The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Oh Kat  Between the move, the school and now this....your Mom Heart must be breaking.

All I can say is that he is a nice guy, he is really handsome and was raised right. Just step back and let them work it out or not....there will be another nice girl just waiting to pick up his pieces and mend that broken heart of his if thisrelationship does not work out. Daniel was head over heals with a few girls, some we liked better than others. Marisa liked none of them. But that is another story. Anyway, one girl he saw while in HS was a nice girl and we liked her but they started having issues. He was really hurt and my heart hurt for him. I finally told him that he needed to ask himself if he deserved to be treated that way and really think about they way she behaved. In the end he stopped calling her and told her to stop calling him but it was his first real GF...besides the girl from  I know that Kyle is older than 17 but he is making a big move and his Ali is probably having huge issues with that and he is probably not happy leaving her behind either. That kind of pressure coupled with the fact that they both know he is going to be having a differnt kind of structure in his life is tough.

Thanks Nan, love you. Unfortunately Mariah is moving to Baton Rouge and attending school with Kyle, this was supposed to be a good thing. I've given Lauren the scoop and she can fill y'all in, I'm just sobbing too much right now.

Aimee--totally agree on the antibiotic issue. Hope your DH has fun at Six Flags. The one in Arlington? It was so hot the day we were there this summer!

Yep! I refuse (REFUSE!!) to step foot into Six Flags in the summer... or spring... or fall... But DH really wants to go so he went with two kids. They had a blast! It was muggy but overcast and all the lines were a walk up :confused3

Aimee, For F&W events, you have to pay for them up front on a cc. There is a no cancellation policy.

I would imagine that 2 years of antibiotics could really tear up your system.

Yeah I hope she doesn't have asthma, but treatment has come a long, long way since I was a child! But, I would like to get to the bottom of some of her almost constant illness.

Aimee, I have to admit we have not been very involved in our church service community the last few years. We go to church, but being Catholic unless you get involved service groups where you have friends to call on, there isn't any church organization we could call on for help. That's our fault, but with our own heath problems, commitment to service is hard. :guilty:

When I was going through diagnosis and stuff, we didn't attend church for almost a year - and I was a seminary student! Just getting to class killed me and Sundays was a no-go. I understand where people with chronic health issues are coming from on the church thing. We have a couple of ministries in place to help keep them connected and cared for but it's hard

Bummer there is no hope of someone canceling and opening up a spot for y'all!

I have a huge OT vent. This is a little state beach we went to. There is a changing room with an open shower room and rest rooms on the other side. There are no family rooms, the showers are just to rinse sand off. What would possess grown women to strip to the buff in an open room that is between the bathrooms and the changing rooms????????????? I am not offended by nudity in a women's gym room although I am not stripping down and parking my shiny self down on the benches while I wipe my tootsies. I am :scared1::eek::scared: by women scrubbing the sand off their hoo hoos while Mother's are quick hiding their little boys eyes becasue whpo on Earth would have expected to see a show? And do not get me started on teh mother who pulled her little one's suit off and had it pee in the sand on the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:rotfl: and

Just wanted to stop in and ask for good thoughts and prayers for my boy. He & Mariah are having issues, big ones. I'm praying he comes out of this with his heart unbroken, but it's not looking promising. This is the last thing he needs while starting his new life.:sad1:

 DH and I were together at that age, and we broke up at one point. Nearly killed me. It's so so so hard to deal with all those changes at once. We did end up back together but it was painful. I wish no one had to go through the pain of dating/relationships/etc.

We ended up at Pei Wei tonight - I had lettuce wraps (I skipped the lettuce to avoid the added "bulk"). Man alive, I'm not sure how much longer this whole solid food thing is going to last. It's been fun while it lasted!

Sheryl- I hope that you are not feeling that you need to honor that contract you signed. The agency has not kept their commitment. I would call the woman who is having the baby, ask her to recommend someone that she knows and trusts and hire that person.

Nan, I had asked her if she knew anyone to recommend, but she didn't. We have been playing phone tage with each other, but I will ask her again.

I don't know what to say about that!! There are some strange, strange people around!

I hope y'all have a good time again tomorrow. Hopefully without nudies in the showers!

