I have a purchased a plethora of bags in the last year with Disney in mind. It's been a never ending quest for the perfect park bag.
Let's take a walk down Bag Lane, shall we?
The very first bag I purchased with Disney in mind was this beauty (Mine is all Pink & Silver, no camo). $12.96 from Walmart. I had a bag almost exactly like this on my trip in 2005 and it worked awesome. I love it, such a comfy strap and easy to carry.
I wasn't feeling it. It cut across me in an unflattering way and just felt bulky.
Onto another bag.
The Overland Donner Bag. We went to REI to purchase this one. Felt great and we used on a test run on our honeymoon in Bermuda. It cut into my neck so bad that it left marks. Back to the bag drawing board.
I kept hearing great things about Baggallini's. I didn't actually buy one but went to the store to check it out. Just not comfy for me.
The store we went too sold Vera Bradley bags. I had heard a lot so I decided to get one. Java Blue Messenger Bag for $84. Did I pick the one that was on clearance for $35. Oh no, I wanted the pretty pattern! I used it on the first day in Disney and decided that it made me feel like a pack mule.
I bought this in the Pop Century Gift Shop. Worked like a charm but hated have take it off and on for each attraction as I couldn't sit with it on. I didn't want to crush my camera.
Ever since I booked my May trip, I have been on a quest for the perfect bag. I bought the cutest Vera Bradley Hipster on Ebay. It's a discontinued pattern, Piccadilly Plum. I bought it for $27 with shipping. Not too shabby.
Then another traveling companion was going to be joining me.
No way was my camera and Nobby the Gnome going to fit in that hipster.
Boo.
So I bought another Vera Bradley bag, in Capri Melon. For the life of me, I can't remember what style this is and I can't find it on the Vera site. Sorry. EDIT: CARGO SLING! I remembered!
Now I use this bag daily. It's become my work bag. It's not really a Disney bag. I want to be able to wear something across my body and it's just too tight.
I haven't bought a bag in months. For fear that Marc would kill me and for the fact that I couldn't find anything I really liked.
I found this one on Zappos this week, the Kavu Sydney Sling.
I *think* this bag would work for most. It was comfy, roomy, would fit everything I need BUT the strap just wasn't long enough. I was afraid once everything was in it, it would be too uncomfortable.
Sigh. I received this last bag yesterday. An hour later I was off to Wal*Mart. I told myself id I didn't find anything I would just use the very first bag I bought last year. You can imagine Marc's look on his face when I told him this. In my defense, I used it while we were moving and it was very comfortable...in fact, I think I am going to bring it to Disney, just in case.
ANYHOO...I went to Wal*Mart and went straight to the bag section. I was texting back and forth with Jen at this point and told her if I didn't find something soon, I was going to go with the Fanny Pack. No offense to Fanny Pack users but it's just not me.
This is what I found.
I have sense cut the small black strap off of the bag and threaded that pretty pink scarf thingy through the bag to use as the strap.
VOILA! I have got a bag. The scarf thingy is so soft and slight stretchy. The best thing is that I can adjust it to the length that I want. The silver hoops that had the black handle are going to be cut off. Marc thinks his Dad has a tool strong enough to cut through them. I have threaded the scarf thingy through where they are attached. It would have been perfect if they had a black scarf but they didn't.
How much did this bag cost? $15.00 total. $15! I don't even want to add up everything I have spent on bags in the last year.
So what do you think? Does it look completely silly? I am very self conscious about my bag. You would think that I would have reached the point where I don't care what people think of me. Marc tells me it looks fine but he would tell me that a trash bag attached to a lanyard looked good at this point.
