Photopass cd?

i am so thrilled that I discovered this website! I am learning so many new things.

So the photo pass, I have seen it mentioned a few times. How do you get it? Do you get it once you go to the park and ask for the cd option and they put it on a disk right then and there? Or do you have to order it once you get home? I went to Disneyland.com but it was not too helpful, and the chat options wasn't available.

First of all, beware - this website is addictive! You may 'think' you are only coming on for a few posts to help plan your next trip, but you will find that the lure of the DISboards is too much to bear and you will find yourself visiting over and over again!

The way PhotoPass works is that you can either get a (free) PhotoPass card from any of the 3 DLR hotels, or as soon as you set foot in the parks. Each PhotoPass photographer has cards with him/her and when you take your first pictures, they scan a little area on the card to code in your photos. You take that same card with you to every PhotoPass photographer you see (and it is a good idea to take a picture of the back of the card or jot down the Card's number so in case it gets lost at some point, you can enter in the number on the PP website and access your photos) and they will scan it each time. You can get thousands of photos on one PhotoPass online account/CD. Ask for "magic shots," and you will suddenly find Tinkerbell in your hand, Stitch popping up out of the ground, Mickey, Minnie and Goofy flying overhead, Minnie sitting on a bench next to you, and many more. You can also get a PP card for each person in your group, if you all plan to split up, and then collect all the cards at the end of the trip and enter in all the numbers to your PP account so the photos will be on one CD. Sometimes characters are hanging around the parks with a PP photographer in tow, so look for those. During the holidays, there are special PhotoPass opportunities.

Now, you have a few choices - Option One is that if you do not wish to buy the CD, you can just order individual prints of the photos you like. You can go onto your PP account and add in special effects and Disney borders, make black and white pictures, zoom in or out, crop, etc. Each copy of the photo is saved as well as the original, so you can literally get dozens of versions of the same photos onto one CD.

Option Two would be that you could stop by one of the photo-viewing shops in either DL or DCA and view your pictures there, onsite. You cannot add any effects or borders to them that way, but if you need to buy the CD on the spot, you can do it there.

Option Three - the most popular way is to collect all the cards and create your online PP account when you get home and edit your pictures how you wish, and then order the CD, which costs $59.95 plus $7.00 shipping (for U.S. orders; a bit higher for international orders). Then you have the rights to do whatever you wish with those photos from there on out, and can copy them or have them printed for eternity. You can share them, Photoshop them, whatever, as long as you buy the CD.

Once you get home form DLR, you have 30 days to create an online account. Once you do, you have another 30 days to actually make a purchase before they delete your photos. So you are basically looking at 2 months to view, edit and share the photos (there is an e-mail "Share" option so you can send smaller versions of the photos to your friends and family).

PhotoPass is a really good thing to use as a back-up for our own picture-taking, along with the benefit of getting all the magic shots. There are always times when a battery might die or a picture doesn't come out as well as you thought it might, so PhotoPass is a great way to have back-up photos with everyone in your party included in them, so no one has to be left out while taking the photo! They will also take pictures with your camera, but without the magic shots. Plus, it is just fun to take silly pictures in wacky poses!

I've known about this site less then a week and Im already addicted. But at the same time Im thrilled. I would have spent alot of money at the park on pictures if I didn't know about the photopass. and since Im a single mom I rarely get pictures of my daughter and I together in special places, so this really makes me happy

I learned everything I know about PhotoPass (and other Disney subjects) on this site too! In fact, I cringe when I think of the trips I made in 2007 without using PhotoPass. It would have really come in handy then. But I made up for it in 2008!

It will be great to use for you and your daughter! You will have a lot of fun editing the pictures online when you get home and experimenting with all the different borders. And it will be a blast getting all the magic shots and making silly faces and standing in ridiculous poses! It has brought out the inner child in some of my friends who were afraid to act wacky in pictures. Now we just go up to the PP photographer and say, "Okay...make us do silly things...we are your subjects! We will do whatever you need us to do!" If they see that you are willing to let loose and be silly, then you can get a LOT of great shots that show how much fun you are having!

If you have a Disney Visa, there's a free meet and greet for cardholders in DCA every day from 10:30am to 12:00pm. They'll give you a voucher for a free 5x7 photo from that character meet and greet. Most of the time they'll let you use it on any PhotoPass picture, but be aware that is not official policy. The free 5x7 photo must be picked up in the parks and is not available online.