I have a lot to say about this post of yours. :rolleyes1
1) That word "y'all" is beginning to encroach on my vocabulary.
2) My cell phone service has been utterly HORRENDOUS this week
.3) As for Alexis - I agree that she is probably developing allergies. Does her house have any mold or mildew in it? It didn't take a lot of it to get me sick a lot in NYC - and coughing was very much an issue - I have asthma though too.
4) :rotfl: on the food. The other half of my po boy from lunch last week mysteriously disappeared while I was out wherever I had gone (I can't remember? :confused3) last Friday. :rolleyes1

Okay, let's see... #1) I'm glad! 2) I'm sorry, I hope you can get that fixed. Maybe you need to have your phone reset at the store. 3) We know she has allergies but no mold/mildew around. 4) I know there must be a couple of good poboy shops in your neighborhood! Have you asked Terry or Kat? I also still need to get you some decent pizza.

How was work this week?

Thanks Nan, love you. Unfortunately Mariah is moving to Baton Rouge and attending school with Kyle, this was supposed to be a good thing. I've given Lauren the scoop and she can fill y'all in, I'm just sobbing too much right now.

Kathy, I'm so sorry that Kyle is going through this. I know how much it hurts to see your baby with a brokenheart. Angelina went through a very bad breakup right before heading to LSU. I had the quite serious urge to run over a certain young man with my car! But big surprise to me, she got over rather quickly, meeting all guys from all over the country. But then she ran into Josh in her 2nd semester & you know the rest of that story. He really will be okay. I promise! I will be praying for him to handle it all, but I know he can do it.

Thanks so much for telling me about that! I fee better about my lack of commitment to service, but don't worry I do feel convicted. ;)

I'm glad you were able to enjoy dinner, sad that you have to worry about how long it will last.

Ellen, Thanks for the TR! I've really enjoyed reading it! I second your suggestion to meet Web friends,"being safe & in a public place". I have made some wonderful friends on the Dis & have loved meeting some of them! I now have a new group of friends here at home in Nola due to the DIS (Kathy, Bethany & more). Plus I have my great WFD friends, the ones I've met so far, ( Becky & Laura) are great people! I can't wait for Oct. to meet more!

Janice, How are you coming on your floor?

speaking of floors, I wonder if Gretchen ever got her floor done?

Dinner was take out (oh Bethany!) Roast Beef po-boy! Actually I skyped Bob and told him I wanted 25 rb poboys! But thank goodness a half of a large over stuffed one sufficed.

 Lots of changes are going on it created a lot of stress. Try not to worry Momma Bear your cub will be fine. Remember to remind me when I go through this. ;) When we were registering the other day I was watching the girls check out Alex Oh boy . I am not ready for High school.

Sheryl The floor in the spare room is nearly done just needs trim work. I still have not started Alex's room yet. I was going to do it on my days off but thought mom and son time was better .

We are finally getting warm weather. Yesterday at the zoo was good but hot.

Today I have got to get my yardwork in order It looks like a jungle out there.

Nancy -- Yikes! I hope your day today was a little less graphic.

Kathy -- I'm so sorry Kyle is going through all this now. As Sheryl said though, I know he will get through it and come out the other side stronger. LSU is a big school with plenty of distractions to help mend a broken heart.

Janice -- We are getting warm weather now today. I looked at the forecast for the next five days, and it looks like it will hit 90 every day. Good thing we have a beach day planned Monday.

Aimee -- I'm glad your DH had fun. That really was so nice of him. It is just ridiculous that your health is deteriorating because you can't get your medicine. I am

I think I am making barbecued ribs for dinner. The kids won't eat those, so I'll have to figure something else out for them. We'll also have corn on the cob and a salad.

Sheryl, I am sorry that your aide situation is not working out. I hope you can find someone to help you soon.

Kathy, I am sorry about Kyle also! What bad timing on top of the move.

Here is a photo of last night's dinner. Arugula salad with apricots and pistachios in a lemon vinagrette. The things on top are soft boiled eggs that were rolled in ground cashews, parmesean cheese, and panko and fried. I should have taken a picture of them cut into but I forgot. It tasted good but was a lot of work for a weeknight. I think I am just doing burgers this evening. That's what I had in mind for last night but John wanted a salad.

