Just welcoming back all the regulars, and welcoming new-comers as well!
Its tri season coming soon, and I've already got one on my list... March 1st! Granted, its an indoor pool swim, but still! Anyone already (or still) training?

Here's some of the signatures that I made last year.. if anyone wants a different color or what have you, just let me know :goodvibes

Nice artwork!

I have already registered for the AFAC Tri @ WDW in September. It is currently $50 off registration, so this way I have already committed myself.

I am also (very tentatively) planning on doing the Atlantic Coast Tri in Fernandina Beach in October. This will (might, maybe) be my ist 1/2 IM. I was going to do the 1/2 IM in WDW in May, but just do not think I have enough time to train (ESPECIALLY in the swim) adequately for it.

Hopefully it will be a fun year for us all!

I'll be in this thread all year.

just completed the first Ironman training day...1600 yards in the pool.

Only 114 swims over the next 38 weeks to go!

Mike

Hi Jim! I'm slowly working my way to a half ironman! But that's scary for me... my goal this year is to do an olympic distance! :thumbsup2

Mike- Yay for the first training session for swimming! What program are you using?? The one thing I need to work on is my swimming!

Yay!! As the starter of the other tri thread, thanks, Suzann, for starting this! :goodvibes

Mike...I forgot...which IM are you doing? Have fun, but be careful, as you are still a ways out....burnout is common if you focus too hard on the IM for too long.

I am still recovering from shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff. Surgery was 7 weeks ago today, and I can ride my bike on the trainer, but that's it for now. :sad1: Hope to get clearance to run when I see the doc in 2 weeks. Swimming will take longer, of course.

First tri for me this season will be April 4...a sprint. Then signed up for another sprint in May and have the Kansas 1/2 Ironman in June. No full IM for me this year.

happy training!

Hi all,

My goal this year, at the ripe old age of 50, is to do my first tri--sprint, of course. Was training last year, but ITB issues got the best of me. Haven't picked one yet. Locals wouldn't be til at least June--such a long way off.

Maura
(How do I grab one of the siggies?)

Ironz- What kind of surgery did you have? I've been having shoulder pains and issues and they want to do physical therapy. I feel like its worse than what PT could fix and want to push for an MRI. (I also play baseball and am a pitcher, not really good for my shoulder)

Maura- Yay for your first tri! Feel free to ask any questions here about the races or anything for that matter :goodvibes
You can grab a siggie by copying it to your desktop and uploading it to your photobucket or another site. Or you can copy the image address by right clicking and adding it that way (remember it has to have the IMG at the beginning and end) Hope that made sense.. if it didn't, can someone else help out? I'm bad at describing these things :worship:

Hey everyone!

Like Maura will be doing my first sprint tri this year and like Maura looks like first ones locally are June/July so have a ways to go.

I'm certain I'll be looking for help and the occasional kick over the coming months. ;)

Right now, I'm getting ready to head to WDW for my first full marathon!

OK, I'll work to keep this PG-13.

I just got my road bike fitted at the LBS with aero bars, and my back and legs feel great...but...while on the trainer, and in the aero position, I seem to be getting a lot of pressure on the perinium...if you decide to google that, please be sitting down.

Anyway, I experienced numbness in my ...ahem... nether regions, and was wondering if any of the fellas on here had experienced similar symptoms, and had a solution.

I haven't had much luck googling a solution, so thought I ask in a tri specific thread.

Thank you and Sorry Ladies! :flower3:

Mike

The only question I have is if you have a special seat or not... one of the ones that has the hole in the middle? That might help.. but that's about where I stop with my suggestions ;)

I did find a couple of sites which recommended a seat that is tri-specific...wouldn't you think that during a fitting at a BIKE STORE that they might have suggested that???

Jeez!

Mike - :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: .Not laughing at you but the post....I have heard that you need to adjust your seat if this happens. Good luck with that.

Ironz - so sorry about the injury.

BTW - This is Christa...I do tris and was 3 weeks into training for my 1st HIM....White Lake HIM in May. BUT, I did not meet my sub 4 goal for the marathon so now I signed up for the Myrtle Beach Mary. Not enough $$$$ to do both. So the plan is Mary in Feb, 1/2 mary in March (with a friend doing her 1st), and some sprints and olys over the summer.

Thanks for your support...lol I guess I have too much support already, thats why I'm having an issue.

Sorry you didn't meet your goal, but good job getting back on the horse!!!

I already tilted down the seat by about 5 degrees...much more than that, and you feel like you are falling off the darn thing.

I'll be going to buy a new seat tomorrow...DW just rolls her eyes at how much money getting into shape costs...

Mike

Mike....as a chick, I totally have to have the seats with the cutout in the middle. Good for guys, too. There are several models, but better that than to be uncomfortable. Or numb. Depending on where you got fit, some bike shops want to keep people in a more "roadie" position than a time trial position, and may forget that you're going to be sitting more forward. Or maybe you just weren't on the bike in the shop long enough to notice. At any rate, good luck. And tell your wife that buying a new saddle will be cheaper than buying a new bike! :rotfl:

...and then buy her jewelry, so that when you do come home with a new bike she won't fuss as much. :lmao:

Christa and Suzann...I had rotator cuff repair 7 weeks ago, due to a mt. biking injury. It's just a long recovery, getting range of motion back, and then strength (eventually), while not messing up the surgeon's repair. Things are progressing nicely, but of course, it is too slow for my taste! I am hoping to get clearance to run when I see the doc in 2 weeks. For now, I can ride my bike on the trainer, so have been doing that when I'm not off travelling for work.

Are we doing introductions??
I'm Betsy. :goodvibes Triathlete since 1999. Various distances under my belt in a bunch of races (I need to count...I am guessing I've done about 60?). Love to help newbies.

Mike...I forgot...IM Wisconsin was my first Ironman. It's a great race. Let me know if you have any questions about it. I can't find my race report...it's probably on one of those 3.5" floppys or something.

BAHAHAHAHAHAAAA....I haven't had a PC that had a 3.5 floppy drive for 4 years...I had to go to my PC graveyard and install one a couple weeks back for my first grader.

I'm a little concerned about the bike course in the WI IM...my understanding is that there are a bunch of short steep climbs, and that its a two loop race, not out and back...planning on going up there in May and June and riding it a couple times just to get to know the lay of the land.

Also, I've never swam that far (farthest so far has been 2400 yards in a pool...of course there is rest scheduled into the workouts). At the Spirit of Racine last summer, you could, if you wanted, mostly put your feet down and stand for a couple of seconds....whats it like commiting to 2.4 miles across a lake where you pretty much are going continuously...that's whats really in my head right now, not so much the bike or run...

Thanks!

Mike

Ok for introductions.. I'm Suzann (was that obvious?) :goodvibes I've done only one sprint triathlon, but am an all around athlete. This year I plan to do a couple of sprint tri's and my big goal is to finish an Olympic distance tri. The hardest part for me is the swim. If I make it out of the water without swallowing half of the lake, I'm good!

Just giving this a bump...

Has anyone done the 'Total Immersion' way of swimming for their training? I really am a terrible swimmer and was wondering if this would help :goodvibes

Suzann...I've heard good things about Total Immersion, particularly if you are going to one of their clinics. :thumbsup2

Mike...I am going to get one of those external drives to see if I can't access my floppy disc files (ha!) and find my Wisconsin RR. And yes, the hills are relentless in that course...but it's quite pretty. It was my first IM, and I'm sure my experience would have been better if I knew what I was in for.
