"Hello? I'm in the Carousel of Progress.."*UD1/13pg74"All Good Things...*

I am SO with you on the Tiki Birds!! I HATE it!
Why is the line for Aladdin so short and Dumbo always so long??

I'm glad you got your picture!!! Some people are so rude!!!

Wow, you husband lets you vent?? he's a real keeper!

Cute about Jonah waiting to see the princesses with you!

I like the hidden Mickey on Jeff's hat!

Good to have a plan to catch Tink flying!

UGH!! Those birds! LOL!

Why is the line for Aladdin so short and Dumbo always so long??

Good Question!! :confused3

I'm glad you got your picture!!! Some people are so rude!!!

Oh well...I got my picture. It's a shame though that people can be so inconsiderate.

Wow, you husband lets you vent?? he's a real keeper!

Yeah..I'll hold on to him for a while!

Cute about Jonah waiting to see the princesses with you!

He was a real trooper! I'm so glad he did it then because it may never happen again and I at least have those pictures and memories!

I like the hidden Mickey on Jeff's hat!

That's my favorite thing about it!

Good to have a plan to catch Tink flying!

I wasn't missing her this trip!

Awww, I'm a big sap like that too!

:sad1: LOL!

you had a busy day!

VERY! But so fun!

I love ToT

One of the best!

I love High schoool Musical too!

What team? WILDCATS!!

Love your TR!!!

Thank you so much! I just clicked on the link in you signature and read about your beautiful baby boys. I am so sorry for your loss, that must have been a very difficult time for you. What a wonderful tribute you wrote.

Yay! What a fun update! Can't wait to read the rest of your DHS day!

TSM was really great...I just wish I wasn't so terrible at it!! :rolleyes1

The last time we were at DHS, the HSM show was different so it was fun to see the new one. GO WILDCATS!

Just so I don’t forget to say it later, the weather has been absolutely perfect! We wake up each morning and I check the forecast to see nothing but 80's and sunshine! NICE!
:thumbsup2 I just love spring down here! Too bad it only lasts about 3 weeks.

I had done lots of research on whether to ride first, then get FP’s or vice versa. Our thought was that by riding first, we at least got ONE ride. If the line to get FP’s was crazy or they were gone when we got off the ride, we had not missed out. SO....that was our strategy and we were sticking to it! ;)
That's been my approach so far, too. It works fairly well, so I'm afraid to mess with it and try anything else, lol!
Did we enjoy the new version? Were we able to meet any characters? Do we EVER get to ride RnRC??

Those crowds do look pretty big. So far it sounds like your plan is working though. We love DHS. We usually spend at least a day and a half there. I have never seen any of the High School Musical movies. Maybe I should watch them sometime.

Both of our family trips have been in late April/ early May and the weather has been amazing!

I'm glad we did TSM the way we did. The standby line later in the day was 90 minutes. I'm not sure any ride is worth an hour and a half wait!

Yeah...having a plan definitely was the key. With only one day to spend at DHS you need it!

Do you like other musicals?? I tend to like them anyway, so HSM wasn't really a stretch for me. The songs are really catchy and I love the message of the movies about being who you are....great for a mom who is trying to teach that to 3 boys! :thumbsup2

Aww, thanks. It was hard, yet helpful to write it out.

I fell in love with TSM, too. It's awesome, whether you're a video gamer or not. That's fun that the whole family was able to ride ToT this time! It's quite scarier nowadays :scared1: but still great.

Glad you got to sit down and watch the HSM show! I am familiar with it only because of the kids at my preschool, but the songs are catchy, yes.

Sounds like a great start to your DHS day!

I'm so glad you enjoyed TSM! I'm excited to ride it my next trip. And your DH is too sweet for stopping and letting you enjoy the High School Musical show. :goodvibes

Hi D! It's so fun now that all the boys are tall enough to ride the "big" rides. The family that screams together...!

Yep...he's a keeper! :lovestruc

How is it that I've read your last update (like twice now...LOL) and could have sworn I responded....weird. :confused3

Anyways....sounds like a great DHS day so far! Rope drop pics are always crazy looking, aren't they? We managed to get on TSM twice back in October, by going right at RD and getting a FP but not riding standby (instead the crew that wanted to go on RNRC went over there at RD while I grabbed the FPs), then at the window opening of the 1st one (right at 9:50) we grabbed another set (which was for 2:30 I believe)....then we were eligible for another FP for something else 2 hours later - right around noon. It worked out pretty good, but only if you are planning on sticking around that area to grab another set right at your window opening time as they get pushed back soooo fast!!! We went over to ride GMR in between while we were waiting for the RNRC crew! Downside of that is we didn't get to see the standby queue of TSM, but I was ok with that! LOL!

That's very sweet that your boys indulged your HSM fan status and let you watch! Yay for them! (I've only ever seen the 1st one, but I am a BIG musical fan, so I completely understand...)

