The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Glynis, stew was very good. DH was not thrilled with supper when he heard what I planned but he went back for seconds so it couldn't have been to bad!;) Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Glad you all enjoyed it! How did the meatballs turn out?

Kathy,I really hope you start feeling better soon!

Nancy, Bob's doing okay. He couldn't leave work, he had meetings scheduled all day. Perhaps that was for the best, because he just about lost it, when I told him residents kept coming in, poking & prodding Alexis. He said next time I am to tell them to go get the REAL DR! Honestly if they would have identified themselves as residents I would have put a stop to it. But they'd just come in & identify themselves as dr so & so.

I'm heading over there now. Had to get clothes together for them. Lastest update, is they have ruled out all flu viruses. They are very concerned her white blood cell count is very high. They now believe she probably has a antibiotic resistant intestinal bacteria. They are waiting on lab work to confirm that, but are treating her for that. IV antibiotic & lactobacillus. Looks like she may be in for a while. :sad1: Gotta run. :grouphug:

Poor baby! This is just awful!!! I wish that there was something I could do to help. Does she have a DVD player in her room. I know that when Jacob was in the hospital, it helped take his mind off things when I brought in movies that were just for him.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do. I know that I'm far away, and I am praying for her, but if there's something you need picked up and mailed, I can do that for you.

Crazy day has started here. I've got all the stuff done for Scouts this afternoon, so I feel ok there. I've been to the store, and now I'm folding laundry. Timothy will go down for a nap in about a half an hour, so I will be able to get some more stuff done.

I'm excited about the book fair this afternoon! I'm hopeful that I will be able to find Christmas presents for the kids. Keeping my fingers crossed about that!

Dinner tonight will be Lauren's Swiss chicken. Yumm!!!!

Sheryl - Prayers for Alexis and for the rest of you. I can't tell you how sorry I am that child is going through all of this.

Lauri - My hair is dark brown, but I'm ignoring my grey hairs too. I went for a cut yesterday and my stylist said I was still ok by the 3 foot rule - if you can't see them from three feet away they don't exist.

Aimee - We have used Magical Express. It worked ok for the ride from the airport, but we haven't had great luck with our luggage. I think most people do fine getting their luggage, but I think my family is jinxed because we have had delayed luggage each time we used ME. From now on, if we use ME, I intend to get my bags and put them on the bus with me.

Kat - I hope those steroids start to work soon for you sweetie. But they can't work if you don't do your part. Ehem, NO EXERCISING!!!!! And no walking more than is necessary. Really necessary, not the sort of necessary that we all use to justify doing more than we should. Lecture over. ;)

Robin - I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. Please don't feel like you can't discuss your own pain because of my loss. We're here for each other.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words on my parenting skills, but I promise you I'm just a regular mom. I just deal with different issues than most of you. Not necessarily harder, just different. As Kenny will gladly tell you, Hailey is still the easiest child we have.

Sheryl, all I can say is that poor baby:sad1:
I hope they have a concrete answer by this afternoon. Prayers & love to all of you.
I was asking my Mom about Alexis last night & she said c-dif or MRSA......as long as you get to the bottom of it.

I'm in the attic today doing some major cleaning & purging.
I've arranged for a pick up from the Vets already so that makes me stick to a schedule.

Dinner tonight is chicken sausage & ?

Have any of y'all used Magical Express?

Yes and it is really easy. And you usually get to watch a video too! We've never had a problem with the luggage, but if you are worried about it you can go get it and take it to the bus with you, just make sure you do not put the ME tags on them.

Forgot dinner. I am going to make a lemon, pepper shrimp. I got this little cookbook that has a recipe in it I am going to tweek a little.

Good morning everyone

My heart is just breaking for Alexis. That poor girls has sure had it lately. I pray that she starts feeling better.

Nancy ~ How is buddy feeling today? I have a bad back so I can sympathize.

Kat ~ off the ankle!! Hear me?

The sun is shining today. YEA!!! It is still really cold but at least it feels warmer.

WFDT ~ Tacos, home made Guac and fresh peach cobbler.

Make it a great day my friends.

Glad you all enjoyed it! How did the meatballs turn out?

Meatballs were a good addition but I think Italian sausage would add a real nice flavor to it.

Have fun at the book fair.

I am so jealous of you cleaning and purging. I still have so much junk in boxes never unpacked, not to mention the stuff still living in my old room at my parents. I hope they don't start charging me rent. :lmao:

Do i see a new Christmas ticker my friend?? I am so envious of your travels, enjoy.

9 days till F&W for you and I noticed Gretchen's 11 days !:cool1:

Forgot dinner. I am going to make a lemon, pepper shrimp. I got this little cookbook that has a recipe in it I am going to tweek a little.

I love lemon pepper...shrimp sounds great!! I love it on fresh garden tomatoes and roasted chicken.

Peach cobbler and homemade guac...you go girl! I soooooooo love peach cobbler!

I found a pair of Luke's old infant denim overalls. I put them on Emma today with a pink turtleneck of course. She looks so darn cute. It is amazing how much she looks just like him as a baby. My little Chubba Bubba is in 6 month clothes.

Dinner last night was a repeat--the gratineed egg dish, plus an arugula salad and some toast.

Becky- I love eggs for dinner and your photos make them look even better to me!

I'm with Bob, tell them you want the Big Dogs for her. Continuing to think and pray for Alexis:sick:

Nancy, put me on that list right under Aimee. We get so much road dirt from the interstate. I just hate it. Nancy you are every husbands dream wife!!!!

My DH may disagree ;) Actually last year I ran into one of his coworkers and his wife at the grocery. OMG! She looked fabulous! I think her hair must have cost $200, it was that good! Anyway I told Buddy that she looked great and he did not say anything. That night he came in and he must have been thinking about it all day, he was irritated, because he said that was all she had to do was to look good :lmao:"And you look really good considering you have Kady and Nola and the house and ........"I know that under all of that bluster there was a compliment :rotfl2:

I

Have any of y'all used Magical Express?

Aimee can you post that recipe?

I have always used ME and never had an issue. The first year the bags were late but that was because they never made it to our plane, not because they were picked up late. AS Marilyn said, there is a video on the bus and for us it is the beginning of our Disney vacation:goodvibes

Nancy- That's always our plan in the spring, get all the yard work done early so in the summer after work we can just relax. I like to do it in the fall too, there are to many holidays coming up to spend them cleaning,

I always make the plan but I do not always follow through. This year I am trying to be more disciplined.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words on my parenting skills, but I promise you I'm just a regular mom. I just deal with different issues than most of you. Not necessarily harder, just different. As Kenny will gladly tell you, Hailey is still the easiest child we have.

That is what makes you an awesome Mom! You deal with the issues your kids have. They all have them, goodness knows I have shared some of the trials my kids put us through :dance3: . I think that parenting in general is hard if you do it right. Buddy was laughing the other day because he was telling a Donny story :lmao:. I figure as long as we are laughing it is okay :thumbsup2 I knew too many of their friends whose parents just did not show up. They were there but they were never engaged :sad2:

I was asking my Mom about Alexis last night & she said c-dif or MRSA......as long as you get to the bottom of it.

Gail told me that kids get c-dif after a trauma of some kid to their system. That is what she said Nola had when she was so sick a while back. Poor Alexis little body was working way too hard after the surgery.

You go Maria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Nancy ~ How is buddy feeling today? I have a bad back so I can sympathize.

He has not said anything so I think it must not be too bad. He was more worried about me armed the pressure washer to think about much else :lmao: I am going to whine about my back when he gets home! I am way too old!
I hope a shower makes this old gal feel better because if it does not he is getting a sandwich!

Nancy, Ron came home for lunch today. I mentioned about washing some of the second story windows. He said, Ann the house needs a good power washing. I laughed and he asked why. I told him what you were doing and that I just finished saying you were every man's dream wife. He smiled and agreed. Maybe it was the outfit I had on when we were talking. I am a sight for sore eyes and I don't look like a woman with a $200 hair job either!:rotfl: Fortunately, they love us just as we are!

Needless to say I’m frustrated. It’s not like I can just not go to work and while I do have a “desk” job I realized today that I’m actually on my feet more than I thought and I had to work late today so there has been no elevating or icing and it’s already 2PM. Rant over…..

Sheryl – Prayers continue for all of you, especially Alexis.

Kathy, your job is definitely not one that you can stay off your feet. Between running to the teller line, greeting people, or running to the vault. I was constantly on the go when I was in a branch. Just please take it as slow as you can, elevate your foot on a desk draw when noone is looking and wear comfy shoes. Hugs lady!

OMG Sheryl.....I saw your post so read back to see what had happened to your bairn !!

Im so sorry your wee scone is so poorly,I cant imagime what youse guys are going through.

Please know there is lots n lots of love flying its way ower the water to you and yours.

Kathy - Please, please be careful.I know its hard but rest up when ever you can and get right as rain for your trip.

I feel bad writing this now after Sheryl and Kats posts but I got the all clear to fly today.

The Dentist could not be sure I wont be hurtin through the flight but I kinda got the impression she just knew no matter what she said I was headin ower the water...I think my " death stare " swung it for me !! :rotfl:

I was sooo organised but being sick has thrown me back a wee bit.

I sat up till all hours checkin the net ( and chatting to Becky ) for camera reviews.
I think I got a good one at a good price but who knows !! :confused3

I have Q's for the F & W lassies so I will BBL...xx

Oh my good life,I nearly forgot, Glynis..Im so happy youse got good news for your Dad.:yay:

What happened to Charlene???????

Just wanted to say I was thinking of her and missing her around here. I know she is going on the F&W trip, so some of you girls need to get her back on over here whenever she has time.

That recipe sounded good before, I bet adding italian sausage would really be tasty!

I have to REALLY be in a mood to do that kind of cleaning. I have enough trouble keeping up with the daily stuff, ya know, like cooking and laundry:rotfl:

Kathy - hang in there!

dinner tonight will be either pulled pork tacos or enchiladas and black beans.

Forgot to thank all you fine lassies for your love and concern over the last week.

Quick Question - How is it possible to love folks you have never met and who live thousands of mile away ?

Very Quick Answer- Because these folks are very special and full of love and support they are quick to share.

Oh by the ways...I was talking about youse...just incase...I...but...hey...yeh...I guess youse got that..right ?

Robin - I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. Please don't feel like you can't discuss your own pain because of my loss. We're here for each other.

Robin, I missed this. I read back and I cannot find your post, I am so sorry :hug:

I made dinner. Fried pepper and onions and kielbasa in a teryaki glaze and fried potatoes and garlic and onions. I'll fix a veggie later.

I have got to get back to healthy eating. I have been craving all kinds of "homey" foods and giving in to those cravings.

Great news! Will it be painful?

What happened to Charlene???????

I'm not really sure, I've pm'd her. She probably has a lot going on. Can't wait to meet her!
