DVC Member Burnout?

Although I've only been a DVC member since 2007, I've been visiting Disneyland since 1968 and Disney World since 1971. My family currently visits a Disney park 6 or 7 times a year. We live in North Carolina so we help keep the airlines in business! Here is my question: Are there any DVC members here who joined and simply got burned out on Disney and no longer had the desire to visit? I'm 45 years old and plan to use every year of my SSR contract. If I can't walk in the years to come, I'll rent the electric scooter and enjoy the magic! :lmao:

Our family had grown in the 6 years we've been members. I'm 62 and love taking our DGC and extended family and I'm doing it while I can enjoy it. Here's hoping I last! DMom came when she was 85, we had a great party for her, and she came 3 times when she was 86 (once we had a party for DAunt who was 80 that year), but her days of enjoying WDW are behind her. It's not just physical, she walks better than I do, she's failing mentally, so all I can say, is enjoy it while you can! Our DAunt who's now 83 won't be coming any more either, she couldn't cope with it, yet at 80 she was great!

I'll be 95 in 2042 when most of our points expire, I have no idea what life will be like then!

Bobbi-I will be 90 when my SSR contract expires and I'm already stressing about what to do if I don't receive a 15 year extension offer! :rotfl2:

I think the greatest factor are the changes that the DVC and Disney continue to make. When the magic goes away, why bother going to Disney. Over the last several years Disney continues to make changes that the regulars notice. Cut backs on almost everything, food, Cast Members, maintenance, merchandise, transportation and shows. One would hope that this is a temporary thing, but it doesn't look like it. :sad2:

Everything goes through cycles and I believe Disney is doing some restructuring to survive this economical situation. I remember when Disneyland took a negative turn several years ago but Matt Ouimet came in and fixed the problems which resulted in record breaking attendance and profits at the resort. In time, I believe the "magic" will return to its full force and be stronger than ever.

That's the spirit!!!

Actually - we did kind of WDW out. We've been spending time in Vero Beach and we're very happy there. This fall we are going back to WDW to experience AKV Kidani. We haven't been there since last April. I hope there is something new there for us. For a while there, between soarin' and expedition everest, it seemed like a good idea to go frequently. But not so lately.

I'm sorry - can you enlighten me on this term you use, "Disney burnout?" ;)

If anything, my passion for WDW gets worse with each passing year. Even if I never stepped foot inside a park, I could go to WDW, stay in a DVC property, and have a terrific time.

Just like humans and families, Disney has good days and bad days - even, perhaps, good years and bad years. I'd just say right now things at WDW are reflecting the state of things, specifically the economy, as a whole. I don't believe we're stuck in the doldrums forever. For the life of me, I read other folks' posts about how awful things are, and just remind myself that so much of it is subjective. To me, your Disney experience is made up in large part of the attitude of your mind and heart. You get out of a Disney vacation what you take into it, methinks.

Still, honest evaluation and helpful critiques are good things.

I have to work really hard to be a cynic; I guess that's a flaw I need to work on ... sometimes I feel so out of place, being an optimist and all.

I wondered about this for my kids and did not want to ever hear "we're going to WDW-DVC again-big deal..." So, we try to stay at a different DVC resort each time--I love that you can call up at 7 months and try something new with little hassle. Each DVC resort feels like a totally different trip. Plus, there is so much to do--rent boats, horseback riding, water parks, etc. We have been going 2-3X year for the past 5+ years and are loving it! Our Easter trip was so busy, we only went into the parks for 1 day. have fun. Elaine

We kind of get that way every once in a while. When we do, we own other timeshares so we mix up our trips. That helps a lot.

We may skip renewing our Disney annual passes next year. I think we are going to do a trip to Williamsburg, VA, and Hilton Head, SC, instead and stay at Marriott Vacation Club and only do one Orlando DVC trip next year to let us take a break from Disney.

My kids are sick of Disneyland and WDW, but that doesn't stop DW and I. We just leave them at home now that they are both college age.

I can say for sure that I won't get burned out - to me the magic is in the people who make the experience come together. Whether we visit park or just enjoy the resort we're at - I'm happy.

