When will 2011 sailings be released?

The Captain stated Jan 2010 on my last cruise. They will include the new ship and the alternate itinerary for the Magic/Wonder.

I'm betting the first new ship will take over the 4/3 Wonder itinerary and the Wonder will either take over the 7-nighters for the Magic or go to CA. If you recall, the Magic first did 4/3's when it was launched in 98. =) Purely a guess.

Some logic.

The new ships will accommodate more cruisers, therefore to maintain the same level of service at dinner, IE no table further form the galley than now, they will need at least 4 restaurants maybe 5. DCL is distinctive for rotational restaurants, and wouldn't want to go freestyle.

Therefore with 4 or 5 rotational restaurants you couldn't put the new ship on a 3/4 night Wonder route, maybe if we saw 5night/5 night/4 night Wonder type trips to be tested in 2010, then its feasible.

Remember that the new ships will have far more facilities on them and therefore imho would be wasted on 3/4 night cruises.

got off the boat Sunday. While on board we booked dummy dates for Dec 2010 because the schedule wasn't out yet for 2011. They just weren't sure when the new schedules would be released. There is no fee for changing dates, or upgrading or downgrading your category. Our deposit is refundable.

unless you know something you aren't sharing, I wouldn't count on San Diego. The harbor is pretty small and can't be made bigger (unless the Navy wants to give up some of their big ship parking places). There are some ships that sail out of the two slips there.

Hmmmm....... I thought DCL announced that the home port of all the ships would be Port Canaveral? That doesn't mean that one or two won't do special itineraries elsewhere though.

DCL announced the home port for the two 'new' ships will be port canavaveral for at least the first three years on arrival, it 'didnt say' the current ones would stay, but in due course there is a commitment that if the new ships went walkabout the other ones would come back with a contract to keep two ships there at all times.

West coast LA/San Diego watch this space. I think its the same as the discussion on a move to Tampa instead of PC a few years back.

They have already confirmed that one of the new ships will take over the 3/4 night Wonder route and the other the Magic's route. This is coming from Captains on the Wonder and Magic. The only question is which route will the put the first new ship on. I still have my bets on the Wonder's route.

I bow to your knowledge on that, I had heard something different as I posted above, and reasons,why they would only do the 7 nights first and not the 3/4 Wonder, ( until Ship no 2 comes) I hadn't seen your bit 'confirmed' as such.

I will still keep to my own personal view of what will come. as there is still time to change 'any' plans for the new ships.

the Magic will be coming to the west coast, to do the mexican riviera, and alaska in the summer. P/C is being modified for the larger ships with a new parking structure, the only real ? is what happens to the Wonder, south pacific in the winter? and med in the summer?

My guess is that they'll need a good est. del. date before they can release anything for booking. Since the new ships aren't even STARTED yet they can't plan any dates for them until Meyer Werft lays their keels or whatever.

Meanwhile, you CAN re-book onboard your cruise - you just book a "dummy reservation" with the furthest date out that you can (currently Dec. 4 2010 I think). We did this last summer. The 2010 dates weren't out yet but we re-booked for Dec 2009. People do this all the time & I think they even have a specific cabin # they use so it doesn't really tie up any cabins from real customers trying to book. We recently just got the date moved to the furthest date out that they will book a dummy res. for 2010. Once we find out more about 2011 we'll decide if we want to go in 2011 or wait for 2012. Depends which route the first new ship takes. We def. want at least a 7 nighter so if the first ship takes over for the Wonder we'll wait for the 2nd one.

I don't think they've said officially either way yet and the key words here are "may not". I'm sure the CM's can't guarantee anything either way but the booking agent told us that it was currently transferable between the Magic and the Wonder so she didn't see why it wouldn't be able to transfer to the new ships. Sounded to me like she had not been told anything for sure either way at the time we re-booked. If they won't allow it to transfer to the new ships then they'll lose us as customers. Simple as that. That's why we re-booked. By that point with the way they keep raising the prices we'll need that discount to afford to go. If they won't allow it we'll simply cancel and take our business to RCL. I am pretty fed up with DCL's prices anyway. I really just wanted to see one of the new ships. But it won't kill me if I don't. Well, it may be a slower death anyway.

My TA said the same thing. While we were on the Magic over Thanksgiving, our head waiter said the first of the new ships would be sailing by the end of 2010. I considered then I might change my Oct 2010 date to the new ship.

He added that they would be moving 30% of staff from the Magic and 30% from the Wonder to the new ship. He said service would suffer on the older ships if they took more than that.

If you rebook onboard and later change to a different date, you pay whatever the going rate is for the new date minus your 10% discount. Either way you haven't paid in full, just the deposit which would transfer along with your new date.

If you decide to cancel completely, you get your deposit back but then lose any onboard perks if you decide to call back and book again. I would never completely cancel a cruise that was booked onboard. You can always change the dates 50 times if you like. Of course, DCL is holding your deposit all the while.

We rebooked while onboard the Magic (2/7-2/14). We want to cruise again in February 2011. We booked a bogus date in 2010 (12/10/10). The future booking CM said the norm was to book us in same category as this cruise (cat 9) and to put us in the 2nd seating for dining (even though we like the first); all this to leave room for everyone booking that sail date for real.

She said to look for February 2011 offerings in the fall (she said it could be September, October or November).

She also said the current discount (10% off plus $200 onboard credit) was subject to change. When we move our ressie from the bogus date to the February date we pick, we will receive whatever the current onboard booking discount is at that time. She said, "it could be 5% and a $200 onboard credit, it could be 10% on no onboard credit, or it could be nothing at all." But, of course, we have the option of canceling our ressie & getting a full refund if the new offer (assuming it changes) is not acceptable to us. I asked if the offer would be good on the new ship. She said that that has not been decided yet.
