The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Bethany ~ I miss you being around, but I am so glad you are where you are and out of NYC. Hey, how is your new puppy doing? House breaking?

Thank goodness it's Thursday and the sun is shining. I will try to get another day of my trip report up today. Enjoy or skip it - your choice. :rotfl2:

You did a bombdiggity summary! :thumbsup2

Thanks. I am glad I'm where I am too! :goodvibes She is good. I'm about to take her to the vet for some shots. :scared: I have a TON of photos that I need to upload to my Webshots account. When I do that I'll post the link. The house breaking is coming along...slowly but surely. I have very clean floors because I mop a lot. :lmao:

Yay! More trip report!

We went to City Park again today. :thumbsup2 A friend from the NOLA thread showed my DH and I around. She is like a walking City Park encyclopedia; she loves the park and knows SO MUCH about it! :goodvibes

Day 3 – Wednesday June 17th
Again I was up first at 8:30. I showered and grabbed the mugs and went to get coffee. It was a beautiful morning, hot but still nice. I went back to the room and Doug was just getting ready to leave so we went back and sat by the pool. We got a little hungry so we went to the food court and got some yogurt things, and a bagel. We went back to the pool and ate our breakfast. We enjoyed our coffee and talked about what we were going to do today. We looked up and here came Matthew and Ali. They were ready to go. I had Matthew run the mugs back to the room and we were off.
We were going to Epcot today and we waited and waited for a bus. Finally a Mears bus pulled up and we all just stood there wondering what he was doing. Finally he yelled – EPCOT. We all got on. It was really weird to be sitting in this bus. But Doug and I agreed, it was pretty cool. We also both thought it was a very expensive way to get guests for the Resort to the parks. Oh well, he dropped us off at the main entrance. We didn’t have to hike the usual long distance from where they usually drop you off for Pop Century. Ali and I went through the bag check and I got chewed out big time from this lady who thought I was cutting in front of her. Hello!!! There are 2 lines Lady!! OMGoodnes was she mad at me. The Security guard even told her to step aside. I got through real fast and high tailed it to Doug. I was afraid that she was going to hit me. Wow!! So we all get in line to go through the entrance and there were 4 people in front of us and they just couldn’t figure out how to get their passes to work and the CM was no help at all. She must have put that pass through 10 times and it never did work. We would have gone to another line but the mean lady was right beside me. I stayed put. It took us 10 minutes to get into the park. Good grief!!
Space Ship Earth had a 1 hour wait, so we bypassed that real fast. Matthew ran over to Soarin and got us FP’s and met us at Ellen’s. We just got up to the door and they came out and said it was closed due to technical difficulties. So we left and decided to do Test Track in the Single Riders line. We walked right into and through the room and right in line. Matthew and Ali ended up in the same car as did Doug and I. We were getting hungry so we went to the Electric Umbrella. We got cheeseburgers and Caesar salads. It was so good and really cool so we didn’t hurry at all. In fact we talked and just people watched for quite awhile. Once we were finished we walked over to see if Ellen’s was open and it was so in we went. It was dark and cool and Doug was down for the count. I was worried that he was going to start snoring. LOL Next we went over to HISTA and had a good time watching all of the newbies. I love it. The man sitting next to me screamed like a little girl when the mice invaded the audience. OMG it was priceless. Next was Figment, and you won’t believe it but there was a line. Not a big one but a line none the less. We then walked over to the Living Seas to see Finding Nemo. It was a complete walk on. That queue takes 10 minutes just to walk through. I love this little ride. It is truly Disney at its best. I took some time and watched the Manatees. I love visiting them. We looked at the jelly fish and sea horses. Then Matthew and I decided we needed a ride on Mission Space, so off we went. The line said 30 minutes but we were on in about 10. I love this ride and it was cool riding it with Matthew. We were joined by a man who was a bit scared but we all did our mission’s and got to Mars all safe and sound. As we exited we found Doug and Ali eating Mickey bars. Matthew & I had to go get one also. We walked over and watched the fountain during one of the numbers. I could sit all day and watch it. We went into Ice Station Cool to get a drink. Hey it is HOT out. We were standing there and this lady was standing next to me and all of a sudden she was gasping –I thought she was choking – and shivering from head to toe. She had tried Beverly. OMGosh it was so funny. I am such a bad person because all I could do – after I realized she wasn’t dying – was laugh my heart out. It was so funny, I only wished I had had my camera.
We decided at this point to go to World Showcase. We started at Mexico. Ali loves Mexican food so there was no way we were going to get her past the nachos so in we went. We got 2 orders and shared. All of a sudden Doug was gone and we couldn’t figure out where he was, when all of a sudden here he came with a Fiesta Margarita for me. Oh that Man knows me so well. It was so hot out that it really tasted good and went down much to fast. We got an order of Churros to share also. We sat for a bit and watched the boats with kites out on the lake. They were so pretty. We took off for China next as Doug wanted his pot stickers and an egg roll. The kids watched the acrobats while we ate. When we were finished we headed on around. It was so hot out that we were fading real fast. We got to the Outpost before we all decided we just couldn’t go any further so we turned around. We went to the Land to use our FP’s for Soarin. We got the 2nd row and we all enjoyed it. I just love this ride.
