Hicks on Holiday 2 - Done Brung the Kin Folk-Sept. 07 w/pics UPDATE 12/10/08 pg 41

I love Wishes too and you're right the crowds once it's finished are ridiculous

Oh no MGM in the rain :sad2:

DisneyMom5plus, if you found the crowds hard to handle after Wishes you have only yourself to blame ya know? :rotfl: You had preferred, perfectly positioned seats with pleasant company and no wait time at all. :rotfl2: My second favorite place to view Wishes from is at the Poly beach. The view is totally awesome, never any crowds and no fighting to get to the buses. I will be there in September, wish I could save you a seat.

DisneyJo, I never follow the crowd. I go against the flow. :dance3: I keep my seat, visit with other like minded folks and then saunter to the buses. If you hurry you just get to stand in line waiting for a bus with a seat. If you ain't got speed it is good to have a brain. If only I could remember where I left mine. :confused3

It would be fun to adopt a grandma for a night. :thumbsup2

Yeah for updates! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear where you headed off to at MGM!

Love MGM, I mean DISNEY Hollywood Studios.

What happened to the rest of the TR???? :confused3

It's coming, It's coming. Life has a funny way of interupting trip reports. LOL

I can't believe I missed your last updates!

I'm having cute kid picture withdrawl, so we neeed more pics of the kids in the next update!!

I agree that Epcot is pretty miserable in the rain. Everything is so far apart!

I would have loved to have a play date before we left, but now it's only 6 days until we go! :scared1: I'm really excited!!!

I'm planning to write a TR and I'm going to take a little notepad with me to jot things down on. That's the plan, anyway! Did I tell you we got 10 day park hoppers? We did- 10 days!!!

When is it coming? It's been almost two months!!!! I know your Busy with all SEVEN KIDS!:scared1: Just looking for an update

LOL. I'm thinking about it. :)

I'm beginning to wonder if you'll finish this TR before your next trip...;)

Big talk Miss "I'm all full of myself because I'm doing a joint trip report with my sister and I'm just getting started and just wait and see if I can keep up this pace until my trip report is done."

LOL. I'm thinking about it. :)

The only reason I ask is because the next time we head out it is going to be in September. I am trying to hit every season there, not looking forward to the summer one:lmao: .
So how was the weather in Sept. I see that there was a lot of rain?? Free dining boy I hope we get that. I am going to have to re read through the report to see how the crowd level was. It really couldn't be as bad as it was for Christmas. There were 60 min waits for rides. Did you do tourguide mike?
Hope to see an update soon!

Everybody sing: "Let's Go to the Movies, Let's go see the Stars..."
Park day 3 - MGM aka Disney Hollywood Studios -
Wednesday, 9/19/07 - Part 2

When we last left our slightly soggy Hicks,
they were sloshing along from the rope drop
to our favorite first ride at the park formerly known as MGM:
The Great Movie Ride.

I don't know what it is about this ride, but it is a must do for us.

Maybe it's because it's one of the things I remember
from my very first trip to MGM on our honeymoon.

At the time there wasn't a BIG HAT,

DCP_0005.jpg

[Note: This pic was from a previous, less rainy trip.]

And Mann's Replica Chinese Theatre was the focal point of the park.
There wasn't TOT or R n R or LMA or Fantasmic
[We ask ourselves what DID we do in that park all day???]
and everyone streamed toward TGM.

Maybe it's because we LOVE movies,
and it's a little fantasy to be inside all of those classic films.

No matter what the reason,
we were really excited to share it with our newbies,
and so it's where we headed first.

The rain had reallly picked up,
and we were feeling a bit cold and damp
(considering the heat on the drier parts of the trip,
the cooler part was not a bad thing,
but the damp part really bites.)

We worked ourselves past all of the cool movie props
(never enough time to check these out properly!)
and found ourselves in an empty queue (sp?) with one couple joining us.

Sarah's Evil Touring Plan is Victorious once again!!!
:thumbsup2

We were escorted in to the rolling theater seats,
not even leaving us enough time to enjoy
the film clips that were showing in the lobby.

I can't remember if we rode this twice this trip,
but if not, this was the first time we've ever had a female "host"
for the middle part of the trip.
[I won't disclose any more, so as to not spoil it for anyone who hasn't ridden it yet.]

I think Mom liked a lot of this ride.
She recognized some of the movies, like Wizard of Oz.

Bionic SIL and her crew thought it was cool.

This was a great ride for my group.
Much better than one of our previous trips
where I was in a row with two little boys who were crying hysterically
at the noisy scariness
and had two babies asleep on me.

Good times, good times.

Ahem...
Anyway, we disembarked from our movie going experience,
and decided to continue the magic by heading over to Star Tours.

To get there, we took the street that goes by ABC Comissary.
Pictures of this street make me feel really nostalgic for MGM.
I don't know why, but it just seems to capture that MGM feeling.

In person...not so much. :confused3

Of course, since ABC Comissary has a bathroom, we had to stop.

:rolleyes1

Ah yes, the great WDW bathroom tour continues!

I used that opportunity to look at the cool LOST displays.

[2 hr. Season Finale, this Thurs., 9 pm,
preceded by an enhanced, footage added version
of the episode from two weeks ago at 8 pm.
Be there, or be square.]