Ok, I'm all caught up....feel free to continue....:snooty: :rolleyes1

Sara

Okay, I just want to say, I haven't read ANYTHING yet. I'm still in the middle of your PTR (on page 10 or so) and I intend to read the whole thing before I come over to read the TR, so it may take me a little while. ;)

I am really enjoying the PTR, but it's making me crazy that I go to answer a question or respond to something, only to realize you've been back from your trip for two months! :rotfl:

You are giving me a TON of ideas, though. We're taking three boys ourselves in September (two are actually ours, one we claim some of the time, but he actually belongs to our friends). They will be 7,7, and 4. I love the Disney box idea (and the shoe holder idea-I think we have one around here somewhere), and I LOVE the lanyards with the stuff hanging off of them. I am even going to copy your idea for around the neck sunglass holders that I saw on your youngest DS in one of the pictures. We are staying at POR with a group of 5 so I'm especially watching your suggestions for that (like the soap holder). My DH and I have been a ton of times, but never for this long and never with kids old enough to actually do (almost) everything.

I can't wait to see what actually happened on your trip. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled program. Hopefully I'll be over here soon!

That sounds like a great TSM strategy! Cool that you got to ride twice as well! The queue was cute, but the ride is what it's all about!

I love me a good musical! ;)

How did you know I was waiting for you to respond before I moved on?? New update coming right up! :)

Hurry up and get through that PTR so you can come over here and enjoy the trip! :welcome:

When I left off, we had just finished watching the HSM 3 show (W-I-L-D, WILDCATS!) and narrowly avoided a lost wallet tragedy. We were continuing to make our way to the next stop on our touring plan....the Magic of Disney Animation Tour.

Jeff and I went to WDW on our honeymoon in 1992, I know, that was a LONG time ago. We’re old...technically, but you’re only as old as you feel! :) In 1992, MGM Studios (as it was called then) was the newest of the Disney parks. It joined Epcot and the Magic Kingdom....Animal Kingdom was still just a great idea waiting to be born! At the time, MGM was a working studio. I remember doing the Animation Tour then and being able to see actual artists working on movies in production. It was very cool! The new Magic of Disney Animation Tour is more movie and less tour. The movie and informational presentation were very cute, mind you. Who doesn’t love Mushu causing a little trouble? BUT....I did miss being able to see the “real” thing.

After the movie, you move into a large area with some interactive activities and character Meet and Greet opportunities. Jonah wanted to meet Bolt and Rhino...we had just seen the movie Bolt before we left for vacation....so I jumped in line with him. The other boys were more interested in the interactive games so they went off with Jeff to play. The line for Bolt was deceiving! It wound around behind the Meet and Greet area and moved very, very slowly. :rolleyes1 Bolt and Rhino were taking a lot of time with each child, which was great, but made for a long wait for the rest of us! At one point the handlers said that the characters were going to take a break then be back. I gave Jonah the choice to wait....we literally had NOT moved in the time we had been in line....or give it up and try to see Mickey and maybe the Incredibles instead. He opted for choice number 2, so we hopped out of line and went to find the rest of the family. Jeff took these pictures of Bolt and Rhino between kids!

The older boys were still playing with the cool stuff.....I really didn’t see all of it, but there were computers everywhere and you could do fun stuff like animate your own characters, do voice-overs, etc. I spent my time in line with Jonah! Dan and Isaiah were occupied so Jonah and I got in the short line to see Sorcerer Mickey.

Here are the PhotoPass pictures.

This one is my favorite....I love how they are so intense!

After autographs and pictures with the Big Cheese himself, I wanted to head over to where the Incredibles were doing a Meet and Greet. They were just scheduled to come out and I wanted to jump in line before it got too long. Success! :thumbsup2 There were only 2 people ahead of us! Unfortunately there were no PhotoPass photographers here so we were on our own. At one point, Mr. Incredible and Jonah did a cute little “pose-off”, but, unfortunately, Jeff was holding the camera and was so into watching the interaction that he didn’t take pictures of it. UGH! This was not the only time this happened...stay tuned! Anyway...he did manage to get this really cute one! (Love you Honey!)

Here are a couple more from our “Incredible” meet and greet!

Once we were finished visiting the characters, Jonah wanted a chance to do some of the interactive activities, so we hung out a bit and let him do that. Jeff liked the voice-over one...Iago was the director and he gave you the dialogue to a scene, then you voiced the words as you watched the character onscreen. At the end, it played the clip back with your voice. VERY COOL! Here’s Jeff working on his voice-over debut!

ThursdayDHS--Disney200926.jpg

I’m not exactly sure what this one was, but it looks like some sort of touch screen where you get to color in a character. They all liked this one.
ThursdayDHS--Disney200925.jpg

The cool air conditioning of this building was nice, but we had been in here a long time now and I was getting antsy to move on. Our window to get new FP’s was now open so I wanted to head over to RnRC to pick some up for later. Begrudgingly, we headed out of the Animation building. I asked the boys about doing the drawing class earlier, but they really showed no interest. I am a terrible artist...I can barely do stick figures! It looked cool as we walked by on our way out, but no takers this time.

