Just back from POR

We just returned home Monday from a too short trip (6 days, 5 nights - but it seemed shorter) :sad1:

POR was great. The room was immaculate when we arrived, and stayed that way all week. We received towel animals twice, and had my son's stuffed animals "arranged" once. The food court was good - I still prefer CBR. The make your own pasta was a great idea, and very tasty. I did make my way over to POFQ one morning for beignets. They were good, but sorry, don't know what the fuss is about. After that trip I was glad we weren't in FQ - looks much too cramped for us. Even the food court was tiny - very hard to move around the soft drink area.

Now, I have to say this, and I know I'll get flamed, but...
I read so many posts before our trip about how big this resort is, and how walking from the food court to the room was soooo long and tiring. Come on people!! We were in bldg 36 - which if you check a map is probably the furthest building from the main areas - and it is NOT a long walk. I would wander to the food court each morning for breakfast and to refill our mugs. I could do the entire trip in about half an hour - and I was not rushing. At a normal pace, I could make it to the food court in about 5 minutes. So, please, don't be put off by those comments. My morning walk to FQ took about 12 minutes...very pretty along the river while the sun is rising...

We didn't spend much time at the pool - one day for about an hour, and another evening for about 2 1/2 - but the kids loved the water slide. I did hear comments from other guests that the water was pretty cold. I didn't swim, but my kids were fine.

I would say our favorite moderate is still CBR - just a personal preference as I like the Caribbean theming better than the Orleans/bayou theming. POR is definitely a close second - won't stay at CSR again.

Any questions, let me know!

Glad you had a nice trip!

I have stayed at both CBR and POR (it's been a few years now). I agree with you though, the walks aren't bad. We never requested a specific area and I do not recall now what buildings we were in, but I never felt that we had to walk too far. The resorts are big, but I always enjoyed the grounds so much, part of the fun. Of course, I was a teenager then too. Further, when I'm at Disney World, I just seem to be in go-mode 100% of the time because I love it so much there. However, I can see where it would be troublesome for those that have trouble getting around.

Glad you had a wonderful stay at POR! It really holds a special place in our hearts and we, too, have fond memories of our stays there.

Thanks for taking the time to post your experience for everyone here!

So Glad your Trip went Well!!:thumbsup2
We've stayed in 3 MODs: POR, POFQ and CSR
and have to say that POR is our favorite out of the 3.
We are looking forward to staying at CBR and who knows
we may have a new favorite!!

Thank you for the great review- we will be at the POR in 7.5 days!!!! we took our first and only Disney trip in Jan to CBR- unfortunately for us it rained the majority of the stay and we even needed hats/mittens one day! Never had a chance to use the pool which was fine- it was under construction :lmao:

I can't wait to try the POR- hoping for warmer weather than Jan and a chance to enjoy the surroundings.

Glad the rooms were clean and things went well. I CANT WAIT!!

Glad you had a great trip. We're going to try the pasta the next time we wander over to the POR food court.

See ya there lilsydney! We will arrive around lunchtime on Friday!

I'm so excited to return to POR, my family just loves it there. No complaint in sight!! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for you report! I was wondering why people complain about the walk too.I never stayed onsite but did visit and we wanted to book there until we heard those scary long walk talks...GOOD TO KNOW! ps-what was wrong at csr?

Glad you had a great trip, we will be back to POR the 1st week of December. I totally agree with the whinning about walking, we have been at the back of POR and CSR, my family enjoys the walk. It gives us some time to unwind from the day and enjoy the resort scenery. I am starting to think that people(parents) just do not know how to relax on vacation anymore. jmo

Thanks for your review! We will be there Nov. 14-18 and it will be our first time at POR. I'm not worried about the long walks, I need the exercise! :cool1:

Cheers!

Kim

Do you remember the hours for the pasta bar and how much it costs?

Thank you for the great report….I have been nervous about our upcoming split stay.

How were the busses? Did you have any problems?

ps-what was wrong at csr?

We didn't have a horrible exprience at CSR - just didn't like the theming and the food court was not a good fit for us. It was just too confusing, and the CMs there were not helpful or friendly. I will say that CSR has the best pool of the mods (although I'm guessing the new CBR pool is great!)

I think it was for both lunch and dinner, but I had it for dinner. Don't know what time it closes - sorry! I'm pretty sure it was $9.99. That included a huge portion, and a breadstick (good breadstick :) )

We were very nervous about the busses, after reading several bad reports on these threads, so we decided to rent a car for the week (just over $100). However, we did ride the busses to MK both days, and they worked out great. Twice the bus was came just as we got to the stop, and we had to stand just one morning. It was a quick trip, too. I timed the actual ride at 8 minutes. I'm sure they can be hit and miss, though....

We are trying out our first mod POR Nov 30-Dec 6. Thank you for the great review:thumbsup2 I can't wait to get there!:cool1:

Glad you liked POR! DH and I love it and will be staying there for the 7th time in December! We love the grounds and really enjoy the walk. We have always been in the mansions (maybe because it is just the two of us) and love the quiet pools. They are just perfect for us! We also look forward to seeing Bob Jackson at the River Roost!! :cool1:
