The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Glynis, that is the best news I have heard in a long time. Continued prayers with you all.

Gretchen, how is sweet Hailey coping? That is one thing I do not look forward to dealing with in the future.

Kathy, get that ankle ready for WDW. Enjoy the fest and your boy this weekend.

Maria, I love that Greg treats you like a queen.

-----

We have been hearing Coyotes around lately at night. There is a new plaza under construction in the area and I think the contruction has driven them our way. The howling scared the crap out of me the other night. It sounded right in my backyard. Something truly out of a horror movie. I am being so cautious now with the kids and the dog in the yard.

Well, I need to get off now and do some very neglect cleaning. BBL

This online dining thing sure is addicting :rolleyes1

It sure is! I am in charge of booking our ADRs, and we are gaining more and more by the day. It's better to have too many, than not enough, right?

I am supposed to go to a walk a thon this Sunday.

You are doing a lot right now. If you aren't feeling up to it, please don't push yourself!

Ann -- Luke is such a cutie! I can't believe he didn't even cry.

this weekend is the big fundraising weekend for Emma's school.

Have fun, and I hope the fundraiser goes well! We have ours coming up in two weeks.

Sheryl -- That festival sounds fabulous! I hope the rain cooperates and you have a great time.

Kathy -- You too! Enjoy the weekend with Kyle.

I think Liam was looking for a day off from school last night. I do think he had a headache, but when I worried that he might be getting strep, he played that up a bit. This morning he said he still had a headache and a sore throat, but he didn't have a fever and his throat looked fine to me, so I sent him off to school. He wasn't happy. The school hasn't called, so I guess he improved somewhere between here and the bus stop.

I am taking Caili to skating this afternoon, so I put some cornish hens in my crockpot that will be ready when we get back. We'll see how that turns out.

Becky - Sure hope you're not getting sick!

Sheryl - I pm'd you!

Ann - coyotes.....:scared1: please be careful!

Good morning everyone.

Laura- It's not just Liam, my daughter was so excited she had a math test yesterday. I guess I'll just enjoy it while it lasts. I don't know if they really had tests last year, so I'm assuming she's feeling pretty grown up and pleased with herself. Her mcas scores came home last week, I had forgotten all about them, and she told me she had been waiting for them since June. She did only get one wrong so she's extra happy. Glad Liam got better so quickly, amazing how fast they mend.

Ann- I love listening to the coyotes, I guess I'm just used to them. Late one afternoon I was watering some trees we had just planted and one walked by me, didn't care for that much. We both opted to go seperate directions.

Becky- Your dinner last night is one of my favorite meals. My husband doesn't like fish, so when he used to go to Nantucket to work for the week, that would be our dinner. At least my daughter likes fish.

Sheryl and Kathy- I hope the weather cooperates, it sounds like a lot of tasty fun.

I hope everyone has fun getting all primped for their trips. I'm about ready to cut all my hair off, I'm sick of it but I'm trying to grow it out to donate it. Lauren- I'm glad you enjoyed getting your eyebrows done. I'm not sure if awsome would be the word I'd choose though.

Last night's garlic chicken was a little disapointing. It wasn't bad, but wasn't good either. It sure smelled good though, maybe I cooked it to long.

I forgot to get something for dinner tonight while I was at the store so I better go figure that out.

WooHoo, can you believe it - here I am before noon. :cool1:

Ellen, I'm going to start my care package tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder about the chocolate......that would have been one of the first things I would have put in;)
Is it ok if I give Jay's name to Greg's Legion? They send cards for Christmas.

Of course that would be great. Thanks so much.

My ankle isn't that bad!!!!! It's hard to explain, it's not the entire ankle, it's a tiny spot on the side next to the achilles(sp?). It's not even that painful, I've been able to go to the gym a few days this week. I am definitely going to the Dr. tomorrow because I need to be 100% in two weeks.:goodvibes

Do you want me to start fussing at you?? Please take care and let us know what the doctor says. You need to be in perfect condition for WDW and our WFDT ladies. I am so jealous. I WANNA go! :sad2:

Ellen, Alexis is very excited about our care package "project". She wants to decorate the box & write Jay a letter! :rolleyes1 I asked her if she had any ideas about what we should send. She said " Are there kids fighting in the war? I have lots of ideas for kids, but not so much for a grownup man!" :cutie:

What a cutie!! Bless her heart. Jay has said there are children around the base. I sent a football over and they have played catch. Jay so missed Ethan that a package coming form a child will totally make his day. Thanks so much

Ellen, I would love to send Jay a package too! Do you have any pics of your horses? I love horses. Took riding lessons when I was younger (I took the last lesson in FL when I was on the College Program) and my niece is studying to be an equine vet.