We decided to leave so we left out of the International Gateway and just walked over to the Boardwalk. We always have Spoodles Pizza out on the Boardwalk each trip. But it was just too hot. There was no way that we could do it this year. So Matthew decided that ESPN sounded good. As we were walking up there was quite a line and I could see Matthew’s face fall. He really wanted to eat here. Well as we got closer I saw that above the entrance on the left side it says line for Sit down dining & on the right side it said enter for seat yourself. There was no line on the right, so off I went. I think they were all afraid I was going to get in another fight but I just kept walking and Matthew was right behind me. Doug and Ali were totally little chickens. Anyway I go in and find us a high top and sit down. Matthew went and got the little chickens and we soon had big glasses of water in front of us. Our waitress was so good. She got an order of Onion rings to us real fast. As we were sitting there a young man, about the age of Matthew & Ali came up to us and remarked on Matthew’s hat. He was wearing his red and white N hat (for Nebraska) He was so excited to talk to us, as he had just signed with Nebraska and was really forward to coming to the University. He was from Pennsylvania. He was a cute kid and really enjoyed talking to Matthew and Ali. It really is a small world huh? We had a really nice time and all felt better once we cooled off and got our tummies full.
We did a bit of shopping in the store and headed for the boats for Disney Hollywood Studios. Matthew really wanted to walk but it was still really hot out. As we walked up a boat arrived. We waited and waited and waited for the captain to come out, but he never did and pulled away with no one getting on or off. Was really strange. It was just way to hot to stand out and wait for another one so we went up to the shops. There was a magician out so we stopped and watched him for a bit. Pretty soon another boat pulled up and we hurried down to get on. They didn’t have the AC on but it was nice sitting out side.
We got to DHS around 8:00. We went directly back to Toy Story and the wait was 120 minutes – no way. We went then and check out RRC and the wait there was 90 minutes so over to ToT we go and that line was 50 minutes. These waits were just crazy. By this time is was 9:00 and EMH had just started and I have never seen such wait times before. We just meandered for a bit and realized that if we were going to do anything we had better get in line so we opted for ToT as it was the shortest. Doug waited outside for us. We got in line and they had the misters going full blast. It was just miserable. It was still VERY hot but the misters were so thick that we were dripping wet. I had to take my glasses off as I couldn’t see out of them. It was just awful. We ended up being in line for over an hour but really got to know the people around us. One lady and her daughter were from WV and the guy in front of us was a Marine and was from Utah. It really made the time go faster by talking to them. We had a great ride – probably the best I have ever had. I didn’t think we would ever stop going up and down. Sweet!!! We got off and found Doug having a great conversation with a man about Nebraska football. We went back to check on Toy Story and the line now was only 40 minutes so we decided to do it. We were on in about 25 minutes. I LOVE this ride and we all had a great time. Matthew won with Doug second, Ali 3rd and I brought up the rear. We were all within a few thousand of each other though.
By this time DHS was closed. So out we go to the bus stop and by golly there was one there and we were able to get on. We had to stand but we didn’t care. Back to Pop and the room. We all were pooped as the heat today really took its toll. The US Open golf game was on this week, so the boys had to check the leader board, and we watched a few highlights. We are a real golfing family, so this was important to us. Matthew had downloaded it to his phone so he was able to check in with the Open all day. We were in bed and lights out at 12:30.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say thank you for all the love and support. It means so very much!

Dad, well, I just don't know what to say. Like I told Maria, he didn't get his last two scheduled chemo treatments. The first one he didn't get because he was dehydrated. The most recent he didn't get because he was anemic. He received a couple of transfusions instead. Those have helped him have more energy and feel better (also I think he is feeling better because he didn't get any chemo for the last two weeks).

I know I should post more often, but I am reading daily to keep up. Still REALLY looking forward to October.

Happy National Cheesecake Day! :woohoo: :goodvibes

A coworker went over to get Cheesecake Factory for lunch and I got a piece of Key Lime Cheesecake. :cloud9:

Dinner tonight will be the salmon from last night. Ended up just throwing some chicken strips in the oven, I didn't get hungry until almost 9:00.

Great update Ellen!! Now you've reminded me that no trip to WDW is complete for my DH without a stop at ESPN club...the man has to have the hot wings, BUT there is no room to squeeze it in.