Both my boys love Disney and I can't see that ever changing.

My daughter (15), however, hates disney. I think it has to do with the fact that anything I take a liking to she feels she is obligated to detest. :headache:

TOTALLY AGREE.......Semper FI!

I hope I never get burned out. I was worried about my 15 year old. After our Jan. trip he claimed for 3 or so months that he really didn't want to go back in July...................HOWEVER he is BACK ON BOARD NOW. WOOOHOOOO. I think there is so much that WDW offers that as we continue going ...our trips will change. We already enjoy less park time and more resort time. We are starting a nice summer tradition now and we have some great friends who are also DVC members and we are enjoying planning trips together and DVC offers so much more than just going to WDW too. I am already kinda looking ahead to a Disney Land trip in the next couple of years. I feel like WE ARE JUST BEGINNING SOME WONDERFUL VACATIONS THROUGH OUR DVC MEMBERSHIP. :cool1: I am looking forward to visiting other place besides WDW in the future. Our membership will allow for us to do that.

DH and I would definitely burnout if we were doing 6 or 7 trips per year like the OP. We have averaged one or two trips per year since joining in 2002. We have reached the point where we are considering not renewing our annual passes when we go in January and just do a no parks vacation. Maybe by January though, we will feel differently and be ready for the parks again.

I hope we never get to that stage but we did consider it when we made our purchase. The saving grace for me was the other places you can stay with your points. I kind of recognized that staying outside the World on points is not always the best deal in comparison to the DVC resorts, but even if you stay at a 4/5 star hotel for 2 nights twice a year, (probably be somewhere in the $400-500 range per night) it is still less than the maintenance fee. My aunt and uncle are long time owners (15+) and they still love it; they just scaled back on park-commando and check out other stuff.

The thing I do worry about is that our DS14 gets sick of it/takes it for granted. I just feel that there is so much variety there that so long as you switch it up a little each year, a new experience can be had and the magic can be sustained. This year, he met some boys from our area and has already hung out with them since we have been back. He considered this past trip his "best one ever." That really made us feel great, and reinforce that our DVC membership is worth it!

We have gone 6 times in the last 4 years, which isn't a lot compared to many on this board. We are finding new things on each trip to love. Our kids are young. They are 6, 3.5 and 6months old. As they get older, their interests will change and we will move on to different activities.
We are going again in Jan since I have a conference then. We are thinking about taking a couple of years off and going to HHI for the next 2 summers. If we go back to WDW in a few years, our two oldest will be out of strollers and our youngest will be 3sh so we will be able to do a lot more at the parks. We went last month, and it was a lot of work lugging all the kids around. It was still fun, just a lot of work. We're looking forward to the days when our kids are old enough to walk on their own and we don't have all of their gear to drag around.

That's the nice thing about DVC though, we can mix things up with a beach trip, go to WDW, hang at the hotel, and in a couple of years even go to HI. Even if you don't trade out, their are still a lot of great options.

This trip has been different from our past trips. We used to get up early and head to the EMH park to ride for three or four hours and then go back to the resort for a nap and a swim. Then back to another park in the evening.

This trip we have been sleeping in and going to the water parks when they open at 10AM, staying until about 3 and then hitting a park for an hour or two. We've done fewer park hours on this trip.

Like today, we got up about 9 and I had three hours at the SSR Spa while the guys swam at SSR then headed to Disney Quest. They came back to pick me up at 2:00, then I ate at CBR and we headed back to the villa. But then I took them to SSR spa for them to get the Men's Facial (which they both loved by the way - we spent waaaaaayyy tooooo much money at the Spa today). We headed over to Epcot about 7, ate dinner at Nine Dragons (which was way better than in the past) and then did Soarin'. Walked back to the BCV and I'm watching TV and they have gone down to SAB to swim.

Tomorrow, as long as it's not raining, we'll head to TL again in the morning.

Depending on what you do, can really add/subtract to the burnout of Disney. There are things there that DW and I really enjoy. TSM is a main attraction to us! No two rides are ever the same and we are very competitive.

I don't see it as going to Disney again. I see it as enjoying the company of my wife and kids with millions of options!