Lauren you are so busy sweetie, but I will PM Jay's address to you. If you can fine but if you can't please don't feel you have to. You have your hands so full.
We raise Aribians. I have no idea how to post pictures but if I did I would. They are beautiful animals.

Robin ~ What a wonderful thing to do with your hair. You totally rock :thumbsup2

Laura ~ I am so glad Caili is feeling better but I sure hope Liam isn't. Thanks for the suggestions. What I have done is put all lotions, sanitizer and etc. in plastic bags. So far Jay hasn't said anything but I will have to ask. Thanks so much. Is there anything that we could send to Greg? If so PM me please.

Aimee ~ please feel better. I so hoped the RX would help.

Stephanie ~ enjoy the school festival tonight. Good luck on the art - I hope you get it.

Ann ~ that Luke is a dolly. How cute.

Gretchen ~ How is Hailey this morning. My heart just breaks for you all.

The temps dipped into the 20's here over night so it is a bit chilly this morning. Elizabeth is at a 4 day Scrap booking conference so we have Ethan for the weekend. YEA!! But let me tell you getting a little one ready for school is quite a task. I didn't work when my kiddos were little. So getting him and ME ready was quite a feat. But I am glad to say we both were on time.

We (Stephanie, Ethan and me) are going to a parade in Grand Island tomorrow. There should be 100+ schools/bands and lots of floats and hopefully LOTS of candy. Should be a good time. Cold but fun!!

WFDT ~ Pigs in a blanket and Homemade Mac & Cheese. Ethan's choice!

Make it a great day my friends. I'll try to check in later. ;)

Ann, Luke is so darn cute!!!!

Kat, that's a weird ankle thing. I hope they figure out what it is & it's an easy "repair". Did I miss when you were going to the doctor?

Sheryl, hope the weather clears out so you can enjoy your weekend.

Ellen, I would love to see your horses. Arabian's are just beautiful......
Homemade mac & cheese is what I've been craving but if I eat one more carb I will have no pants that fit:scared1:

Nan, sending your & Marissa a R.I. link......How's Buddy? How are you holding up?

Gretchen, how's Hailey?

Steph, hope you get the artwork you want!!!!

As far as Brenda's gift.....do the Nola girls want to buy the stoppers & NJ will send some wine over for the rest of Brenda's vacation?
Did anyone like any of the basket photos I posted? Just want o make it easy on everyone.....

Marilyn, your Mexican dish sounds really good!

It was. I just mixed the rice and chicken together with the salsa, heated it in the microwave long enough to take the chill off. Then I rolled it up in the tortilla with cheese and put it back in the mic until the cheese was melty.

This thread reminds me that I need to get my eyebrows waxed. :rotfl:

Me too! I am going to a football game tomorrow, my godson is playing against my old HS's team in their homecoming. :rolleyes1

Not sure what dinner tonight will be, taking my friend shopping.

I have a sprained ankle which I obviously irritated by not resting it. I'm starting on an anti-inflammatory and should stay off of it for the weekend. How am I going to do that and go to the festival tomorrow?

Wow! Sounds like everybody is getting all dolled up for the trip!

Kathy - Sorry about the sprain. Bring a chair and have the food brought to you?? Enjoy Kyle's visit!

Laura - oh no! Poor Liam. I hope it's not strep and that he makes it thru school.

Quick checkin here, I've had a headache coming on all day & now it's getting bad. I did a quick read-thru.

I hope you are feeling better today. I think this afternoon and tomorrow are supposed to be okay; Sunday, I think the rain returns.

Good Morning!

Lauri, are those your furbabies in your avatar? They are so cute!

Yes they are. Rulers of the roost would be a better term:rotfl:. Good luck with house cleaning!!

Luke made out great at the Dr. He was so cute. Dr came in and they exchanged HI-5s. The Dr was about to give him the shot, Luke turned his head and studied what was about to happen. He then turns to me and calmly says, "Ouchies Mommy!" That was it not one tear. I was in total shock. The Dr smiled gave him another HI-5 and we were on our way.
So in the car he proceed to tell me, "he likes that Dr, and maybe someday when he grows up he wants to be a Dr. and take care of Emma." So cute, I was so proud of my boy. He is 2 goin gon 20. Hard to believe he will be three this month.

Off to get more coffee so I can read ...BBL

too too cute! I love what kids come up with! Good grief, coyotes! Be careful out there!

Well, this weekend is the big fundraising weekend for Emma's school. They have the school carnival tomorrow during the day, and then at night is the silent/live auction dinner and dance thing. They have some great art projects that the kids have done on the auction block. I really want the christmas one that Emma's class did, but we'll see how much it really goes for. Some of these families at her school have just too much money!

