Hicks on Holiday 2 - Done Brung the Kin Folk-Sept. 07 w/pics UPDATE 12/10/08 pg 41

Splash Mountain is my absolute favorite ride at Disney!!! I could do without the wet part, but I love the Brer Rabbit theme and such. I've never been on it when it breaks down. But, my LEAST favorite ride, It's a Small World, seems to break down EVERY time I ride it- UGH!!!

Funny from yesterday:

Driving through town last night I saw a Jeep with a license plate that said:

XXL HICK

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Must be one of our long lost relatives.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled activities.
;)

Brian talked me into going to see the Tiki birds a few years ago. I don't think Corey was born yet, so it's been awihle. UGGH! YUCK! But, we may attempt it this year. None of my kids have seen it. And, I guess they should see it ONCE in their lives...

I noticed that you guys installed a lovely ice skating pond in your backyard this winter! Very nice! Have you used it much??

(and, just so you know, I usually drive by your house at about 7:45 on Wednesday nights and beep :thumbsup2 )

And, do you like my new siggy picture!

I just found your trip report and read it in one sitting. Your doing too great of a job writing for me to break away. Can't wait to read more. Till then I guess I'm going to have to actually get up and do housework.

Yay another update!

Thanks! I wish everyone was so happy to see me all the time. LOL

Yeah, the theming is good. I just HATE sloshing around afterwards.
You don't like IASW??? Isn't that almost Disney Blasphemy?

Oh no you broke down in Splash, at least you weren't balanced at the top  :rotfl:

:scared1: Now that's a scary thought.

I'm not quite sure I can condone taking small children to Tiki. I guess you are the best judge of what is scary for them. ;)

Ahhh, the skating pond. Hmmm...well, you see, we didn't install that. It was a lovely gift from the city. We're thinking about having it removed, and feel that we might have a bit of a problem convincing them. :sad2:
If it turns into the cesspool of doom again this spring, they're definately going to recognize my name  :headache: and John's too. :cool2:

Oh, is that you beeping? LOL
I don't pay attention, because the neighbors always have someone coming and going.

Re: the picture - You guys are rockin' that beach. Sort of a Charlie's Angels vibe going on. LOL

Welcome! Southern Chicks are always welcome, as they probably know their share of hicks. LOL
Thanks for the encouragement. Hoping to do more updates this week! :thumbsup2

I donot know how I missed this Tr!:confused3 But I am glad I found it, even though I declared I was NOT going to subscribe to anymore TRs PTRs whatever until some of the ones I'm on were through and I was caught up on my own. By the way we went at the exact same time on our sons WISH trip and I saw ya'll at the Pirates Tutorial. We were in line for Cap Hook and Smee and I was waiting on Cap Jack to run through us (which he did:goodvibes ) to surprise the kids. We didn't go to the actual tutorial untill the next day, because we missed the start of that one. I do remember seeing ya'll because I thought man that family really blends in the crowd. Maybe they all ought to wear matching shirts are something>;) J/K I actually remember thinking what cute shirts they were. We were in our matching Making Braetons WIsh come True shirts and though there were only 4 of us. Braetons electric blue wheel chair with his light up wheels drew some stares at night.
Also we rode Splash 2 x that evening and it broke down on us both times!!!!!!!!! Yes I know if you sit still for it felt like 20 min WHY in the WORLD would you get back on????? Well it was our 5 year olds Wish trip and he wanted to SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO badly and since we were there for him...........Well....... Ya'll understand I'm sure!! I will say the DH stayed off the second go round and allowed me to ride with the kids;) Anyway we were probably on it together!:)

And though I live in Texas, lived and had both kids in La and went to Bible college in Ms. I am probabaly the furtherst thing frum a hick ya culd fin.
When my granpappy killed the pigs us kids only ate the bacon that was store bought (At least that was what we thought!!!) And FlyLady now has me wearing shoes inside the house (at least part of the time!!!) so I only go barefoot outside. But I can run just as fast barefooted as in shoes and I can also walk around all day in heels like a good southern Lady. And I'm proud to say that our rode is now part gravel and part pavement so no dirt roads for me!! And people from the North usually only have to ask me repeat myself 4 times to understand what I'm saying. So I hope ya'll don't turn me away because I'm turning citified on ya'll!!;)

This is an absolutly FANTASTIC report. You are an awesome writer. Reeled me in on the first couple of sentences. I needed to write an update on my TR but the few in. I've had the past few days have been spent on this one. I couldn't even just read the updates, NOOOO I had to read most of the chitchat cause it was so interesting.
Your kids are adorable and YOU are very artistic Ma'am with your painted pumpkins:thumbsup2 .
So cool so many of ya'll got to go but sorry for the sick ones on the way there:sick:
Can;t wait for the rest!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

Welcome Lee Lee! I have read some of your report, but have a lot to catch up on. I mentioned there that my MIL is hoping for a kidney transplant.
She has a rare blood type and other complications, but we are holding out hope.
Knowing that your dh has gone so long gives me more hope. :)

No need to offer proof of hick-ness here.
All hicks are welcome in this "Hick Safe Zone." :rolleyes1

I didn't realize you were there the exact same time! How cool!
We had such a great time, even with such a large crew.
I actually looked around MK on our last night and sighed because there was nothing left that I hadn't done that I wanted to do. It was a good trip. :goodvibes

Hoping to update more soon!

