Ordered my Fort Fiends signs today

Thanks to the graphic art department of the camping DISboards we were able to order our lime green ears today at a local sign shop. We ordered a 2 X 3 foot ( I think) staked sign and an 8" decal for the pop up. It will be ready on Thursday. Can't wait to see it. Better yet can't wait to use it in December.

Good luck when you pick them up. I did the same thing just before our last trip. When I went to pick them up they were printed in Forest green and not Lime Green. The printer acted like it was not a big deal and explained it was the type of file the image had been saved as and there was nothing she could do. So if it was a Jpeg look out.

I ended going to Staples and getting printable magnets sheets and doing it myself on my photo printer. The only problem I had was the red ink ran when it got wet.

I like the one someone made with musket mickey and the blue ring. We could change the blue to lime green.

Unfortunately the way most printers (desktop inkjets and huge commercial presses alike) produce colors is combining cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks to make a relatively wide spectrum of colors. Things these printers struggle with are rich reds and bright greens. As they say, you can't get there from here. The only way to get these colors on a press is to use what are called spot colors, which are custom mixed inks to produce a specific color match (i.e. Coke red)... much like mixing house paints. To get close on a desktop printer you need a rather high-end photo printer that uses 6+ ink printing... but honestly, I'm not sure that would get you a lime green. You might have good luck printing at a Walmart photo center (or other) since photographic processes have a wider spectrum to play with. I plan on trying this myself and will post my results if no one beats me to it.

I hope so. Let us know how it turns out. From what my sign shop said the file has to be saved in a certain type file that they can adjust the colors on. Not in jpeg. Then they can chose a color they are able to print in lime green. I'm sorry but I have forgotten the file type now.

What if I just printed the words from the sign and an outline of the Mickey head right onto lime green paper (or cardstock)? Cut it out and then put it onto another piece of cardstock then laminate the whole thing? I'm hoping the colors would read true being printed on colored paper instead of white. Has anybody else tried something like this?

The only color that will print "true" will be black... everything else will be affected by the lime colored paper (i.e. much darker, and mixed with green, so red = brown, blue = evergreen, etc). And remember that all the white areas in your original will be lime in the printout. Depending on your intentions you might find a way to make it work. Chances are, you will do better printing on heavy white stock, cutting it out and pasting on the lime stock.

here is how i did my sign. i think the board i have it on is about 3' x 4' . i did mine on my cricut (scrapbook die cutting machine). i used the lime green poster board and then after putting the words, etc on the head, you got it... i laminated it with a hot lam..

Went to pick up the sign today....oh no...hours by appointment only on Saturday. Anyway...I saw it through the window. It looks perfect. Can't wait to get it on Monday.

I went to Home Depot today.....I bought wood and green spray paint and a lawn stake. I'm gonna have my hubby use a jig saw and cut out a Mickey head. The I'm going to spray paint it green. I am not sure if I am going to use stickers to put my name on, or if I will paint my name on it. Heading to the fort for Thanksgiving and hope to have it done before then!

Well its now thursday and still no word. I wonder if the color was right.

Picked up our sign today and love it. It's 24"X18". We had it made by a sign place (a friend that does vinyl work). He used what he called apple green vinyl as the back to get the lime green color. He put it on a plastic board that has a medal stand that sticks in the ground like a realastate sign. This guy is good, he free handed the musket mickey and then scanned it then colored on the computer and here it is. He did it all right in front of me while I waited, it was cool. We have smaller ones made (about 6”) too but they were put through another vinyl machine that puts paint on it and it turned out forest green. We are still going to use them, maybe slap one on the side of the camper and one on the tailgate of the truck. Then only thing he didn’t do was use the waltograph font. I guess ours is going to be different. We will have it out next to our new mickey lamp post. Looking forward to seeing other dis’ers down there Nov 28th thru Dec 6th.

The sign and decal are perfect. The color was exact. Hopefully this w/e I'll be able to post a pic but it does look quite similiar to the one in the post prior to this.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Can you post the pic you gave to the printer too along with the finished sign and tell who made it for you ? Maybe I can get a new one done that can be printed in some form of lime green and not forest green. Thanks

Seabee e-mailed the file to me, I saved to my desktop after downloading a intro, free Photoshop file, put it on a disc and then brought that disc to the printers.