Moving on through the drizzle (oh yes, it is STILL drizzling), we proceed on to Star Tours.

Don't you wish you could climb around the set of Star Tours?
My family always wistfully eyes all of the Ewok village,
and the giant AT-AT.
as if it were a big play yard. Sigh.

Did I mention we are geeks? :wizard:

We went around the side of the Back Lot restaurant,
and positioned Mom and the littles out of the rain.

Standing in line for Star Tours (Wait time posted, 10 min!),
we made friends with a very lovely little old lady from Ireland.

That conversation made our short wait even shorter.
I so enjoy meeting people from other countries,
and WDW is the perfect, most friendly place to do so.

May I just say that all of the theming of this ride
just does good to the heart of us Star Wars fans.

We boarded our space ship only to find our pilot was a first timer! :scared1:

:lmao:

Our lady friend from Ireland squealed and laughed
in the most hysterical manner the entire trip,
which gave us the giggles. :hyper:

I would have enjoyed the trip even more if
the guy next to me hadn't set his water bottle ON THE FLOOR,
which then proceeded to fly around
and hit my foot the entire time. Sigh.

THERE ARE BASKETS FOR YOUR POSSESIONS PEOPLE!!!!

Space trip concluded,
we headed back to find ever-patient Mom and her charges.
[Did I mention she was a SAINT this trip?
And she doesn't even read the Dis to see me say that!]

We decided it was time again for a group activity,
and I had just the activity in mind!

:3dglasses

Next up: A Pig, a Bear and a Frog walk into a movie...Wacka, Wacka, Wacka....

The only reason I ask is because the next time we head out it is going to be in September. I am trying to hit every season there, not looking forward to the summer one:lmao: .

Update is up! Thanks for the kick in the patootie.

It was very, very excruiatingly hot.
Rainier this time, but not unbearable.
The typical day is showers in the afternoon.
You go into a ride, and come out to find everything soaked,
but the sun back out again.
Even if it rains in the morning, it almost always quits for a while during the day.

We put up with the heat for the food. It is really worth it for us.
If you mean Sept. '08 (which I suspect you don't) the sale is already up and almost done.
If you mean '09, the free dining sale usually breaks around April.

I don't do Tourguide Mike, but I do read the Unofficial Guide.
Going in Sept., as long as you follow the basic rules of any touring guide:
get there early, avoid EMH park (or parkhop in the afternoon), use fast passes -- you will be fine.
The longest wait we had was around 25 minutes
for Soarin' during a pm emh, and from what I hear, that wasn't bad.

Happy to answer any other questions about Sept.!

:rotfl2: I'm already slacking. It's not easy!!

Just read the update! It was great!!!! You did your update while I did mine.

Yes I did mean Sept 09. I think I will book in Jan, and I heard that you can just add it in when it gets announced. I have a Disney Visa so we get first notice. We went in may and Dh hated the heat! I am afraid that is is going to be the same this time coming. He loved the weather in Dec! I found it great too! 80-85 sunny no rain. I think we had rain one day and that was christmas afternoon. And as you said you go in a ride and it is done when you come out. OOOHHHH to only wait 25 minutes for a ride!:worship: We were waiting for 60-90 minutes for a ride. Universal it was like 90-120 minutes for rides.

Yay for the Hicks! I was hoping the boutquing sistas would encourage you to update. :)

1. I remember going one of the first years it was open and thinking "Is this it?"

2. We also had a female host on TGM. She was older, too, probably in her 60's. It was kind of cool!

3. Oh yeah, you know I'll be there!!

4. :confused3 :confused3 Obviously, I am ignorant to all things Star Wars. I do know what an Ewok is, though.

Oh my goodness! Is it...could it be...an update?!?! Excellent one I may add. I was wondering when you were going to return. Funny how you mentioned all the things that weren't there last time you went to MGM (DHS). We think there isn't much to do now, but that comment makes me realize how far it's come. Plus Toy Story Mania just opened and the American Idol experience will be there next year. That's what we love about WDW. This will be our third year in a row going and there have been new things each year plus the old classics to enjoy! I hope you guys get to go again soon. If you go in September you know we'll be there also enjoying the free food and trying to stay hydrated in the heat! We could have a DIS meet!

:rotfl2: I'm already slacking. It's not easy!!

See how you are???
Not even competition from your older, over-achieving sister can keep you motivated!

Yup. Free Food, and low lines. Is it not worth a little bit of sweat?

Yay for the Hicks! I was hoping the boutquing sistas would encourage you to update. :)

Yes, I am living in fear of those Disboutiquing sistahs finishing up their trip report, which took place 8 months after mine, before I do. Sheesh.

Ya mean you actually DO watch LOST??? Yah, I wasn't buying that you "accidently" named your kid Sawyer.

:duck:

There always is something new, thankfully! Though, we haven't even done all of a the old stuff yet, and we've been there three times as a family!

That's just part of the magic! :wizard:

Thanks for reading all!

You shamed me into it, I updated my TR!

:ssst: Don't tell Henry! :lmao:
I LOVE Lost. But, I honestly didn't name Sawyer after that character with the ruggedly handsome good looks and long flowing mane. Of course, it didn't hurt! :thumbsup2