Sounds like a fun weekend. We did a lot of these types of fundraisers in both of my kids' schools. And I agree that some of the families just had too much money!

Last night's garlic chicken was a little disapointing. It wasn't bad, but wasn't good either. It sure smelled good though, maybe I cooked it to long.

I forgot to get something for dinner tonight while I was at the store so I better go figure that out.

Robin -don't you get so disappointed when something smells so good, then just doesn't taste that way:headache: That's great that you want to donate your hair. My daughter did that some years ago, and in our local section of the paper, each week has pictures of kids that do it!

We raise Aribians. I have no idea how to post pictures but if I did I would. They are beautiful animals.

The temps dipped into the 20's here over night so it is a bit chilly this morning.

I don't know much about horses except that they are beautiful, amazing that you raise them. 20 degrees! Way too cold for me!

I have a sprained ankle which I obviously irritated by not resting it. I'm starting on an anti-inflammatory and should stay off of it for the weekend. How am I going to do that and go to the festival tomorrow?

Ummmm, unless you have a wheelchair you will be staying home my friend.

I just want to say that I am jealous of everyone's fun weekend plans! I think it is supposed to rain buckets here.

Her mcas scores came home last week, I had forgotten all about them, and she told me she had been waiting for them since June. She did only get one wrong so she's extra happy.

Congratulations to her! Liam's scores came yesterday. He only missed one on the math, but he lost about half the possible points on his essay. He did well enough on the other ELA sections that he still got a Proficient.

Do you have a pair of crutches? They're not the most comfortable things, but they will keep you off your ankle.

My dinner is starting to smell good. Hopefully, it won't be like Robin's and smell good but taste disappointing.

Oh my!! sprains can hurt a lot. Sometimes more than a break. Please take care or you will be miserable in WDW and we can't have that.

Sheryl ~ how's your headache? I hope you are feeling better

Nancy ~ Prayers for Buddy. I hope you find out what the problem is. You take care also. And please let us know how things are. I wish I could help.

Oh my friends! I am floating on air right now! I cannot even begin to tell you how I feel!!!

Prayers Answered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No cooking for you, celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caili is doing much better. The antibiotics work quick! She is doing a good job keeping quiet today, and I am going to keep her home tomorrow too. It seems silly to send her in just for one day.

I'm glad she is better! Liam may be fighting it off, but so far so good if he made it through the school day!

Nancy - Glad y’all had a great time last night! Poor Buddy, he has had more than his share lately, hasn’t he. I’ll be keeping you both in my prayers. I’m very impressed with all of the cleaning you have gotten done!

Looks like I'd better call my Dr. in the AM, my ankle is still swollen, can't have that with WDW right around the corner!

Don't be too impresses, I have no excuses right now, no Nola means I better find something to do. She does visit almost every day though so I don't miss her as much as I was afraid I would

Please stay off of that ankle, sprains are no joke!

It is a blustery day here today. The wind is blowing - they say it could blow to gusts of 60 MPH. It is cold, drizzly, cloudy and just plain nasty out today. YUCK!!
 That is indeed nasty!

Please PM Jay's address to me when you have a chance.

Nancy- You are way ahead of me with your fall prep, I took a screen out of a window today. I promised myself I won't put any fall decorations out until the house is tidy so I better get a move on it.

I have my Fall things out but now I need to get my Halloween decorations out too. I need to do some more on the front porch and wash the windows again, we had our roof cleaned and now they are filthy!

I didn't realize he was facing something like that  Must be terrifying to have your eyesight slowly slip away from you. I hope you hear good news when you go.

#3 iron infusion went fine today - have just one more next week and we'll do labs and see how they are holding. My new meds are still not working, so...

I hope that his vision is not changed, he is one of the rare people whose pigment does not spread.

I hope those meds kick in soon!

Greg surprised me at lunch with my Madame M's 20 layer crepe cake.....this year he picked up the vanilla instead of chocolate but just amazing. So much for the diet before F&W.
Dinner will be take out......I'm happily in sweats & a ponytail;)

Maria- I know you know it but boy, Greg is a real gem of a man!

Quick checkin here, I've had a headache coming on all day & now it's getting bad. I did a quick read-thru.

Feel better soon!

My niece Amy had all of her kids, (2nd graders) write letters to Chris and bound them in a book for him. Most of them told jokes. He said he had so much fun reading their Knock Knock jokes and their stories. Kady's class did the same thing two years ago. Alexis is such a sweetie to think of the children.