I had planned to be at work from 9-2 today but the class painting got finished before 11 :cool1: so we were able to grab lunch out and run errands.

Tonight I'm making a crab and corn pasta from the latest Rachael Ray mag... if I am remember right.

Kathy, thinking of you. Sending prayers for Kyle. I know you hate to see him hurt, be strong Mom.

Sheryl, sorry to hear thee are still aide troubles. Please do not push yourself and get hurt. Hope all works out soon. You can also vent away here, we are really great listeners.

Nan, thanks for the visual at the beach. You had me chuckling, the nerve of some wackos. :rotfl:

Has Vickie or Marisa checked in lately and I missed them????

ellen, great TR.

Aimee, crab and corn pasta sounds great!!!

Becky, I hate eggs but yours always look so darn good.

Hugs and well wishes to everyone.

Off for some 'me' time...Emma is sleeping in the swing, and DS is playing with a new train. Someone asked me the other day if Luke still napped...I WISH!
We had to give up his naps to get him sleeping all night.

Well so far we are having a lousy weekend. It has been DH's week on call and it has been awful. I went to Target this morning but I feel like it is a wasted weekend so far.

Our computer is shot. We are looking into a MAC.

WFD- neither of us are hungry right now. I have boneless pork chops soaking in Italian dressing to be grilled. I might just end up pounding them for sandwiches instead of making a big dinner.

Our computer is shot. We are looking into a MAC.

I love my Mac! In fact, I just got one for Liam because he needs a computer to do his homework this year. He is taking up the trumpet, and there is practice software he needs to use. I don't really want him practicing in my bedroom, which is where my computer is.

Grr...I can tell it is August. The fruit fly invasion is in full-force.

I just ended up heating up all the leftovers that were in the refrigerator for dinner. I had some Indian food, Caili had steak, and Liam had chicken tenders. I also made a salad. That was a real workout.

Thanks for all the good thoughts for my boy, y'all are the best! I probably won't be able to catch up here until Monday, Johnny & I are going back to Baton Rouge tomorrow. Kyle forgot a few things and that's my excuse to go back. He says that he and Mariah are going to try and work things out but he's not in any hurry to do it. I laughed so hard, as soon as we got to his apartment complex we walked by the pool and there were at least a dozen bikini clad girls and of course Kyle & Johnny were checking them out and I heard Johnny ask Kyle if he'd heard from Mariah yet today and Kyle said Mariah who?:rotfl2: Seriously I know how much he cares for her and I just want him to be happy, with or without her.

I did pretty well until it was time to come home then the tears were flowing. I'll be OK, thanks to all my great friends here. Johnny has the day off next Friday and since we didn't really get to see the complex and the campus as much as we wanted to, we're planning a trip Friday and we'll do some campus touring and take Kyle and his roommates out to lunch!

That sounds great, Kathy! When I was in college, I wished that I had picked one closer to home so my parents could come visit more often. Of course, when I was deciding where to go, I wanted to get away.

Our computer is shot. We are looking into a MAC.

We bought a new laptop today - sadly, not a Mac. My laptop, which we bought when I was in seminary, is what DH uses since I have a work issued laptop. It is dying a sad slow painful death and last night (when DH was gone :rolleyes1) I knocked if off the chair I was sitting in and the entire button panel that holds the screen on fell off. :sad2: You can still use it, but we would need to just duct tape it together  You might be a redneck...

So, we found a $300 Toshiba that will do the job just fine for us and bought it today.

:rotfl2::lmao: Good thing I was not drinking anything yet. Let me know how you like your Toshiba I was thinking of getting a laptop for Alex. I am undecided whether a laptop would be good or a desktop unit.

Kathy Your Kyle had his head on right. :thumbsup2 There are many fish in the sea. If Mariah is the one she and He will work things out.

Tonight was frozen pizza. I think I did a little to much outside today or it is the last couple of days catching up on me. I am beat.

I may not post until late tomorrow or Monday. We are going with friends to a state park for a fund raiser. We leave kind of early.