Lauren -- I am so glad your nephew is okay. Is it a baseball camp Andrew is going to next week?

Bud thought I was too fussy but at the cost of king salmon it is a shame if it is less than really good.

I hear you on this. I've wrecked salmon before, and it's so frustrating. Oh, and don't be too impressed with the dinner last night. I just cooked everything on the grill, so it was easy to give everyone what they wanted. I will say that Liam was very surprised when he saw that we all had a different meal. I usually don't do that.

Gretchen -- It is so nice to hear from you. I think of you often, and your dad is in my prayers. Please don't feel like you need to try to keep up and post.

Ann -- I love Rugged Bear! There is an outlet near my parents' house, and I get almost all of Caili's clothes there. I am sure Luke is going to look so cute in all his new clothes.

Maria -- :cool1: for Emily! That is so great!

Aimee -- I'm glad you're feeling a little better today. You are more restrained than I would be...if I had a sore throat, I would be drinking milkshakes (frappes, here) all day.

Sheryl -- Take it easy! How is Alexis doing during your recovery? She must miss you. I know you miss her!

I will probably get a Subway

Do you know that my brother went to Ireland last week and the only places he ate were Subway, Burger King and McDonald's?? :confused3:sad2:

Thanks for the continuing trip report! I am enjoying reading it.

Bethany -- I am glad you are liking your new home and city! I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of your cutie.

Marilyn -- I had no idea cheesecake had its own holiday. I guess it deserves it.

We're having flounder and a big salad for dinner tonight.

Do you know that my brother went to Ireland last week and the only places he ate were Subway, Burger King and McDonald's?? :confused3:sad2:
.

Laura, that shouldn't be legal:confused3

Sheryl, you got it! Greg & ground turkey just don't work. I think he makes up his mind he is going to dislike it before he even tries it.

Bethany, your sounding like a NOLA girl already!;)

Ellen, I'm off to read your TR, thank you for the kind words:hug:

Do you know that my brother went to Ireland last week and the only places he ate were Subway, Burger King and McDonald's?? :confused3:sad2:

I can totally relate!! This is probably the most upset I have ever been at my family. 2 years ago we went to Rome. I had been before, but Doug, Matthew and Stephanie hadn't. I was so excited to show them one of my favorite cities. We walked through the streets and came out onto the Parthanon. It just takes my breath away. I am standing there looking at it and I turn around and all 3 of them have their back to it and lovingly looking at a McDonalds. Right across from the Partnanon. WTH!!!! :confused3
Now mind you we had been on a 2 week cruise in the Mediterranean with wonderful food so I guess a McDonalds did look good to them but they were in Rome at the Parthanon. I lost them, before I could even say anything, they were in that line ordering Cheeseburgers and fries. They ate outside and I sat with my back to them enjoying my view of the Parthanon. I was so mad at them!!!

I can relate to that. My very first cruise we were in St. Thomas and as we passed a KFC I suddenly wanted some so badly. I think it was because we had been eating so much "fancier" foods I wanted some good "Home" cooking. :rotfl:

Laura, what town is the Rugged Bear outlet in??? I wonder if it is worth a trip sometime to check it out.

Maria, great news on Emily!!! Thanks for the tip on the ham steaks. I will keep it in mind for when he actually lets me serve them to him. I love ham steaks, him not so much.

Change of dinner plans- Someone did not want ham, and it wasn't me :rolleyes1.... Sloppy Joes and onion rings are the new plan.

Aimee & Sheryl, hope you are feeling well today!

tonight is Library night so it dinner has to be quick. We are having sloppy joes fries and corn.

Bethany It sounds like you are you have become quite the southern belle :rotfl:

Sheryl I am glad you are only sore and not hurting really bad. Be careful and I certainly hope the aid is extra careful with Bob. That must not a have been pleasant for him either. Glad you got that roach and not the other way around.
I still need you to get me the F&W cookbook plus drink Rosa, Grand Marnier slushie oh and a grey goose one too. Tequila and I only fight so that can be on your own. I hear Edy's will have a booth so that too and what ever else looks good. :rotfl2:

Ladies help Sheryl with my food and drink requests please

Gretchen Take care of yourself and don't worry about posting. Spending time with your Dad is important I hope he is well enough to start the chemo again:hug:

Ellen, I'm enjoying your TR! I have a problem though, now I can't get "It's a Small World" out of my head!

Sheryl -- Take it easy! How is Alexis doing during your recovery? She must miss you. I know you miss her!