Thanks for reading!

Oh the proof was of my "non" hickdom!!;) :rotfl:

I knew you had been on my TR but wasn't sure if you were the one with the Mom in law in need of a kidney or not. I meant to check. So sorry, my bad!! How is she doing? I can't stress enough how important it is to follow that horrible dialysis diet as close as possible. When my DH was faithfull he didn't have as many problems as he is having right now although I do have to say he is starting to follow it a WHOLE lot better now. If she likes fresh apple cake let me know because I have a delicious the whole family in law up in Ms ate it up without knowing it was dialysis friendly and it didn't have the nuts. Of course we WERE in Ms:rolleyes: and you know it was edible so it might not hae been as good as I thought it was!!!:rotfl:
I've even brought it to church functions and they like it too but then again I go to a little country church and we like our food!!! Of course you know they say Country people are the ones who CAN COOK!!
Is she also diabetic??? I can't remember, but I have a few of those too. Let me know and I can PM or email you some if you want, but ya'll might have plenty.
Your report is making me feel good. I was feeling bad because I am still on day 3 of our trip , but UH HUM. We went at the same time and I'm a day ahead of you so I'm feeling pretty good now.
THank You, Thank You , Thank you very much!!

:goodvibes

:cool1: All caught up!!!:woohoo:

I'm a homeschool mom of 3 (4th grade, 7th grade and ....ugh..10th grade!!)

Even though I live in NJ I live in the "Hick" part of NJ. We have farms and signs that say "Muskrat meat for sale". Sometimes local fireman arrive at the firehouse via tractor and my favorite our local bait shop is our favorite ice cream place:rotfl2: .... yep...definitely not Soprano-land here:rotfl2:

Great trip report!! I'm looking forward to reading the rest!:thumbsup2

It has been a long time since I checked in to read about the "Hicks on Holiday". I have enjoyed catching up! I never did get brave enough to do my own trip report, but I do enjoy reading everyone else's :thumbsup2

Your kids are so cute! It sounds like you guys had a really great trip so far! Can't wait to read the rest!

As I was reading along and trying to get caught up, there were several things I was going to comment on, but lo and behold I can't remember what they were now :confused3 I did Love your Pumpkins for Halloween though!! And your matching shirts :) Your dd is a good photographer also.

Now, I just can't wait to read the rest of the trip. Don't quit on us now. Just think how cool it will be to look back and reread your finished trip report a few years from now :cloud9:

There are two kinds of Hicks. Hicks, and Hicks in denial.
:lmao:

MIL is not diabetic, but has long term kidney damage from cancer treatments.
I haven't been back to check out your report. Have you finished it yet?
I'm gonna attempt an update today.

Extra Cheese Please! and That's Babycakes, with a B.

Magic Kingdom, 9/18/07 (2nd park day)

[The Extra Chees Please portion of this report has been postponed,
as my dd pointed out the event in question did not occur until later.
My bad. We now continue with That's Babycakes, with a B.]

When we last left the Hicks, they were meandering their way toward the entrance hub to pick out a location for viewing wishes.

Our plan has always been, watch the fireworks as close to the exit as possible.

We still get caught in the mass of humanity that IS Magic Kingdom at closing,
and tend to not be the fastest group, due to sheer size and the double stroller,
but we hope that the proximity to the exit will give us
a bit of an advantage over those caught in the nightmare near the castle.

We deposited small children, John, and Mom in the little flagpole hub,
and Bionic SIL and I headed to Le Chapeau to aquire some hats.

All of my children have monogrammed Mickey ears, with the exception of Babycakes.
May I just say, these women who do the monograms freak me out
with their speed and precision.
Babycakes name is a very unusual spelling of an already not too common name.
I had it all written out to make sure they got it right.
The lady took one glance at the name, and then whipped right through it without error.
:wizard:
SIL's kids' names were done with equal speed, and we were ready to head back to the group.
BUT...since no one actually KNEW we were done, we decided to take a detour through the Confectionary.
Candy stores, sans children, are the way to go,
as you can appreciate the sights and sounds and smells so much more
when there are not little hands pointing and grabbing and little mouths begging.
We didn't end up getting anything there, but it sure was fun to look. :thumbsup2

We got back to the group in time for several small people to need to use the bathroom.
No big surprise, as it was their goal to hit every bathroom in WDW.
This time, it was NO problem,
because another reason we like to watch the fireworks at this location,
is because of the ginormous bathrooms nearby.

No lines at that location!!!! :thumbsup2

We settled in at our little spot, as the sky grew increasingly darker.

Doesn't it just give you chills when they start saying "Wishes will begin in 15 minutes?"
And the first strains of music "star light, star bright..."
I get choked up thinking about it.

I had asked Bionic SIL before the trip if they wanted to see the fireworks,
and she was up for that, so I was hoping they would decide it was worth it.

They did!!! :dance3:

SIL had tears in her eyes when it was all done, and felt it was the best fireworks she had ever seen. :goodvibes

We headed toward the bus stop,
remembering then that it is the
FARTHEST FREAKIN BUS STOP from Magic Kingdom.
But, we made it, and, in true Disney style, they brought buses 2 at a time until we were on.
We made it back to the resort in due time, and dragged our bottoms back to the room.
Collapsing for the night, we marvelled that we still had many, many more days to enjoy WDW.

And since I have no pics for this portion, I will give you preview for tomorrow:

Next up: The Theme Park Formerly Known as MGM

I have got to see Wishes! I've never seen it before! We sort of watched some of it the last time we were there, but the loud fireworks were freaking Tessa out and I had to take her into the bathroom until it was over.

We had a different experience with the hat embroiderers. I wanted Tessa's first and middle name on the hat. They said that wasn't a problem. But, they kept goofing up the "e" at the end of her name and had to redo it a bunch of times. She kept trying to give it to me with the "e" 1/2 way unraveled. She got a little perturbed at me, to say the least.

Okay, I'm sooooo into reading this truly hilarious TR but...WHERE, OH, WHERE...is the rest??? I/We (DBF and I) are fairly new to the DIS boards as far as actually posting things, but I am addicted to reading TR's and cannot wait for your next post! I know I've read that people can subsribe to these things, but how would one go about doing that? Anyways, forget about teaching those kids and get typing please! :flower3:

Nevermind about subscribing, when I went to post I saw the drop-down box. I am a smartie!

Thanks! [Love your Eyeore in your siggie! He's my fav!]

To bad about the hat!
You DO have to see Wishes! Oooo, it's so good! Hopefully the kids will be ok about it. My kids don't freak out about fireworks at WDW, even though they do at home. Go figure.
Staying near the exit helps a bit.
Are you packed yet? LOL
Want to get together for a play date before you go? :)

Wow, thanks! I told my kids this a.m. that they are going to have to help me piece it all together, b/c I can't remember as well as I thought I would. Sigh.

Hey, guess what!
We DO have pics of that evening!

DisneyGirl to the rescue!

The Theme Park Formerly Known as MGM
Park day 3 - MGM aka Disney Hollywood Studios - Wednesday, 9/19/07

It was a new day, and the Hicks were saying in their very best American Idol imitations:
"We're headed for Hollywood, Baby!"

Well more correctly:
"We're headed for the Hollywood that never was, and always will be, Baby!"
[Wouldn't ya like to know who came up with that cryptic slogan?]

It was a drizzly, dreary day, but we weren't too intimidated,
as MGM is not a bad place to be in the rain.

Unlike Epcot.

[Foreshadowing alert, Foreshadowing alert.]

We trudged to the buses,
took a very quick trip to MGM,
and trudged into the park.

[Word to the wise, if you like MGM and Epcot,
Pop is a great location without paying for a deluxe.
It only takes a few minutes to get there.]

We had made it before opening,
which usually is a good thing,
but on a rainy day just caused us to have to stand in the rain for longer.

We dragged out our rain ponchos and umbrellas...and hilarity ensued.

Well, actually, I wasn't laughing. :sad2:

The kids thought it was big fun to twirl around with their umbrellas.

The crowd around us was at risk of losing an eye.

:scared1:

So the umbrellas were confiscated.

Disney Girl, for one, was very well behaved and used her time to snap a couple of pics:

Blurry, but a good example of the skies over Hollywood:

My one secret to MGM touring is "Zig when they Zag."
Usually everyone turns right when the rope drops,
and heads for Tower of Terror, and Rockin' Roller Coaster.

The Hicks, on the other hand, head another direction,
usually to a fairly empty park.

And even though RnR was closed for refurb that day,
the crowd still followed the theory.

So we headed to the Hick tradtional first ride at MGM....

Next up:
Everybody sing: "Let's Go to the Movies, Let's go see the Stars..."
