How EMH saved our trip-Doing the World on West Coast Time! Completed. Stop by my PTR!

I forgot to say last time how jealous I am that you got to see Off Kilter. I started falling for two of those guys when I first saw pictures posted in someone's TR.

Awesome towel animals!! :thumbsup2

Loved the old pictures. :goodvibes

I need to poke around online and see if I can find their music. They were REALLY good. We could have watched a whole set and DS16 was none to happy about being drug away (and none too happy that we couldn't get better pictures!). Of course in his case that just means quiet but I felt bad.

On the subject of old pictures...I wanted to share these

They are from DL but oh...I was shocked when I dug these up at how clear they really were from a '01 Advantix camera! I can't recall Spectromagic at WDW as even though I KNOW we saw it in 04, I have a shocking lack of pictures. I need to ask my mom about that!

Hard to see those mickey ears in the dark but let me tell you, the man has gotten an amazing amount of wear out of that hat!

All caught up now.... Yay! :cool1:

I love the old parade pix!

I have a 19 yr old stepson who was able to join us for part of our vacation in '06... those school schedules are horrible to plan around! Anyway, your report reminded me how much fun it was to see the "big" 16 yr old brother play with the "little" (8 and 10 yr old) kids at Disney... :cloud9:

Wow! :goodvibes What delightful updates here! Totally enjoyed the photos then and now! And the towel zoo you came home to! I really enjoyed the Wilderness cabins when we stayed there (only one night but fun!) What a fun surprise I am sure that was!

Looking forward to the rest of your trip!

Thanks for reading! I love the cabins, I'm sure we will be back. Not the next trip (can't see my MIL there lol) but one of these days!

And once again, I am woefully behind! Not only in my own TR but in reading others! A relatively good reason though. A 4 day get away with DH (no kids), followed by a short but intense work week, a holiday weekend which included the stomach flu or food poisoning for yours truly and now another short work week. Whew! I plan to get back on top of things this weekend! But...in the meantime a few "date trip" pictures.

Remind you of anything? Anywhere?

:)

more to follow... it was a GREAT trip!

Day 4! Or 5. I never know whether to count the first day! We didn't go to a park but...we WERE on vacation so I guess this is day 5. :)

The plan was...get there EARLY and have breakfast there. We had CS credits to burn so it seemed like a great plan.

Or at least that was MY plan. Scrooge bought in.

Right?

Right.

Sigh.

16 year old....

back around 1am EST.

One page of homework due via email by midnight PST.

What time do you think he went to bed?????????

I don't know. I was asleep. Scrooge was in charge. And flunked. And based on the grades that showed up upon our return, so did Steven.

But I digress. At this point we were on vacation and largely blissfully unaware of all the homework one 16 year old was really blowing off...and of a major math test he had upon return.

Said 16 year old could NOT be woken up in the am. It was brutal! Brutal brutal brutal. Drums could have been going off...cannons....you name it. By the time we got to DHS, our plan for the day, it was um...11.

waiting for the bus

our view, usually it was quiet at the Circle D when we were at the bus stop so it was fun to see a few folks there!

or as they liked to remind me, 8am at home. Which seemed perfectly early to the older ones. We were so late that upon trying to get CS bfast at Starring Rolls we found out...it was lunchtime.

Sigh.

We got FP's for RRC, ate and then the big boys took off to check out the Richard Petty Driving experience.

The "little ones" and I?

We kept plenty busy.

First....

we found Stitch

and then....

The kids couldn't decide what they wanted to do (beyond TSM which had a 90 minute wait and we'd already gotten RRC FP's) So I happily found the photopass guy. The kids didn't seem to mind.

With TSM a bust (for now and we really wanted FP's for all anyway and of course, Scrooge and Steven had left with their KTTW) the next stop was...

American Idol! Open for all of 2 days. What would the wait be?

The photopass pics turned out so good! You look like one of the kids. :goodvibes Can't wait to see what you think of AI. We've yet to see it. Next time for sure!

Glad to see you have returned to your TR! Looking forward to more, a fun post! :thumbsup2 loved the "Stitch" photos

:rotfl:

yeah...complete with the same zit Tink had! Rosacea is my punishment for acne free teen years. Sigh. FL humidity and 5 hour plane rides are not terribly kind to my skin.

Still I really like these pics, framed one of them. It cracks me up how DS9 is not looking the same way as the rest of us in the Stitch shot.

What kills me about this round of pictures is how tall she looks! My MIL was out about a month after the trip and remarked that we were getting close in size. I pooh-phooed her but then about a month after that had to invest in a fair amount of new clothes for the girl, she HAD grown. Crazy how it sneaks up!

What do you want to do? I don't know, what do you want to do?

***Hollywood Public Works saves the day!***

or the morning at least :)

Now our morning had been just about as indecisive as the entire day before from the minute we'd finally arrived. First it was about what to eat.

No one could actually TELL me what they wanted. Vague mentions of pastries were made so off to Starring Rolls we went. Despite all the bad reviews it was the only place I could think of that would have pastries. Really, finding a muffin shouldn't be that hard! Breakfast was over and while they had tons of pastries, none were pleasing DH who was being rather Scrooge like. So we headed over to Anaheim fruit which had...fruit.