I also recommend viewing your photos in the parks before you depart. This can allow you to make sure a shot isn't missing and makes it easier for them to find a missing picture because you can easily describe the shot that is missing and who's in it, etc. Viewing the photos in the park does not activate the 30 day window Sherry E referenced above.

Do you mean you don't use the borders and enhancements and edits on the PhotoPass website at all (because you order the CD before you get home), or do you just not have too many photos to edit normally and you do it on a computer right there at the hotel before you leave?

That would never work for me. I definitely like to get home and go on the PhotoPass site and take my time with the editing and enhancements, using their borders and effects, and then buy the CD. I turned 97 pictures last year into 300 pictures, and there is no way I could have done that in one night. I had to spend the time doing it over a week or two.

I agree with Sherry E(I got it right this time ) about ordering from home. There are a lot of different border and enhancement options especially if you go during holiday times such as Halloween, Christmas, and even Valentine's Day.

I don't know if I'd use the PhotoPass service all that often if they didn't offer the borders and enhancements because that's what makes it such a great service for me.

For instance, Mickey has always been my favorite character so I was really excited to see him on my birthday. This is the picture taken with my camera.

Now, here's just one of the many enhancements I made of the PhotoPass version of the same picture.

I've also found that sometimes the character handler using my camera takes one picture, while the PhotoPass photographer takes at least 2-3 (and sometimes more) pictures of the moment.

Sherry E, I know what you mean. I just spent two weeks editing my PhotoPass pictures - zooming and adding borders. I have a question about the CD. Once I have the CD, I know I have the rights to the photos and I can make as many prints as I want. I get prints from Walgreens online all the time. Can Walgreens make prints of pictures with the special borders?

Yes, they can. Disney will give you the copyright release granting you permission to print the photos. If Walgreens refuses to print the PhotoPass pics, they are in the wrong.

In fact now, instead of just needing to print the Copyright Release from your disc, they do still have a jpg of it on the disc, but they also have a "fancy" instruction and Copyright Release booklet spelling it out in official Disney-ese with official Disney Photopass "art" on it. Very official looking for those confused photo printing people (I've heard that Walmart can be very dense about it...a Walmart in Alberta once kept a friend from making prints of pictures that SHE had taken then edited using photoshop, saying that they were too professional and they were going to KEEP her CD or memory stick (can't remember which) b/c she was trying to steal another photographer's work...she got the media away from them and printed it, and the rest of her pictures forevermore, elsewhere).


Sherry, I always thought we were the same person! Except for the much more exciting 80s you had, your proximity to DLR, and that whole tact/diplomacy thing that you have but I lack entirely, LOL.

We have gotten the CD from to WDW and DL. I always look at it after our trip online because I would rather spend the time in the park. There are usually only a few pictures that we really want but by the time we add those up you might as well buy the cd.

One other thing if you really dont want to spend the $$ on the photopass CDs, we always have the picture person take a picture of the same shot with our camera they are always "happy" to do that too. But its fun to get the Disney Photo with the enhanced Tinker added to the shot -our 2 year old loves to look at the picture of her holding Tinkers - its priceless!

Can Walgreens make prints of pictures with the special borders?

Oh I meant to talk about that. While you're going through, editing things, be sure to save each picture you make in any size you might think you would get. If you take your time and look around, you'll see that you can take the picture you just edited and change it to "wallet", 4x6, 5x7, 8x10...I always try to save it in 16x20 but it just reverts to 8x10 which I suppose makes sense but it would be nice to have the wording match up... Each time you change it, Save that "as a copy". That way you can order the correct one (though I haven't ordered any prints online so I don't know how you figure out which one is which) for the correct print, and you don't get things cut off.

Thanks for the tip, bumbershoot. I was going to town editing my pictures and adding borders, but I didn't pay attention to what size they were being saved in. I'll go back and re-save in the correct size.

I bought the CD one time, but I never found a place that didn't give me serious trouble with making prints. Even with the release they give you. I thought I was going to be able to just walk up to one of those machines and make tons of 5x7's. So now I only buy the prints from the website. I can still make them all pretty with all the decorations, and just order what I need.

Happy me - the PhotoPass card I was given at the beginning of July gives me $10 off when I buy my CD online. So only $49.95 and I get all my pictures.

True, but what good is it if I can't make any prints? I have a scanner, so once I get the prints I just scan them. I wish I could get prints easily, I'm disappointed that you can't. Now I have a $60 CD that I don't use. With a lot of prints I'd love to have in frames around my house.

I'm curious if anyone's found a place that will do it, without giving a lot of grief?
