Hi Budget Boarders!

A friend of mine took her 15 yr old son shoe shopping only to find that he now wears a size 13 EEEE. Being single mom she is really starting to stress about the cost to keep this poor kid in shoes as she has been told that most likely he will need to special order all of his shoes! As she was venting, my first thought was to check with the oh so knowledgeable budget board to see if anyone had any ideas on where to find affordable shoes for her still growing son.

Thanks so much!
Jessica

New Balance makes a athletic type shoes in EEE. They look just like the other styles. My DH wears a EEE and he loves them. If you have a Shoe Station near that is where he finds his. They can also be found online on the Shoe Station site. They run 20% off coupons quite a bit.

Not sure if they go to a 13 but I do know they have EEE.

DH wears 14 quad E and only New Balance fit him. I either find them in Outlets, or wait until Casual Male has a coupon sale.

I wear a 13EEEE or sometimes a 14EEEE. I have never had any problem with New Balance. Another choice is Hush Puppies, which goes to very wide.

I have very wide feet for a woman (4E) and zappos is the only place I have purchased shoes in years (except for crocs which run wide enough). And they offer free shipping *both ways*.

DS wears a 14EEEE....

Nike has actually started making some shoes in widths -

Mainly I buy at Nike.com or NBwebexpress.com or APerfectDealer.com.

Occasionally you can find widths on clearance in large sizes at sporting goods stores but you have to get lucky!

:)

My Dad is a 13EEEE. I am often able to find New Balance Gym Shoes that fit him at TJMaxx/Marshalls. If I can find them there they are either $29 or $39, I can't remember.

If I need a dress shoe for him, and I am too lazy to shop around, I can get them at Nordstroms. Make friends with a shoe guy there and they will call you when they have sales with your size remaining.

The third place I use is a regional department store called Von Maur, not sure if you have any near you, however they are the best at calling when they get large wide shoes they cannot sell. I have bought him Johnston & Murphy shoes in normal black or brown styles for as little as $40.00--once I get them I make certain they are resoled often so they don't need to be replaced until his feet eat them from the inside. This strategy may not work, if the kid is still growing.

I second this reply as I am wearing a pair of NB 748's, 13 EEEE purchased from the Shoe Station site w/a 20% coupon. They have a good selection of athletic shoes in wide and extra wide widths and New Balance fits my feet better than any of the other brands. I have also found NB wider widths on sale at Casual Male from time to time.

Thanks for all of the replies! I will pass all of this on to her.

joesnewbalance.com has New Balance clearance shoes. I have gotten a number of pairs under $30 and I have huge boat feet, too.

Zappos is definitely the way to go. My 16 yr. old wears a 15EE it's next to impossible to find his size other than specialty shoe stores which are expensive.
We have always been able to find reasonable prices at Zappos and they shipping is fantastic.

Btw...New Balance seems to be the most comfortable brand for him.

Is it joesnewbalanceoutlet.com by any chance? I didn't have any luck with the first site.

Thanks! :goodvibes

DH is a 12 quad E. He has been sucessful at Kohls with New Balance and often at discount prices. Also Casual Male and Big and Tall have a good but limited selection of dress and atheletic shoes. We also have a Shoe Show and Shoe Carnival that have both had tennis shoes, but they are more hit or miss. Hope she can find someting.