It was now about noon and the park was really getting crowded. It was very obvious on Sunset Boulevard heading toward TOT and RnRC. It was really shoulder to shoulder the entire way there. In all of our 10 day vacation, this day was the only day the crowds made us feel uncomfortable. Navigating through them with 5 of us was tedious and time consuming. Needless to say, Jeff HATED it! I’m not sure if the crowds were so bad because it was a Fantasmic! day or because this park just doesn’t handle the masses well because of its layout, but whatever it was....it was not good. :scared1: The crowds don’t tend to bother me, but even I noticed how difficult it was to get from place to place. YIKES!

We finally managed to get ourselves to the RnRC Fastpass machine and got our FP’s. Our return time wasn’t until 4:00...at noon! I told you it was crowded! Oh well...we press on!

Lunch is calling our names so we make the decision to try the Backlot Express for our meal. We had eaten at ABC Commissary our last trip and were not impressed, so we hoped for better luck this time!

We had learned by now, that it was WAY easier to order if only one person went to the register and ordered for everyone. I took to writing down what each person wanted, from beverage to dessert, and being ready to just rattle it all off when asked. The CM’s seemed to appreciate this and it definitely made the process faster! We all got Double Cheeseburgers and fries except Jonah who got Chicken Nuggets. I got a very delicious chocolate cheesecake for dessert! The burgers were ok...pretty standard park fare, but not bad. Jeff had found us a nice table outside under the awning. We were right behind the Indiana Jones Stunt Show and could hear the action and the audience. Pretty cool! At this point, we had been eating at WDW for 4 days and we kept telling the boys to make smart choices concerning beverages etc. We urged them to get water or juice instead of soda for each meal...I know we’re on vacation, but your body can only handle so much before it begins to rebel. Keep that in mind for later! Isaiah and Jonah were doing well, but Dan was not so good at heeding good advice...it may come back to bite him later!

With our tummies full and FP’s in hand for both TSM and RnRC, our next stop was the 1:20 show of Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show. We had finished up our lunch in perfect time to head over to the stadium and find our seats. START YOUR ENGINES!! :car:

Hi Missy!! I love that you & Jeff got in on the character pictures!! That's something Tim & I didn't do and I regret! Oh well... there's always next time, right? :confused3

Sounds like a busy day at DHS - I'm guessing that it was from Fantasmic! because we had some very quiet non-F! days just a few days after you...

If it helps, Grumpy and I were married in 1993 LOL When I was 18yo, a friend and I went to MGM Studios for half a day. I, too, remember walking through the Animation Studio and watching the artists at work (when we were there, the animators were drawing The Little Mermaid - yes, THAT is how long it has been since I've been there (other than last year, of course lol)).

Bolt and Rhino are so cute! :goodvibes

That's a fun show! The seats aren't terribly comfortable, but the show is pretty entertaining! Big bangs, loud vehicles and bursts of fire equal happy boys, right? :rotfl:

Another great update, Missy!!!:thumbsup2I love all the Meet and Greet pictures!!!:goodvibes My boys enjoyed the interactive activities in the Animation building also. Great idea on only sending one person up to order with what everyone wants on a piece of paper. Just think how quickly the lines would move if everyone did that.;)

Awww... love it!! It's so magical when the characters "play" with the kids!! :wizard:

Bolt sure was popular! I don't care how long the line is; I'm going to see the UP characters!!! I love that movie!

Ick...crowds! I'm seriously thinking about avoiding Fantasmic days if they mean lots of :crowded: Poor Jeff, you told us how he hates crowds!!

I just know your crew is going to love LMA... it's testosterone heaven!! :rotfl:

great update! We enjoy eating at backlot express...we actually are going to be taking a impromptu trip to disney for a weekend here in a few weeks. We expect it to be hot and crowded, but its just an extra trip for us as we've already been this yr. Dh is going to the mayo clinic in jacksonville and he said he isn't going to be that close to disney and not go. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to hear more!

When I got back from our 2007 trip I realized that I was not in a single photo with a character. :sad2: It was my goal this time not to let that happen again! :thumbsup2

I think you are right about F! causing the crowds. Although DHS has never been an easy park to navigate, this was a whole different ball game!

I hated it when my boys were little and asked me to draw something for them! They could probably have done a better job on their own!

I agree! :scared1:

Definitely would help the congestion at the register!

I was glad we slowed down a bit this year and took the time to enjoy the interactive stuff at the end of attractions...we did at Mission Space, Spaceship Earth, and other places as well!

Awww... love it!! It's so magical when the characters "play" with the kids!! :wizard:

It really is magical...it gives me the 'warm fuzzies' just looking at it! :cloud9:
