VS015 - 4 Hour Delay

Hi - how can you wake up with so much excitement - then feel so depressed.

I know, when you receive a text saying the flight is delayed until 17.00 - arriving 21.00 local time due to technical fault with plane.

I suppose at least we only live an hour from Gatwick and can relax at home - I feel sorry for those who are staying at the airport and are perhaps going to be stuck there all day.

Hope this does not affect to many others.

Still - in less than 24 hours we will be in WDW :banana:

I've seen longer delays, but still i know how annoying delays are.

Get out some disney dvd's and let the time roll by!! Have a great trip :)

Sorry to hear about your delay, if you're anything like me you just want to get moving off on your hols!

Like you say, at least you live only an hour away so you're in the comfort of your own home. We always stay overnight (life as far down south as you can get!) and it's not fun rattling around the airport for a delay.

Have a great trip:wizard:

Better a four hour delay and get the plane in top working order than try to fly with a broken part however. :goodvibes

We had more than a 4 hour delay last year and, not having a mobile with us, still got up early to get to the airport. There was a message regarding this on my computer on my return!!! The waiting around was not very nice and we were so tired when we arrived. We had been awake for over 30 hours! Still, as mentioned previously, I would rather the wait than have anything wrong with the plane.

Also, the "spare" 747 had to position out in Orlando yesterday to replace the VS50 after the VS49 was cancelled, so the best option is to repair than replace

Looks like VS15 is now delayed until tomorrow at 9am, assume they let you go home again, never seen a virgin flight this delayed.

Will this have a knock on effect all week, I fly Next Saturday?:scared1::mad:

Obi Wan - do you know generally how quickly they can make up the time?
We were delayed coming home by about 7 hours but apparently they had made it up from a 24 hour delay a few days previously.

They will try to make up te time, but if other factors are stopping this (headwinds, late passengers etc etc) they will try and find a replacement aircraft to bring the schedule back on track.

Just checked VA website and the VS15 for today is showing a 14.50 departure time so it looks like they might be bringing in a plane from somewhere to help out as there are 3 LGW- MCO flights today now.

Yes, VS115 took off at 09:15

VS15 is delayed to 14:50

Vs 27 has a departure time of 11:39

Am now back after our delay!

At the airport we got initally £40 of food vouchers (£10 each)

When the flight was delayed again until 9am the next day, we were given £80 to buy an evening meal and put up in the Hilton overnight with breakfast the next morning.

When we did board we got a standard 'Sorry' letter that means we can claim 12500 air miles for the delay as a gesture of goodwill (7500 for the children).

Virgin were exceptionally helpful at the airport - despite the stress!

I just need to check on the flight delay compensation which we may be entitled to (we had the Virgin Holiday insurance) not sure if anyone can offer advice on this..

Sounds like Virgin did good by you :)

Hopefully this did not spoil the rest of your holiday.
