Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

What happens if you are booked for DME but arriving from Uk and having to go through customs? We are thinking of doing this next year. I rang Disney uk to enquire and the CM said that we have to take our own luggage to the bus, as we have to do customs but we can still use the bus part of the service. I am just wondering if this is correct?

Yep...you can just bring your bags with you, to the bus. I'm sure that there are others who have had the same situation who can more fully explain what happens though.

You don't have to take your own luggage to the bus -- you can still have it delivered "magically" to your resort:

If Orlando is your first point of entry into the United States, follow the U.S. Customs & Border Protection process and claim their luggage upon disembarking the airplane. Once you have completed this process, return your luggage to the airport officials and proceed to the Disney Welcome Center. Luggage will be transferred to baggage claim where Disney's Magical Express will claim it and have it delivered to your room.

So Jet blue is on Side A thanks for the info! But do you know the phone number for DME Please!

The ALK luggage tags are just the same as the other resorts...long pieces of yellow paper, with a black Mickey head on them. Very similar to the tags the airlines put on the bags, but DME are yellow, the airlines are white and have no Mickey head. The tags for AKL will say AKL on them, with AK as the main area.

Your tags will look like the following, except they will say AK instead of EC and the mickey head will be a different color instead of blue (I think it's green). Note that all the barcodes are regular barcodes, but I blurred them in the following image:

Thanks...I knew someone would have a shot of them.

We got our DME stuff today. However, we did not recieve anything for my sister who is arriving a day later than us. Does she need the same voucher we have (the one that's in the booklet) in order to check in at MCO when she arrives? The CM I spoke to when adding her flight info said all she'd need is her ID. I'm a little confused.

As long as your sister is on your reservation, she will be able to go right to the DME counter and check in. They will ask her name, and possibly for an ID. Then, they will print her out a voucher to use on the bus.
But, she obviously won't have yellow tags for her checked bags. She will either have to get them herself, from baggage claim, or give the claim receipts to DME at the desk and a description of the bags and DME will take care of them for her.

Thanks for the info! I can't hardly wait! Oh! one more thing I am confused does DME is Free or you need to pay!

Jeany,

I truly don't mean to offend or insult you, but I just gotta ask ...

In at least 2 other threads, you yourself posted that DME is free. You were cheering about it, and everyone agreed with you. So why are you now asking IF it's free? Are you joking with us? If not, please feel free to PM me and I can suggest some memory strategies.

I need to know because it wasn't me! Because my mom wanted to know so she don't get worried to pay! If you understand! CleveRocks! It's not a joke! My mom needs to know this will be our first time use the DME!

thanks for the info! I can't wait to use this DME!

so what if you don't want to go to where you luggage is supposed to go. My DS is coming in several days after we get there. The family will probably be in the Magic Kingdom area. Is it ok for him to take the DME to say Grand Floridian instead of Saratoga Springs? We still want his luggage to go to SSR, but we don't want to have to go all the way over to SSR to meet him or him have to get to the MK area when he could just go to a MK resort. Is there a problem with him going to an alternate resort? Does he need to do anything at the check in at MCO?

Although there's always a chance that he might find a sympathetic cast member who would let him board a different bus, you absolutely can't rely on them breaking a Disney rule. The policy is that you can only take the DME bus to/from the resort where you're a registered guest.

After you check-in at the DME counter at MCO, you get led to your proper bus queue, and when it's time you get escorted from the queue to the bus itself.

I seriously doubt your DS will be able to do this. His voucher will give his resort, and that's the bus he will get on. It will take about another 30 mins or so for him to get to MK from SSR.

Rumor hath it that Disney is working on a program where you can go to a different place other than your resort. But, to date, that hasn't happened. It would be a mess if they started allowing guests to get on whatever bus they wanted. The buses to the resorts with park access would be full, while the other buses would be standing there, waiting for guests to appear.

DME is a wonderful thing, but it isn't a 'magical' system that gets everyone to where they want to be....various resorts, parks, etc.
