Thanks Nick! Our flight departs at 620am, so we should have time at the coffee shop for a bite do you think? I haven't even seen the outside of the airport so I have no clue! I know here at the Moncton airport everything opens relatively late.

Has any one used the Discount Parking Lot at the Portland Jetport ? We have a afternoon flight( 3:15 )so we dont realy need a hotel and thoght we could save a few $ by only paying 7 $ a day .

This is our first time, and with such a long drive and a super early flight we are staying at HoJo's with a park and fly. Under $100 US for the parking and 1 nights stay.
Hopefully someone here can help you with the parking though.

This is our first trip to DW and on a plane. (dh and I have flewn before...just not since we have been together)

so where is everyone staying the night before their flights. I am checking rates for park and fly for August 09 and they are quite high compared to Bangor. Any suggestions would be great

i have stayed at both. the outdoor and indoor<covered one>

they are both good. if your going around xmas pay the extra 3$per day.

no snow on your car when you get back.

the airport is about the size of the moncton one but on 2 stories.
first one is ticket second is security and everything else.

Montréal-educated Maine native chiming in here.
Off I-295 in Portland, about 10-15 mins from the PWM "Jetport", there is a 24 hour Denny's. It's right off the Congress Street exit (address for GPS is "1091 Congress St"). You might be able to find something decent there at 4:00 AM before your flight.

There are a bunch more Mainers over on the Transportation board who may be able to help also.

Bangor is likely to lose even more flights as the oil companies play hardball with the State of Maine. Exxon Mobil was the sole Jet Fuel supplier at BGR, and decided that the disclosure requirements under a new Maine law were too onerous, so threatened to pull out of BGR. I am not sure if this has been resolved yet, but it has been one reason why airlines have scaled back Bangor service. It's a pity there are not better options for our Maritime neighbours. PWM still has to compete with Manchester NH and Boston, so the airlines are keen on maintaining plenty of service there.

Good luck all! :goodvibes

Interesting that Bangor is losing flights. We flew from there a couple of years ago and the prices were great. flights are definietely great now out of portland.

Thanks so much for the advice! We LOVE Denny's. Unfortunately, or fortunately, we are being shuttle with a park and fly sort of thing with our hotel. So we will have to tough it out...stop at WalMart the night before...or better yet a bakery. Hmmmm......

In some sense I wish that Bangor still had these great flights as it's closer to home...but I love Portland and all the shopping and then Freeport and then Bangor. I hope I can still say this amongst the snow and ice and cold. Never driven down there this time of year before. Hopefully the weather co-operates.

I noticed on the map of the airport that they have 3 different areas for eating. One being a restaurant and I assume the other 2 are just like what we have here at the Moncton Airport downstairs. Jsut a grab and go area. Are they all open at 5?

Ugh, what course are you taking? 5 am EVERY morning would seriously make me one very grumpy woman. I did 2 babies in 14 months... I was not pleasant. Walking grumpy zombie. lol

this will be our first time using Portland Airport. I bought a TomTom 3rd generation gps. Thought this may help keep me on the straight. I have a poor sense of direction!:rotfl:

We have a early morning flight as well. Our flight leaves at 6:00am. Next Friday we leave!

Gettting excited. Great to know about Denny's and Tim Hortons across the street!

Oops. The Tim Hortons came from the Transportation board. There is a thread on airports in Maine.

I am from Old Orchard Beach about 20 minutes south of Portland. There is a Tim Hortons very close to the airport. There is also an Ihop close as well. I believe that opens at 5am.

Worst case...if you go to the hilton garden inn they open a cold buffet at 4:30 or 5. The night auditor puts it out. When I was the night auditor it was yoguart, fruit, and cereal. Nothing crazy...but it is fiid :)

AHh I will have to check out that thread for sure!! We will need to be at the airport no later than 420? UGh I still don't know how this is going to work. So the Hilton won't work for just breakfast purposes. That and it's $50 more...which is about $500 CAD... omg the CAD isn't good right now! :(

I think we will hold out for breakfast until we get to Ft. Lauderdale. We are staying in Hollywood Beach for 3 days before we head for a cruise in Miami and then we will go to Disney and area for the following three weeks...

Are you getting excited yet? When do you leave?
