Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

Okay we have a trip booked Jan 17th-24th. We have decided to fly down late (getting in at 11:40pm) the night of the 16th and possibly stay at the Hotel at the airport. How would that work with the DME first thing the next morning? How do you give Disney your flight time for pick up when you get in the day before? Or would it be easier to book a "room only" at the resort that we are staying at the night before our vacation starts and just get there really late? Please let me know what you think. Thanks for any help or advice that you can give. :)

You have a couple choices...
You could book that arrival night at your resort (room only) and then take the bus there.
Or, you can stay at the airport hotel and take the DME the next morning. But, you will have to keep your bags with you..no tagged bags if you do it that way.
If it's possible to book a night at your resort, for arriva night, that's what I would do. Then, you can tag your bags and forget about them. Take a carryon bag, packed with essentials for that first night, and take the bus to your resort.

Thanks for the quick reply. If for some reason we do choose to stay at the airport, how to we give Disney our flight information to get picked up the morning after we arrive since we really don't have a flight number. Can you just show up at the desk in the morning with our bags to get on DME? I thought you had to have a voucher or something? Again thanks!

As long as you have made a reservation with DME, you're good to go. You can give them flight info for a flight that comes in that morning, about the same time that you will be arriving, but you don't have to.
Just get up that morning, take your luggage with you, to the DME checkin counter..Side B, level 1. You will be asked about your return flight info, then they will stamp your vouchers (they are in your info packet that they mail out to you). You will be directed to the appropriate bus and your luggage will be stowed underneath your bus...and off you go to your resort.

It's important to call DME to get your yellow transportation tags, once you get your final confirmation with your souvie tags and vouchers. I didn't realize that this was an important step. I have 14 days till we leave and DME made it seem as if it's too late to get the tags. But, not to fear as there is a way to make it work out.

As long as your sister is on your reservation, she will be able to go right to the DME counter and check in. They will ask her name, and possibly for an ID. Then, they will print her out a voucher to use on the bus.
But, she obviously won't have yellow tags for her checked bags. She will either have to get them herself, from baggage claim, or give the claim receipts to DME at the desk and a description of the bags and DME will take care of them for her.

As far as tags, if you have extra tags, you could send the extras to your sister. But as far as boarding the bus, yes all she needs is her ID. They will print her bus boarding pass at the desk.

Hi,
We are coming in for our first Dcl land and sea package. Due to scheduling and flight options we decided to purchase an additional night at our resort separately the day prior to our original date of arrival. We got our cruise documents and they do not include DME tags (yellow) Only the DCL blue tags. I did enter our new arrival information on the DME portion of the online check in. What should I do to make sure that we aren't stranded. I was advised to NOT refer to my package when making the extra night reservation.

Thanks for any help you can provide! :thumbsup2

PS ON another note We are staying first and then cruising. Is it permissible for us to use our first (fourth) park ticket day on the day we arrive since we have to check out for the cruise at 11am and won't be able to go to the parks on that day?

I'm going to assume that your 'extra' night is a completely different reservation number, correct? Your DME info packet, with luggage tags, would be completely different than the DCL documents, so would arrive at different times.
How long ago did you make the DME reservation? They need at least 10 days to get the packet printed and mailed out to you. You say you did it online, but to the best of my knowledge, the only guests that can do an online DME reservation are groups (through their corporate reservation) and DVC members, on the DVC site. Other than that, I wasn't aware you could book online.
If I were you, I would call DME directly and make sure you are in their system as having reservations. The number is...866-599-0951.

As for the other question...are you getting your park passes as part of a package? If so, they will not be available until the package reservation starts....which would be the following day. I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say your first (fourth) park ticket day though.

Call DME directly at 866-599-0951.

Make sure that you have a DME reservation for your arrival day (this will be for a one-way DME ride, airport to resort). Refer ONLY to your resort reservation number ... DME has nothing to do with your DCL reservation, and even mentioning it might muddy the waters a bit. Just call DME and make sure you have a reservation for your arrival day regarding your 1-night resort reservation.

Evidently, we're on the same wave length yet again!!!

Thanks Diane and Eric!
You were right and I just wish I would have thought to check into it a few days ago. They got it all arranged for me.

Re the Park tickets:
DME referred me to DCL to verify the rest of the transportation and the DCL rep informed me that we could use our park tickets starting the date of actual arrival and was not limited to starting the first date of the package. They can only be use for 4 days total

I was so looking forward to using DME luggage service (and transportation) on our WDW trip. We leave two weeks today (yippee!) and haven't received anything from DME. We have booked through a TA in New Zealand and unfortuantely it has been really difficult for her to organise DME (don't know why?). She says she has confirmation from DME for our pick up etc. but we haven't got our luggage tags or anything. I read at the beginning of this post that even if you don't get your luggage tags you can still get Disney to deal with your luggage and have it delivered to your resort.

I was wondering if anyone has ever done this? The thought of not having to deal with luggage when arriving in Orlando is just wonderful (especially after a 12 hour flight to San Francisco and then another 5 hours to Orlando). We will have already cleared customs in San Franciso. We are staying at Pop.

Try not to worry. My suggestions would be to.....use something very 'different' as luggage tags. Perhaps some out of the ordinary colored ribbon. Then, take photos of each piece of luggage, with those 'special ribbons' on them, if at all possible.
When you get to DME welcome area, they will ask you how many pieces of luggage you checked. YOu can then give them the baggage claim receipts, as well as a description (and photos if they want) and they will send someone to get the bags and then send them along to POP.
You should be fine..many have done exactly what you are going to do, with very good results.

Your Disney’s Magical Express reservation has been made; however, you may not receive your Disney’s Magical
Express booklet with luggage tags prior to departure for Orlando. Please be assured that you will still be able to
utilize the service and receive the same seamless experience.
Once you arrive at Orlando International Airport, you have two options:
1) You can pick up your luggage at baggage claim and proceed directly to the Disney
Welcome Center. You will be responsible for taking your luggage with you on the
motor coach.
2) Or you may proceed directly to the Disney Welcome Center. You do not need to claim
your luggage. Disney will gather all of your information and collect your luggage for
you and then deliver it to your resort room.
IMPORTANT: Please pack any valuables, medications or anything needed immediately upon arrival into Orlando in
a carry-on bag.
Arrival at Orlando International Airport. Upon arrival, please take the tram from your gate to the main Terminal
and proceed to the Disney Welcome Center which is located on the B Side on Level 1 and bypass baggage claim.
If you arrive on the A Side, please proceed to the B Side before taking the elevator or escalator down to Level 1.
You may follow the airport signs to Ground Transportation.
At the Disney Welcome Center, please present your airline baggage claim checks to the Disney representative
to confirm the number of bags* checked as well as your return flight information. You will then board a
complimentary motor coach that will take you to your resort. Your motor coach may make up to 3 stops before
arriving at your resort.
Luggage delivery to the resort. Your luggage will be claimed at the airport and delivered to your room. Your
luggage may take up to 3 hours after you check-in to be delivered. You do not need to be in your room to receive
your luggage. Please note if you take your luggage on the motor coach it will not automatically be delivered to
your room.

Thanks so much for the replies. I feel so much better and think I will still use their service of having them pick up our bags and deliver them to Pop.

Thanks again. :thumbsup2

Can someone tell me if Southwest is a participating airline for DME for boarding passes yet?? I heard they were going to be joining in too soon! Thanks. :goodvibes

Nope. It's been rumored for a couple of years now. But no one "in the know" has given us any indication that it's anywhere close to happening.

You can still get your SWA boarding passes at your resort's Lobby Concierge desk, or at Guest Services at the parks or Downtown Disney. It's just that you can't use your resort's Resort Airline Check-in desk to check in and to dispose of your luggage, etc.

We are planning to use DME for our the upcoming trip and have an interesting question. (I tried to search for Magical Express in the search option but nothing came up. Then I found this thread)

1. Can we still use DME even if we don't check luggage? We are thinking about saving the extra money since we are flying AirTran where we have to pay for the first bag.

Yes, you can still use DME without checked luggage. There's absolutely no requirement that you check luggage. In fact, there are people who use DME who choose NOT to let DME handle their checked luggage.

Have fun. You'll be among the few people who don't have to wonder if your airline will fly your luggage to Orlando on-time!

Not sure if this has been asked yet or not. If so sorry I missed it. In the past when we used DME on the return to the airport, its seemed as though we arrived with just enough time to check in luggage and board. When I call to arrange a pickup do they ask for the flight number or just the time? I cant remember. I was thinking about telling them we depart an hour before the actual time to allow some extra time. I dont mind waiting at the airport, just dont like to be rushed like we have been in the past. Thanks
