Everybody sing: "Let's Go to the Movies, Let's go see the Stars..."
Park day 3 - MGM aka Disney Hollywood Studios -
Wednesday, 9/19/07 - Part 2
When we last left our slightly soggy Hicks,
they were sloshing along from the rope drop
to our favorite first ride at the park formerly known as MGM:
The Great Movie Ride.
I don't know what it is about this ride, but it is a must do for us.
Maybe it's because it's one of the things I remember
from my very first trip to MGM on our honeymoon.
At the time there wasn't a BIG HAT,
[Note: This pic was from a previous, less rainy trip.]
And Mann's Replica Chinese Theatre was the focal point of the park.
There wasn't TOT or R n R or LMA or Fantasmic
[We ask ourselves what DID we do in that park all day???]
and everyone streamed toward TGM.
Maybe it's because we LOVE movies,
and it's a little fantasy to be inside all of those classic films.
No matter what the reason,
we were really excited to share it with our newbies,
and so it's where we headed first.
The rain had reallly picked up,
and we were feeling a bit cold and damp
(considering the heat on the drier parts of the trip,
the cooler part was not a bad thing,
but the damp part really bites.)
We worked ourselves past all of the cool movie props
(never enough time to check these out properly!)
and found ourselves in an empty queue (sp?) with one couple joining us.
Sarah's Evil Touring Plan is Victorious once again!!!
We were escorted in to the rolling theater seats,
not even leaving us enough time to enjoy
the film clips that were showing in the lobby.
I can't remember if we rode this twice this trip,
but if not, this was the first time we've ever had a female "host"
for the middle part of the trip.
[I won't disclose any more, so as to not spoil it for anyone who hasn't ridden it yet.]
I think Mom liked a lot of this ride.
She recognized some of the movies, like Wizard of Oz.
Bionic SIL and her crew thought it was cool.
This was a great ride for my group.
Much better than one of our previous trips
where I was in a row with two little boys who were crying hysterically
at the noisy scariness
and had two babies asleep on me.
Good times, good times.
Ahem...
Anyway, we disembarked from our movie going experience,
and decided to continue the magic by heading over to Star Tours.
To get there, we took the street that goes by ABC Comissary.
Pictures of this street make me feel really nostalgic for MGM.
I don't know why, but it just seems to capture that MGM feeling.
In person...not so much.
Of course, since ABC Comissary has a bathroom, we had to stop.
Ah yes, the great WDW bathroom tour continues!
I used that opportunity to look at the cool LOST displays.
[2 hr. Season Finale, this Thurs., 9 pm,
preceded by an enhanced, footage added version
of the episode from two weeks ago at 8 pm.
Be there, or be square.]
Moving on through the drizzle (oh yes, it is STILL drizzling), we proceed on to Star Tours.
Don't you wish you could climb around the set of Star Tours?
My family always wistfully eyes all of the Ewok village,
and the giant AT-AT.
as if it were a big play yard. Sigh.
Did I mention we are geeks?
We went around the side of the Back Lot restaurant,
and positioned Mom and the littles out of the rain.
Standing in line for Star Tours (Wait time posted, 10 min!),
we made friends with a very lovely little old lady from Ireland.
That conversation made our short wait even shorter.
I so enjoy meeting people from other countries,
and WDW is the perfect, most friendly place to do so.
May I just say that all of the theming of this ride
just does good to the heart of us Star Wars fans.
We boarded our space ship only to find our pilot was a first timer!
Our lady friend from Ireland squealed and laughed
in the most hysterical manner the entire trip,
which gave us the giggles.
I would have enjoyed the trip even more if
the guy next to me hadn't set his water bottle ON THE FLOOR,
which then proceeded to fly around
and hit my foot the entire time. Sigh.
THERE ARE BASKETS FOR YOUR POSSESIONS PEOPLE!!!!
Space trip concluded,
we headed back to find ever-patient Mom and her charges.
[Did I mention she was a SAINT this trip?
And she doesn't even read the Dis to see me say that!]
We decided it was time again for a group activity,
and I had just the activity in mind!
Next up: A Pig, a Bear and a Frog walk into a movie...Wacka, Wacka, Wacka....