Made this for a birthday party, wasn't much left when I went home.

Quick & Easy Casserole (This is how it is listed on the box)

Create a casserole by layering frozen pierogies in a 9x13 pan with 1 can (14.5 oz.) diced italian tomatoes, 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce, sliced pepperoni, diced green pepper and shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes until hot and bubbling.

Glad to hear positives on MAC, our last one was DELL but DH wants to change.

I am right with you on the fruit fly invasion, but I ready on the DIS they are actually drain flies!!!:scared1:I poured bleach down kitchen drain and have seen some improvement. We are also seeing an increase in the occasional black ant  sometimes I hate living surrounded by woods. I do have Luke trained to hunt the ants, he lets us know to kill them...so cute. The other day he said, "Mommy there is an ant in Tidmouth Shed (that is his Thomas train depot)" I thought he was kidding I said where, he replied in there...sure enough I opened the little door and it was looking right at me. :lmao:

WFD- :confused3:confused3

I need to grocery shop.

Keep that chin up Kathy, thinking of you and Johnny.

Drain flies??? EEEEWWWW! I have "fruit flies" also, and I am going upstairs to dump bleach in the drain as soon as I finish this post!

Kathy, I hope you are holding up OK today. At least you got to go back soon!

Dinner did end up being burgers. I made turkey burgers

and sweet potato fries

3826421222_9ebae6cbfd.jpg

Today I am grilling red snappers and making eggplant sticks and a salad.

Some Bermuda pictures are up on my Facebook page if anyone is interested.

Have a good day everyone!

Sheryl- I sure hope that you are able to get this aid thing fixed fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw that you wanted 25 po'boys and laughed. All I could picture was my guy in roast beef heaven!

Ann- :rotfl::rotfl:The Adventures of Little Luke, Wild Animal Tracker"

Thanks for the bleach tip....I have some of those flies and am now paranoid, ever since Buddy kept that pie out while the rest of us were in Disney. Donny has never forgiven him, the top was moving so he threw the whole thing out and was positive he brought home some hitchhikers. The worst thing was that when I called home Bud said someone stole his pie!:dance3:

Kat- Mariah Who?????? If the two of them are meant to be it will work out, but if history repeats itself Kyle will have a nice girl helping to mend his broken heart. Have fun touring his campus!

Becky- I have never seen eggs that look like that! Oh my goodness, that whole dish looked like it should be on the cover of Bon Apetit! Heading to FB now!

The beach was uneventful as far as shower shows went, thank goodness! But it was crowded! We got there plenty early because I like to be close enought to the water to see the kids if they play in the sand. Buddy is exhausted, they had him out in the water all day or over on the rocks crabbing. He loved it though! We fed them at the snack shack early. By 11:30 the line was LONG so we were glad we insisted that they get food. They were starving once their fries and subs and burgers were in front of them. Best onion rings I have had in years!

I had eggss for dinner....not pretty like Becky's though. I intend to grill the chilcken I have marinating in a tequila lime marinade if it is still good. If not I'll toss some steaks on the grill.

Marisa is burnt to a crisp, she begged off yesterday's trip, she did not use sunscreen until it was too late! I brought some stinky linament over for her to use, It smells like the dickens but it works! Poor Kady got chafed from the sand and salt so I had some blue gel that she used all day yesterday. Between the sunscreen staying white on them adn the blue stuff on her :rotfl:

I am right with you on the fruit fly invasion, but I ready on the DIS they are actually drain flies!!!

Yuck! I'm getting my bleach out too!

You can still use it, but we would need to just duct tape it together  You might be a redneck...
 I hope your new one works out well for you.

Kathy -- I hope you had a nice day.

Nancy -- I'm glad you didn't have any more shower scenes. Poor Marisa...I have been there. Not fun.

Dinner today was delicious! We had whole grilled red snapper with a grilled corn salsa, Mom's eggplant sticks, a pesto pasta salad and a green salad with homemade ranch dressing. YUM!

Tomorrow my dad is taking me and the kids to the beach. It is going to be hot, so it should be fun. I think I almost have Beck and John convinced to play hookie from work tomorrow and join us. :thumbsup2