Do you know that my brother went to Ireland last week and the only places he ate were Subway, Burger King and McDonald's?? :confused3:sad2:

Laura, She had called me on Friday (she has figured out how to use her Mom & Dad's cell phones) to ask me how I was & to tell me how much she missed me. Both of us ended up teary & sniffling. I forgot to mention that Bob went pick her up on Sunday, so I could see her. Her & I were both in hog heaven!

I really am having a hard time believing that! Actually now that I think about it, I'm sure both of my brothers would do the same. :confused3:sad2:

Marilyn, I had to laugh at your "home cooking"! :lmao:

Janice, We are slowly but surely indoctrinating Bethany! Hopefully she'll end up sounding like us & be able to cook a pot of Red Beans on Mondays. ;)

I can handle all of that for you, except believe or not the ice-cream! I have trouble with too much milk or icecream. But I've go you covered on the alcohol & your book! Hopefully I won't do all of it in one day!

No cooking again for me, DH is picking up Outback.

Hey y'all I'm asking for prayers, here's a little background. Three years ago my sister-in-law lost her son at age 19 to drugs. Within a year she and her husband divorced and she was drinking heavily and on pain pills. She is now dying, her liver is shot. From what the doctors told us a little while ago she doesn't have much time so please keep her in your prayers.

I had a multi-quote going but had to abandon it and run to Walgreens for children's benadryl because Anabelle is having an allergic reaction to her shots. Poor baby. I hope she is okay. The vet is closed (at 5) and the emergency clinic their phone system patches to is not open until 6. :scared:

Her face is all swollen along with other spots on her body and she is really really lethargic. :sad1:

Oh no! Please keep us updated.

I'm trying this again. Anabelle is snoozing in my lap and I am keeping a close eye on her. :worried: I'm a bit worried about her.

Finally a Mears bus pulled up and we all just stood there wondering what he was doing. Finally he yelled – EPCOT.

The bus thing is strange! Maybe they do that in a pinch. I believe they have a contract or something with Mears; they do the Magical Express and the Cruise Line buses if I'm not mistaken.

Okay - between the security line issue, the ticket machine issue, and the breakdown at the first ride you go to; I'd be aggravated...especially in that heat! It sounds like you didn't let it get you down, though! :thumbsup2

That is a funny reaction. Was she laughing later too? :rotfl2:

From living in Colorado, I know how big of a deal Nebraska football is. That is exciting for him.

Those TOT misters...OMG. They had them going full blast on one of my August trips and the air was thick enough from the Florida heat and humidity, that when they added that mist in, I felt like I could barely breathe!

Great update Ellen!! Now you've reminded me that no trip to WDW is complete for my DH without a stop at ESPN club...the man has to have the hot wings, BUT there is no room to squeeze it in.

Maybe your DH will want to slip away from a large group of women to go get some hot wings for a little bit?

Do you know that my brother went to Ireland last week and the only places he ate were Subway, Burger King and McDonald's?? :confused3:sad2:

Bethany -- I am glad you are liking your new home and city! I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of your cutie.

Okay, I am a picky eater and I know it. That said, I went to Europe back in 2000 and only had McDonald's ONCE...and that was because it was a high school group band trip and we were given vouchers to use on that particular day in London.

Please don't ask me about that food on that trip though. I do not have the receipts organized like Marisa, nor do I remember the meals OR have photos of the food. :rotfl: I do remember a really good bowl of French Onion soup and also a sandwich on a baguette somewhere in France.

Oh - I do have a funny story. We had taken a ferry from England into France. We got back on the bus and somewhere between the Channel and Paris we stopped at a food court type place to eat dinner. Well, I don't speak French aside from a few words. Suddenly I found myself having to order chicken strips in French. Lucky me the guy spoke English. :rotfl2:

Oh, and they told us too that the polite thing to do is to greet them with "bonjour", yet from your accent they'd know you were American and would reply in English. MMMhmmmm. Yeah, okay. NOT SO. By the third day in France, I'd get a reply in French. UHHH they did NOT tell us what to do if THAT happened! The blank stare they got in reply would switch them over to English real quick. :rotfl2:

And thanks...I'll try to get more photos uploaded tonight.

Bethany, your sounding like a NOLA girl already!;)

Oh geez....what'd I say?!? Did a "y'all" slip out?!? :scared:

My DH is already muttering about what neighborhoods he likes the houses in...

I could SO help with the ice cream...IF I was there. *pout*

Bethany please watch her.....did you call the ER doctor?
Lily was stung in the eye by a wasp & her poor face blew up in seconds, we were very lucky that her vet was opened, steroids & Benydryl for her with that vet trip. She was running to come into the house & ran right into a wasp. Please keep us posted.

Ellen, loving your TR!!

Dinner ended up being fried chicken & cole slaw.....

Has anyone else watched "Chopped" on the Food Network? Fun show:thumbsup2