Not many other options, I wasn't interested in even looking at the ABC Commisary so we headed back to Starring Rolls where 4 of us got lunch (which was actually AMAZING...the turkey on foccacia was surprisingly fabulous) and the very wonderful CM helped us cobble a full meal together out of extra sides or desserts for the 3 meals (no one needed or wanted a side AND dessert, AND the giant sandwich...which included chips somehow....) plus one snack credit for Wall-E which included a chocolate muffin as big as his head. Seriously. That CM was so cool, I'd have done another full CS and she very nicely said I didn't need to and the 3 meals would cover it plus the one credit. Seriously? So cool.

Scrooge decided to get a Turkey Leg.

Okay....no blueberry scone so you'll sub a Turkey Leg? And then text me b/c you don't trust it's really on "the list" and you are back all the way over at Toluca? Even though I'm trying to get 4 kids through the line at SR?

Good lord that thing was huge. And if memory serves, it was a SNACK credit!

Suffice to say the plan for burning CS credits at bfast AND lunch that day was shot.

No one needed lunch.

After we'd eaten it there was much discussion about what to do, everyone having a different opinion. So we split up, big boys to check out fast cars and we checked out TSM.

NO luck but, another photo op!
WDW_090215_0273.jpg

Here is Tink looking cool and Wall-E I am sure describing to all exactly where we should go. No clue but he is clearly being very descriptive to the other 2! LOL.

WDW_090215_0272.jpg

So, TSM out, with the 90 minute wait it became the

what do you want to do?

I don't know

what do you want to do?

I don't know.

Sigh.

So we wandered. Quite a bit actually, the 3 younger ones and I. And found that photpass guy that Scrooge wasn't keen on dealing with. He's since reformed, seeing the errors of his ways now that we are back and how cute the very few photos we had taken turned out.

We'd planned to do Idol later that day with the whole gang and with it being only day 2 of AI we assumed the waits would be hideous. We weren't in a rush to go stand in line and since no one could agree, we headed to the locker to check our bag for the night (EMH and dinner at PTC we expected it to cool off and had no plans to go back to the resort. Walking out I drug them into a couple of shops, searching for the wine glasses my mom had asked for. Spotted them and made a mental note of where to go back later.

HSM was floating by or playing everywhere we went all day so we kept trying to go around it, it was almost comical. DS8 likes HSM, DSD 12 is far too cool (or "over it" lol) and DS7 could care less. But it became a bit annoying....it didn't stop. All day! And we'd seen it before when we'd hopped in the day before. Kind of like the Celebrations Parade at MK, we couldn't escape it.

So the shops were a bit of a hiding spot too. Coming out of one of the shops we were stopped by a crowd.

What could it be?

WDW_090215_0279.jpg

The Hollywood Public Works!

These guys were HYSTERICAL! And got DS8 right into the mix, he was in heaven. Tink, who I assumed would be bored was rolling with laughter. The kids got sooooo into it and had so much fun, it really set the tone for the rest of the day and made it very "Hollywood" and less "ride" focused which was kind of a cool switch to flip as at this point, we'd really not seen any shows.

WDW_090215_0278.jpg

You can't really tell from the pics but they were engaging with DS8 most of the show. He still talks about it and has these pictures up in his room. So cute!

Afterward it was getting warm so we decided it was snack time. As with the CS credits, we had snack credits to burn.

I seriously cannot imagine DDP. We are eaters. Foodies even. We couldn't use the credits we had on the regular DDP to save our soul. Granted some of it was bad flight times but still, it was pathetic!

We headed over to Indiana Jones to see what the wait was and grabbed a snack at a cart near there. Wall-E almost lost it as they did not have mickey bars (only sandwiches) but was consoled with something (though I can't recall what) and the bigger kids got frozen lemonades. I got an espresso! Our timing was off on the Indy show so we figured we'd check out AI. The next show was soon so we assumed they'd already let that group in and would get in line for the next one which would give us plenty of time to finish our snacks. To our huge surprise despite the large outside waiting area, the line MOVED almost immediately and all to soon we were at the "toss your drink" point of no return.

Tink and and Goofy had not made a dent in the lemonades (and weren't loving them).

What to do??????????

Throw food away?

I have a very hard time with waste.

I have a very hard time with kids asking for a treat and then not liking it.

Even it was already paid for and we had more than we could use. It's the principle of the thing!

Hmmmn.........

Oh what the heck! It's vacation!

First you wait outside on a slanted area where they come out and "film" the crowds reactions, pretty funny. We got onscreen a couple of times, the kids got a huge kick out of that.

Then you are ushered in. The set looks fabulous. In the arm rest of each chair is the voting and they explain how to do it. And then I re-explained more than once, to the kids how it worked lol!

There are up to 6 shows a day and then the final for that day, I think. We were on show 2 or 3 at this point.

3 contestants at each show, the winner goes on to the final.

They were surprisingly good, all of them. I'd expected at least one horrible singer but nope! Cute packaged clips of each.

I actually snuck some video of each, it was fun!

Overall I was impressed with the quality of the set, the show and the singers. And glad we'd gone to one of the individual qualifying shows. Would we make it back for the final later that day????

Stay tuned!