Two weeks from now I'll be on a plane headed to Florida! WooHoo! Okay, time to finish getting Emma ready for school. Happy Friday!

Have FUn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to say that I am jealous of everyone's fun weekend plans! I think it is supposed to rain buckets here.
.

Rain here too :sad2:
Nancy ~ Prayers for Buddy. I hope you find out what the problem is. You take care also. And please let us know how things are. I wish I could help.

You all are so nice :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

I don't know what to cook tonight, I was out all day and now I just want a bath!

Hey y'all. After getting over my initial reaction of being upset about my ankle I'm now thinking of what will be best for what's most important, WDW trip of course! I'm seriously considering skipping the festival this weekend. Nothing is worth being miserable on vacation.

Nancy - glad to hear that you still get to see Nola. I usually decorate for Halloween, but they took a beating last year and I don't know what's still good. I'll probably pull them out in the next few days and see if its worth bothering with.

Forgot to mention dinner - its our Friday night group dinner and I missed last week due to work. So I have no idea what the meal is. But it'll be delicious and fun, I'm sure.

Kathy - probably a wise decision. Ya'll can enjoy the LSU game from the comfort of your home! I know that's what we'll be doing tomorrow:thumbsup2

Kathy It is better to rest your ankle. The festival does sound fun.

It is still cold and rainy here. Alex is complaining but I am trying to hold out on the furnance. It is just in the 50's during the day.

Spaghetti and meatball garlic bread for dinner. That should warm him up.

Nancy - glad to hear that you still get to see Nola. I usually decorate for Halloween, but they took a beating last year and I don't know what's still good. I'll probably pull them out in the next few days and see if its worth bothering with.

I love decorating for Halloween. I have quite a few things tucked away and generally add a few new ones each year. I have nothing on my sister Gail, though! She needs a storage unit for her decorations! She and her DH host a party and they go all put in the decorating, Pictures on the wall replace family pics,, coffins are brought out and old mummy's are perched around! My decorations are tame in comparison.

I am planning Kady's Halloween party and think I may have a karaoke party for her. She does want scary this year, so I am going to try to find Halloween songs as well as the kids bop type songsfor the girls. We'll see how I make out!

Dinner was an egg sandwich for me and chicken salad for Buddy. We made the mistake of trying our Pinot Noir that Welby and i bottled last night. After two glasses we did not feel like making dinner. It was delicious! We also bottled the Pinot grigio. We ran out of clear bottles so I cannot bottle the Pinot Grigio Rosato until I buy more clear bottles. It is a pretty color though!

I got my hair done yesterday for my trip. foils, color cut AND I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time!!! Why didn't anyone ever make me do that before? It is awesome. I have been neglecting them for a very long time. After every pull...I said, "Let's see what ya got!".

I lurve getting my eyebrows waxed - feels sooooooooo good. I'm contemplating color with my cut this time. I'm worried abt upkeep and the cost involved. I also wonder if I should try to wear my hair natural until I can't anymore thanks to gray since I'll spend half my life paying for color and save it now  I have some gray but nothing I can't yank out with tweezers.

Aimee--hope the meds start working sooner than later!

Do you dispense Cimzia in your pharmacy? Know if any of your patients are having luck with it? My GI was pretty confident, but I responded very quickly to Humira and Remicade, which are both similar to Cimzia, so I'm a little worried. :confused3

Aimee, The Dean Boy's have an appearance scheduled at the F&W Fest. I guess the lucky people who booked that, might also get to see thier Mama!

I bet that was why she was in town!

We have them near us, and at times they are taking small pets. I've seen them walking the street at night. Coyotes are amazing in that they can make themselves sound like a pack but when it's really just one - it's a hunting trait they have. I've been doing a lot of reading on them and they really are amazing animals - I just don't want them near mine!

I have a sprained ankle which I obviously irritated by not resting it. I'm starting on an anti-inflammatory and should stay off of it for the weekend. How am I going to do that and go to the festival tomorrow?

OUCH! I guess you can't remember spraining it? Well, it's better than a break in that you can recover much faster (now that you know to stay off it!). You should be good for the World in two weeks!!

My BFF (do I sound 13?) lives almost 1.5 hours from me so I went and spent the entire day there today. The time est is without traffic, so I had to go mid morning and stay until after dinner. Anyways, she has three girls age 3, 1.5, and 5 months. I told DH when I returned home that we'll never have children if he spends any length of time in their home  She really needed the company, and I love hanging with her beautiful babies. The weather was gorgeous and 75 today so we ate dinner outside at a local outdoor mall so the girls could run around some.

Bad news is that I didn't get home until 11pm and have to be at work by 830 tomorrow for an all day retreat :headache:
