The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Charlene, you are doing great at keeping up, we know we are not easy!!

Sheryl, what a wonderful trip. Great stress relief for you and Bob.

Becky & John, Happy Anniversary!!

Laura, :cheer2: Congrats to Liam! My DH would be a bit upset if his sandwich was missing meat too!:rotfl:

Nancy, so glad to see you got in on the October trip too!:woohoo:

Maria, has she checked in since her weekend away?

Gretchen, sending prayers still for your Dad, try to rest my friend.

Vickie, enjoy that warmth! Stilling sending recovery wishes over to you!

Aimee, great news for you at work with the new pastor, hope all works out.

Kathy, thanks for the well wishes for Ron. You do a great job keeping everything in order on here. You amaze me.

Great Food Porn photos all!!!!

WFD- making a couple of changes...we are still having chicken but I wanted
fresh corn on the cobb and lemon/pepper asparagus on the grill.

Kathy, we are going back to the Caribbean. Same island as always!

I'm sooooo jealous!;)

I told Alexis that we're going to Disney on Thursday. She said " I'm so excited!!! I can't believe my Uncle Bobby is doing this JUST FOR ME!!!" :lmao: Oh yeah, the world according to Alexis! It has nothing to do with Uncle Bob being totally stressed out at work the last few weeks. ;)

We haven't gone during the summer in at least 10 years. I'm sure we'll end up spending a lot of time out by the pool. That should be nice since every other trip we've pushed it getting in SAB & the water has always been freezing. Should be nice! DH was also able to get the Princess breakfast! He is on a roll today! :cloud9:

She's a smart girl, it is all about her!

We probably won't be doing any of the sit downs or Jellyrolls.... I'm hoping for Jiko or Boma though....Rick's not really a table service kind of guy but I made him promise on one of those for while we're there- I've been dying to try them.

We're going back to JIKO in October, it's AWESOME!:goodvibes

Lori Congrats to the newlyweds:lovestruc

Sheryl I hope your I mean Alexis's trip is great

Vickie We could use some of that warm. We have an abundance of rain and temps in the 70's

Gretchen I hope your dad is better.

Becky Congrats on your Anniversary

Laura Congrats to Liam :cheer2:

Ann How was Ron's first day?

Ellen The strawberry dessert sounds very good.

Alex's non graduation recognition night is Wednesday though he still goes to school until the 10th:confused3. He said they are practicing for the recognition night :confused3:confused3 your name is called you stand up then sit down:rolleyes1,but remember this is not a graduation.:upsidedow

I can't believe it, I was able to get Yachtsmen, FF & Cali Grill adr's for this weekend!!!:dance3::yay: The Good Lord must be looking out for us!

We've never been to CG so I'm excited but did I make a mistake booking Cali Grill with a 6 yo? She's good and has been to both of the other rests at 4 & 5.

Congrats! Heck no you didn't make a mistake booking CG with Alexis, it's loud in there, she'll be just fine. You have to try the sushi!!!!!

Oooh, I almost forgot! I made these YUMMY orange freeze drinks last night (and no, they weren't WW friendly...). They tasted remarkably similar to Orange Julius and very refreshing!

1 scoop vanilla ice cream
3 scoop orange sherbet (I used fat free... I get credit for that, right?)
1/4 liter lemon lime soda (I used diet... credit again, right?)
Handful of ice

Blend it up and stick a straw in it! I doubled it and it made two overflowing glasses for us.

Y'all aren't going to believe this, cause I'm in shock myself. DH booked BCV for Thursday. This Thursday!! 3 nights, just us & we're taking Alexis. At first I was thrilled, but now I'm sort of freaking out. Airfare is $354 each, so I guess we're driving. I've got a lot to get done!

:cool1::cool1:

I think I am going to be in trouble with Greg on dinner tonight. I am just making sandwiches, and I was planning to make Greg an Italian meat sandwich...the only problem is, he has eaten all of the Italian meats! Now, he is going to be stuck with my vegetarian pan bagnat.

Poor guy!!

Kathy, we are going back to the Caribbean. Same island as always!

take me with you!!

Sorry I didn't get back earlier, but I am officially an step-mother-in-law...even have the shirt to proove it! Rick's son Nick got married Friday night! The silly kids got us all matching shirts that say "mother of the bride" "mother of the groom" and all that...and bless their hearts they think I'm skinnier than I am...:rotfl2:

Congrats!!!

That means take it easy! Hope today is better for you.

I'm good, it's gone today. It was fine when I was eating or drinking something but within a short period of time after I was done it started bothering me. It happens occasionally and usually just bothers me for a couple hours. Not sure what caused, usually it is too much dairy too fast, like those really yummy milkshakes from Chick-fil-A. :cloud9:I have a tendancy to drink them way too fast. But although I did have a Wendy's Frosty on Saturday I hadn't had any dairy yesterday.

The buns are these new super thin buns that Arnold makes. They only have 100 calories, and they are pretty good!

Today is my wedding anniversary. 12 years of marriage, though we've been together for 17 years. I am going to try and leave early to make us a good dinner. I bought some lamb chops for John and have some fresh tagilatelle that I think I am going to do in a mushroom-arugula-cream sauce. Probably a salad also, and some grilled bread.

Happy Anniversary!

I really like those rolls too.

She'll be fine. :thumbsup2

I think dinner tonight will be grilled chicken, corn and more pasta salad. Going to add some goat cheese to it I think. I meant to do that last night but forgot.

Sounds like graduation to me!!!

Janice, thanks for asking... his first day went pretty well. He was really excited for change after 28 years of the same routine working road construction. Right now he is going through the boring training phase, and can't wait to get out there on his own.

Sheryl I am so excited for you!! What great ADRs! WE love the CG but have not been since DS was born. My recommendations for food are the flatbread and the pork tenderloin. Enjoy, Alexis is going to love the view and like someone said it is a noisy place so no worries.

Thanks y'all! :goodvibes I'm happy to hear that CG is loud, for some reason I had an idea it was a high-falutin snooty kind of place. :confused3 Alexis seemed not so thrilled when I told her I had three fancy places booked. She was hoping for more character stuff, but I couldn't get anything else.

Lori, Congrats on joining the MOTHER-IN-LAW Ranks! Congratulations to the Newlyweds too! What do you mean, be careful? :confused3 The drive? I won't be heavily imbibing on this trip, I have the kiddo to take care of & you won't be there to lead me into bars!;)

Lori- congratulations! You are going to be a great MIL!

Janice- It is a big deal to Alex though, isn't it? I like all of the end of year activities but I did not always understand them ;)

Sheryl- You will be fine at YS and CG. Kady likes both, they are kid friendly, have good children's selections and the food is :thumbsup2 CG is noisy!

Charlene- great recap! I never get it all in so I am really impressed!

I agree that Kat is amazing keeping the thread and all the recipes and us organized!

Dinner was pretty good. It was salsa chicken. I let BL SL chicken thighs marinate in salsa and then baked them at 375 for 30 minutes. Topped with green onions and some veggie topping and baked 5 more minutes. Served over mashed potatoes along side green beans and with a salad.

The reviews suggested mozzerella cheese instead of Parmesan but I stuck with the original.

Nana proud moment! TOday was "CARING" Day in school, each classroom had one child the the teacher selected to recieve this award and certificate in an asembley. Kady was the child from her class and the teacher wrote that she always looked after her classmates, making sure that no one ever got left out and that she always treated her classmates with respect and empathy. Her friend Miranda got the award in her class so they were very happy!

Marissa/Nancy you must be very proud of Kady. One of Alex's teacher told me that empathy is learned in the home it can't be taught.

Nancy Alex is very excited to be moving on to high school. I'm just confused why they are treating it like a graduation but making a big thing about not calling it a graduation. You should see the sheet they sent home :headache: I think it should be celebrated since a lot of these kids will only have this "graduation" to look back on. I think things got confused when it became "middle school and not jr high. I don't know if I'm making sense.

Maybe she's trying to scare you from moving down here?:lmao:

It wouldn't be the first time....and I'm sure it won't be the last either....

19 more days....and she has the nerve to ask me to help do lesson planning for next year. Uh, NO! I wonder if she wants me to add hurricane education to the curriculum?!? The most bizarre part is that she has a poster hanging in her office that has a picture of a hurricane on it and says "hurricane education". The whole thing is getting a weebit freaky. :scared:

We had Wendy's for dinner. The original plan was not to have Wendy's. I was hoping for Quizno's or Olive Garden. But instead we went to Wendy's. We had to run some errands down in the city. We went to the Post Office and FedEx and we wanted to go to Honda but they close too early. :headache: So we got Wendy's and then walked around Central Park for a while...from 59th to about 74th and back down to 59th. And that was after walking to 59th from 51st. I think we walked 2+ miles.

Let's see if FedEx can handle getting mail from Point A (NYC) to Point B (NOLA) without issues. :headache: (They BETTER...they're way more expensive...)

NANCY- I cheated and took notes!;) congrats for Kadys certificate !

SHERYL- We loved California Grill and there were alot of other children there enjoy the fireworks great viewing !:thumbsup2

KATHY-Hope you feel better

TheBeadPirate- I will be staying at Kidani in August can't wait !
Kidani - a cruise - Dolphin wow! Enjoy!

BIGMERLE- I use to put goat cheese in my salad but then my son found out what it was and that was the end of that.

I love the shirts idea...but thats me anything to draw a look !! :rolleyes1

Oh and we need pictures.:)

So glad youse got good ADR's :cheer2:

We are lookin for new place to eat this trip so I'll be very interested in Alexis's review of Cali Grill.

A friend of mine called yesterday to make hers but coundnt get a couple she wanted. Then while on the line the system crashed and the girl had to phone her back. When she called back she said all the ressies made in the morning had been lost so my friend got every one she wanted. She was obviously delighted but Im guessing there are some not so happy lassies oot there !!

Oh well..as my na -na used to say " nae loss whit a freend gits "

Nancy I think it should be celebrated since a lot of these kids will only have this "graduation" to look back on.

That is a great point, and I totally agree.

So we got Wendy's and then walked around Central Park for a while...

Sad I know but I would LOVE to do that !!

I WILL get to one day..........I will,I will,I will !!

Its another beautiful day here.

Im really not complaining coz this could very probly be Scotland's summer, dont blink or youse might miss it !!

Hey you all. I've been reading, but have been on the laptop the past few days and for some reason it will not let my posts go through.

Anyway, last night for dinner we had baked spaghetti, salad, garlic ciabatta, and a strawberry poke cake for dessert. Here are some pictures:

The hole on the left is where I put the bread plate. I served the baked spaghetti from the stove (table wasn't big enough).
