Oh Jennifer- I am so sorry to hear that- is it possible to delay your vacation if you have no choice of going?

I feel so bad for you and little Tyler!

Rebecca

That just bites.. How can anyone go on strike in today's world?
Hugs to little Tyler! That is just awful...
I hope you are able to just reschedule..and than do something extra special w/ Tyler when you arrive at Disney!

I'm ready for a drink with you! Again, I'm so sorry you are dealing with that currently.. :(

that just stinks! sorry but it does.

how about lets be thankful to have a job!

I'm sooooo sorry! That just bites! I hope you can push the trip back.

:( :( :(

Don't these people realize how high unemployment is? Many people out there willing to take their jobs.

Aw Jennifer, that is so unfair, especially for your little man...

And yes you do need a drink/ativan/chocolate

I'm sorry. What the heck would happen if you don't have trip insurance? Is management going to pay that back to you?
It's just not fair. Not at all.

Hope you are able to just postpone the trip. My little ones know there is not way we can do Disney ON their birthdays. They are happy to pretend it's their birthday when we are there. Get your little guy a Mickey cake for his birthday here and then plan a special dinner for him there.

Double check your insurance before you cancel, if you can at all. We had to cancel a beach trip the day before we were supposed to leave a few years ago because DH's boss decided they couldn't do without him, and if we went he would be fired. We had trip insurance but it wasn't a covered reason to cancel, so they wouldn't pay anything at all.

However, it was just DH & I to be disappointed; our oldest DS was just barely 3 at the time and didn't have a clue what the beach was.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this, I hate it for you. It isn't fair at all, I hope something can be worked out for you.

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about this -- that must be SO frustrating. The good news is that Disney will refund your money, since you're more than 7 days out, but I know that doesn't help with the whole heartache of it all, though.

We had a Disney trip booked for last May for my daughter's 10th birthday that had to be cancelled last minute. Two days before her birthday, doctors found a mass on my ovary that appeared to be cancerous, and I wound up having surgery instead of going to Disney. I know it doesn't compare to the job stress that you're going through, but I wanted to let you know that kids are resilient. If you do have to cancel, you will ALL bounce back from it. I don't mean to make light of your situation, because I know it's heartbreaking. But if you do have to cancel, your family will forgive you.

Keep us posted, please. I really, REALLY hope it works out for you!

That rots! Hope things get worked out. AWM had my question, what if you don't have insurance? Will they pay you back?

If you don't have insurance or it doesn't cover "bosses unable to work things out for themselves" can you refuse? Or join the strike?

DH's old work once asked him two weeks before ging to delay going out because the Asst Mngr had resigned and it "would be hard to get cover for a Saturday in the school holidays". This vacation had been booked since January, and insurance did not cover this (they could only ask - not force) so of course he refused. They "offered to pay for a taxi to the airport if he could come in for the morning" - what good's that with a £250 air ticket needing replacement??! we said no we would not change, and in addition DH resigned, meaning once he left for vacation he would not be back to the company. After grovelling from them he agreed to stay an extra couple of months once we got back, but he still left (I went back to work 4 days a week instead of the 2)

Anyway, back to the plot, I'd have a grown-up conversation about how you understand their position but this is a very special vacation. You could maybe keep in touch by e-mail (if that wouldn't ruin your vacation)

well i didnt sleep very well last night - My 65 year old father called last night to say "ony 13 more days". He is joining us on this trip - he will drive from SC and meet us there he is so excited!!!- I didnt have the heart to tell him that there is some issues going on.
I have made up my mind that i am not cancelling this trip - i will have to work it out with upper management. I have some awesome coworkers/friends that said they would help cover my shifts in the group homes. Lets see how it plays out. We continue to take the numbers off the count down calander. Tyler still talks about what rides he is going to ride with Papa and Logan talks about doing all the "big boy rides" with dad.
Doesnt work realize that Disney is not a vacation that you can reschedule? Hello - I made dinner reservations over 90 days ago
I will keep you posted
thanks for the support

Jennifer I am so sorry you are dealing with this.
Personally I would not cancel the trip, especially if Dad is going too. He is a very important part of the boys lives, they need this time to bond and make memories.

As for the strikers, you can't get blood from a stone. They need be thankful they have a job and not complain about the pay. The state is broke, period.
Maybe a gentle reminder of the fact that a school here in CT had 1 janitorial position open and 700 people applied is needed. They can be replaced.

Oh Jennifer, that stinks!! I'm glad you have some co-workers that are willing to help you out, but who needs all of this added stress when you are supposed to be getting excited for vacation! Hope it all works out. :goodvibes

for people without lives holidays are just something that gets in the way of work;) You go and have a fantstic time - let management get temps in to cover!

Jennifer, I hope everything works out for you. Not sure if a labor dispute is a cause on trip insurance or not.

I fully understand. Living in the Detroit metro area, things are really bad here. I work for county government. My union just settled our contract and we approved 24 furlough days a year for the next 2 years.

I'm lucky because they have an early retirement offer, 20 and out. No age requirement and I get health care! So I have 22 yrs credited service and I'm taking it! :cool1: Although now there seems to be confusion about when we can apply for it. :confused3

Anyways, the polticians around here drive me nuts! They want all the workers to make concessions, but are unwilling to do it themselves.

So hopefully come Oct 1st I'l be a SAHM!

I've just done 20 yrs service, but because of maternity leave and working p/t it only counts as 15:headache: The Govt are currently trying to cap civil service serverance/early retirement which would reduce the current package by 2/3:scared1::mad: We're pushing for them to honour existing contracts (we did it before with the pension, but they're likely to have a go at that again too)
