Does anyone know how much to rent a fridge at pop century? Can we have a fridge purchased from Costco and delievered?

Hi all-

working to make a great Bday celebration for my 2 DD- they will turn 12 and 14 while we are at Disney. I'm learning a lot of great stuff from this board, and even finding out a couple things on my own.

I know about the "b-day pin" at the parks, for the day of the birthday. I was just talking to a CM at dining reservations (she tried really hard to get me a reservation for Sci Fi, but just couldn't do it unless we split 2 cars between the 3 of us- but I think she truly felt bad about it!) Anyway, she told me to call the hotel 2 weeks prior to our reservation to request a birthday phone call greeting and an autographed photo. I did just call the Pop (although I'm less than 2 weeks!) and the front desk said you don't call in advance for the phone greeting, just call the day you want it. But have the birthday person there- I guess they don't actually call you back, they do it when you call. Cool. As far as the photo (and any other little surprises) she said call back 6 days prior to arrival (no sooner) and they can then note it on the reservation.

I am going to get a cake and just bring it back to the room one of the nights we are there (the bdays are one day apart (and two years) but one cake night will suffice). I am bringing a Mickey Bday plastic table cloth for the little room table, and paper plates. Window clings. I bought 2 Tigger stuffed animals at the Disney Store, he is holding a Bday present and has a Bday hat on. (BTW- $4 each at the Disney Store, if anyone is looking for them). I bought them each a Disney Pillow case, I will swap their pillow cases when they aren't looking. I am just looking for little surprises to add for the whole trip. They are a little older, but who knows how long your kids will be "kids", so I want to do it up while I still can. If anyone has any other tips/suggestions, please fell free to share. I will add any others I come up with.

TIA, and have a magical day!

I believe it's $12 (but free if it's for a medical reason). I have read you can have stuff delivered, like groceries and bottled water, so I suppose a mini fridge would be ok. Don't know when you are going, but they have a few fridge swaps at the Pop.

I just wanted to chime in and say THANK YOU so much for this thread. I was a deluxe kind of gal before I went to POP. We stayed for a short visit and found the atmosphere at POP to be great for our little guy. I changed my ressies from CR to POP after staying there in July. I can not stress how convenient this resort is with children. The food court was invaluble. The fun atmosphere in the morning with games for the children started the day with magic and it just continued through the day. The pools and pop up jets were a huge hit and much better themed than the deluxe resorts IMO. The towel animals were plentiful and we had our room decorated every day. We leave in just under 2 weeks and I can not wait to see how we do this trip. I just thought I should put this out there for those who normally stay deluxe and were weary of trying a value. The bus system was great and the only resort that I have stayed at that matches POP is AKL. It is awesome and you save a bundle. The only thing I can say I missed was a hot tub. Otherwise I am sold on POP!!!

14 Days left more me.

Thank you Buckeye gal for all the hard work you've done compiling this information for us. We were originally booked at POFQ but had to downgrade due to finances. After following this thread I think I am more excited about staying at POP then I ever was at POFQ.

Have a great time!!! It's wonderful to hear about everyone's excitement before going to such a happy place!

:cheer2: A new home already!

Buckeye Gal - Thanx so much for all you do to keep this thread full of current information. Don't know how you do it! :worship: I've planned a few more trips than you but I still have to come back to this thread for info every time! :thumbsup2 Last month's trip was the best - and I know it was largely due to this thread!

Also wanted to say thanx to everyone for giving your honest opinions - good and bad. A lot of times I've learned what to watch out for because of the bad experiences that have been shared here. So, yes, it is helpful.

denisegold - You will have a blast with your girls at POP! We were belatedly celebrating DGD's 13th BD last trip and had a great time! (Just the 2 of us!) Definitely order the POP cake. Ours was the most delicious cake I've ever had - and I've had a few! :rolleyes1 Sorry you couldn't get the ADR for Sci-Fi. Have you checked into Coral Reef to see if you can get a personalized menu and diver? OR Kona Cafe for sticky wings and the Kona Kone? Both were big hits for DGD13.

IWISHFORDISNEY - I agree, if only we could get that hot tub at POP...:cloud9:

I agree this thread really helps alot. The first trip we made I got lots of inof off the original thread and learned so much. the next trip I knew alot, but by then we had the second thread with Buckeye girls famous first page. I read through it and leaned and reminded myself of some things and even had a better trip.
Without this Dis board I wouldn't have know half the things I knew about our trips either. Like the dining plan, which we have used both times and loved. And then I was able to research which resturants we would want to try and to make ADR's in advance.

36 days for me!!!!!

I am getting SO excited!

34 Days for us. Going with my Minnesota family!! See you there! We just LOVE POP!:hippie:

On the funny topic of towel animals, we always have bad luck reciving them. Is it because we don't have kids with us? On one 7 night stay we did not get a single one all week. Before our last day we left a note and a nicer tip requesting a towel animal. All the other rooms seemed to have them in their windows. :confused3

The maid did leave us a note... "I no work yesterday" and no animal. :sad1:

Thank you very much for saying that. I know you were worried we would loose sight of all the good info from the original thread when the "Groovier" thread was established (can you believe it) a year ago.

I think we've ALL done a great job of making Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the Groovier thread invaluable! So keep it coming!

As far as the fridge goes, this is what we did- when we placed our order with garden grocer or wegoshop we added a styrofoam cooler to our order. I think it was less than $5. We kept it iced up with free ice. It kept our milk, yogurt, fruit, some soda, water and a couple of deserts nice and cold- all for $5. We just left it in the room when we checked out.

What a fantastic idea! I'm posting that in my notes for next year. :thumbsup2

Hey there, Denise! I finally got around to adding your info to Post #1. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!!

I was trying to decide if I should order from garden grocer is it really expensive?! It will be our honeymoon and we are trying to save as much as we can. So eating breakfast and having snacks and drinks would save us.

You might want to check out their website as it has prices there for you.

Congratulations on the upcoming marriage!

We just made or POP reservation August 23-Sept 1, 2009. Because if this "groovy" thread I am 100% sure about going with POP. We are going to drive from Nova Scotia Canada (32 hours eek:scared1: ). Does anyone know the size of the fridges for rent? Or better yet, can anyone direct me to a thread? We are trying to decide whether to purchase one.

The info in Post 1, was clear and concise and I was able to get DH to read most of it. LOL. I am the planner in the family.

Thanks again for the wonderful thread.
