ask everyong about Park Fare! I've also heard that the Dinner is fun, but I don't have room for another dinner, I might switch Mickey's to Park Fare. I just know Alexis we'll be in the Contemporary pass Chef Mickey's & she'll beg to go there. Ugh!

Mmmm, curry sounds yummy to me right now!

Sheryl, what about Crystal Palace? I have not eaten there but I am pretty sure that Laura and Greg liked it. They have the Pooh characters. Or Sci-fi Dine In? The food's not great, but she might like sitting in the cars (as long as the clips of the sci-fi films won't scare her). One final thought: Boma? They have a kids buffet with all the usual stuff in addition to the more "exotic" stuff on the adult line. After dinner you can go out onto the animal observation platform. Sometimes there are cast members there with night vision goggles that they'll let you use. I know Liam and Caili really enjoyed doing this last year after our dinner at Jiko.

Gretchen, do take it easy! The gym will be there after you are completely recuperated.

Becky, It has been years since we've eaten in Crystal Palace! That might be fun. I've heard Boma's food is really good too! Yeah I think I'm going to nix Mickey's for something else.

Laura, Your opinion on Crystal Palace?

Kathy, I remember you had a rotating trip banner, that was MickeyPath right?

I can't get that to work! Can you help me?

Sheryl - I couldn't do Mickeypath either, Julie on the NOLA thread did mine last time.....notice I have a new ticker??????

THANK YOU JANICE !!!!!!!!!! We're booked at SSR and waitlisted at BCV & BWV!!!!

Haven't caught up with everyone yet, been busy planning!:cool1:

Sheryl, what about Cape May Cafe? We were really happy last time we went.
Last time we were there it was Minnie, Mickey & Goofy in bathing suits.
Crystal Plaza I have only had lunch there......Really good salmon & black bean salad, the characters we Winnie & friends.
:cool1::cool1:for Angelina!!!!!!!!!!!!

The business is something I used to do on the side....Reclaimed furniture themed & decoupaged. I've done a few kitchen chair & stool sets & now I'm doing 2 ice cream chairs for my nieces for Christmas...they will use them as desk chairs. The older niece is distressed cream with famous sentences from great authors (she is in school for her masters in teaching).
Emily's is dance themed.....with lots of floral. Last week I had 2 orders one for a travel themed coffee table so I'm using antique postage stamps from around the word & antique postcards. The other is a nightstand with butterflies.....sage is the backdrop color.

Gretchen, please go very slow. No relapses allowed.

Lauren, if you need a computer pro Greg is happy to help.

Lori, sorry about the computer~

Lauri, I'm a giant stress eater. I can be on good behavior all day & then in the evening I just blow it.

Ellen, I could never go near a calf...the water works would start.

Dinner is left overs.....

HEY look at you girls going for Mardi Gras...hmmmmmmmmm

Maria, You'll have to post some pics, those all sound so pretty!

Kat, Woohoo! PM with your dates! Is Kyle going with y'all?

Sheryl- I really like Boma but we haven't gone the past couple of times so my daughter was probably 5 or 6 when we went and enjoyed it. She loved all the different soups. They also have a big dessert bar and we told her she could eat that for dinner so we could enjoy our meal and not feel rushed. We are done (hopefully) with character meals, but I would still consider going back to Crystal Palace. I have also told the kiddo since it's Mardi Gras and Presidents week at the same time, it will be to busy to wait in line to see characters.

Maria- Glad to hear you like Cape May, my parents want to take us there for our birthday/anniversary present but have never been.

Kathy- Welcome to the planning fun!

Gretchen- Glad to hear your on the mend. I gained 30 pounds last winter, and I didn't have a reason, it's amazing you can gain it so quick but it takes forever to come off. I was always a skinny kid, I don't know what happened.

Leftovers for dinner, rissotto, shrimp scampi, bread and butter...(maybe that's why I have a little extra weight to carry around!) I better sneak a veggie in.

Robin – Would you mind sharing your scampi recipe?:flower3:

Glynis – Sounds like y’all had a great night last night!

Lauren – Are the boys excited about the trip?

Ellen – You need to plan a trip down here for some of our yummy seafood! Loved your story about the calfs!!!

Gretchen – You’ve fussed at me before now it’s my turn – Wait until you are fully recovered before starting back at the gym!!!!

Maria – Come and join us!!!!

Kyle won't be joining us, another adult trip. We're thinking of Citricos, BlueZoo, Fulton's & Kouzzina.

Errands are run, baby has napped and now I'm getting ready to start dinner.

I finally decided on sweet and sour meatloaf. Alan loves it, and he works so hard so that I can stay home with the kids, so I like to indulge him when I can. Besides, ground beef was on sale today, so it seemed like it was meant to be. We'll also have a side dish of rice and broccoli in a cheese sauce. I'm not making desserts the rest of this week, as the kids got enough candy last night, and will receive more in the next 2 days.

I'm so jealous of your Mardi Gras trips! I so wish that I could plan a trip soon, but finances just keep us from indulging ourselves. Hopefully, things will smooth out soon, and we can plan something.

Alan and I did decide to do the WDW half marathon in January of 2011, so I've got that on the distant horizon! My niece is going with us, and we are trying to talk my dad into going, too. I know that he would adore EPCOT, and it would be fun to be able to take him since he takes us all to DL. We've got some time to save up for it, so keep your fingers crossed!

A quick fly-by. Tonight is going to be a very soggy library night.

Dinner was Micky D's drive thru ;) I inhaled mine I have no idea what is was :confused3

We are expecting tons of water and thunder storms later. Sounds like fun doesn't it. At least it is not snow.:worship:

Kathy So glad we could get you out of the craziness done there. Like I said I used to work for Pan American Life many moons ago Ok maybe 2 moons ago. They used to lock up the building with just a few programers and head for higher ground. :rotfl:

Laura That costume is gorgeous. You do wonderful work.

Ok I have to get a move on and get my stuff together.

I just know Alexis we'll be in the Contemporary pass Chef Mickey's & she'll beg to go there. Ugh!

Just tell her you have something much better in store. ;)

I've heard Boma's food is really good too! Yeah I think I'm going to nix Mickey's for something else.

It is REALLY good! :cloud9:

Got home early, the game got postponed until tomorrow, the field was too wet from the rain earlier this week.

Had my Trader Joe's Pumpkin Pancakes for dinner, soooooo yummy! I'll have to pick up a couple extra boxes and hoard them in the freezer.
