people who bring their dogs in stores with them-RANT!

Call your state board of health office. They can tell you what the local ordinances are regarding pets in stores. If it is a frequent infraction, they will be happy to make a surprise visit to the store!

Last week we went to Panera Bread for lunch and the woman in front of me had her dog in her large purse with it's head sticking out! A RESTAURANT!?!??!:confused3 The employees didn't say anything to her and other customers were oogling her cute pooch... but I was appalled.

I work in a HOSPITAL and you would be surpised how many people try to walk right in the front door with their dogs. When I stop them they will try to say it's a service dog. Obviously they never have paper work to prove this. At times they will make allowances for dogs but it has to go thru proper channels for approval upon showing proof of vaccinations and what not. One guy almost got in an actual physical fight over "his right" to bring his mother's dog to her. It's just disgusting how selfish people are because that's what it comes down to. It is their dog and they are going to bring it where they want and not care if it bothers anyone else. People have become so uncaring, self centered and narrow minded. They don't care if their dog triggers some poor kids allergies and causes his airway to close! It disgusts me. I love dogs, I have 3 but I would never do something that could cause someone else harm because of it.

I hope you folks never travel outside the US.

Bringing your dog everyplace with you is an accepted part of the culture in a lot of places. So while you sit a dinner so does Fido. While you shop so does Fido.....

My DH works at Target and he has told people they can't bring dogs in the store; they've had several people bring in the little "toy" size dogs. And he says the people get all upset when he tells them they have to take the dog out of the store. But his store has a firm policy on this and will make the people take their dogs out.

Good. I'm glad they do this. :thumbsup2 There is no need to bring dogs into the store.

I just had this happen last week at work. I work retail, and some idiot broght her dog in in a stroller. You could hear the dog barking all across the store. I paged the manager on duty, and she didn't want to deal with it, so she paged another manager. He couldn't have cared less, and never said anything to the lady with the dog. And he told me he didn't understand why I was so mad. I felt bad for the dog, and isn't having a dog in a retail establishment a health code violation?:confused3 I never though about people with allergies, I wish I would have thought of that and told him that reason.

Some people are just idiots.

This is very true. I remember being at the vet with my dog once and I struck up a conversation with another lady there. She told me that they frequently travel in Europe. They bring the dog with them. She said her dog has eaten at some of the finest restaurants in Europe!

Good for him! My husband works at Target, too, and his store is in a high-end area where girls wear their "purse puppies" everywhere. He has had to enforce this rule several times, and usually the women get all angry and offended, but RULES ARE RULES! I bet the cashier at the OP's store either did not know about this rule or didn't care. It is definitely a company-wide policy, so shame on them. OP: thanks for following up and calling management. It helps keep them accountable!

When I worked at Denny's we had one woman bring a toy sized terrier in and insist that we allow the dog ON the table because she claimed he was a service dog. She didn't have any paperwork and when asked what the dog did she said he helped keep her clean by licking up the crumbs.:headache:

There's no such thing as paperwork proving a dog is a service animal (you can get such a thing, but it's NOT a requirement), and what you asked her is illegal. Your store was VERY lucky she didn't go after you guys (sounds like it wasn't a true service dog, thank goodness) b/c asking such questions is not OK under the ADA. (nor should it be, and please note that I have moved OUT of a building b/c of a woman absolutely cheating the system with big scary untrained possessive protective (of the whole building) "service dogs" that she never took with her...I researched it to see if there was anything I could do, but ultimately I'm glad the ADA is strong for the people who need it, even though there are sneaks that get by)

Dogs are allowed in Petco/PetSmart.

Service animals are allowed anywhere.

Other then that it is just rude to bring an animal, NO MATTER the size into a store or restaurant!

It is a huge pet peeve of mine. I love dogs, but I have a feeling if I went walking into a store with my 200 lb Great Dane, or my 70 lb Siberian Husky, I would get the boot really fast.

Yes my dogs might look "scarier" then someone's Bichon Frise or Pug, but they are all DOGS. NOT babies, not kids who cant be left alone, they are DOGS.

And dogs of any breed (unless service animals) should not be allowed in stores or restaurants!

I dont want to put my kid in a basket that your dog just licked or worse in.

And NO, carrying the dog in your purse or dog carrier does not make a difference.

No Shirts
No Shoes
No Animals
No Service!

Ok getting off my soap box now. This is just one that really makes me angry. Ever since I went to put my infant son's cart cover on a shopping cart & someone else stopped me telling me she just saw some woman's dog poop in another cart & all the employee did was wipe it off with a paper towel & put it back with the rest! EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW! And ever since then I have been paraniod, even with a cart cover, to let my son go in a cart!

This by far is my biggest pet peeve. I HATE dog people. I don't mind dogs but I can't stand the people who think that everyone should love and adore there dog like they do so they take it everywhere. PLEASE IT'S A DOG NOT A PERSON!!!!! I had a friend who when she hit the empty nest stage got a Papion and carried it everywhere!! :scared1: She even brought it to my house unannounced when she came to visit for 3 days. Then couldn't understand why I was upset. I haven't mentioned that at the time I had 2 cats and a child with autism. She couldn't understand why my DD with Autism was sooooo wound up? Lets just say we had a long talk about it and then before she came the next time I sent and e-mail. She finally got the idea and hasn't brought the dog again.

I feel quite similar, though I don't necessarily HATE dog people, they just drive me insane! We don't have dogs because we have so many allergies, but I do enjoy other peoples' dogs so to speak. The one thing I can't stand though is when people think a dog is a substituite for a child. It's your own choice whether or not to have children, but please people if you want to have a "baby" to push around in a stroller please have/adopt an actual baby! :confused3

Some friends of ours have two yellow labs whom they treat like children. Everyday Avery and Ruby go to daycare and their picture is even on their Christmas card. They talk about them they way I talk about my children, maybe even more frequently saying "Oh, you would not believe what Ruby did today..." To top it all off, here's exactly what they say on their answering machine, "You've reached the home of (their names), Avery and Ruby (last name). We're not home right now, if you'd like to leave a message for anyone of us please wait until after the beep. Thank You!" :rotfl2:

Has anyone here seen the movie Best in Show? It's a must watch if you haven't, an absolute riot about "dog people".

We were at the Osborne Lights the week of Thanksgiving and my friend pointed out the "carriage" It looked SOMEWHAT like a baby carriage but had netting attached. There was a dog!!! inside. The only reason she thought to look was because her neighbor at home has one and walks her dog in it. I couldn't believe there was a dog at the Disney Studios. This was definately NOT a service dog.

I hope it pooped in her purse. Would've served her right.

I would also think (but I tend to assume the BEST about people) that people who truly need a service dog are NOT going to abuse the system. They'll use the animal within the confines of the specifications. Plus, I would also think that a service animal has had enough obediance training to NOT sit on a table, NOT bark, in general NOT misbehave. I've personally never seen an out of control, legitimate service dog. I doubt they exist....

I'm guessing that most people who whine about their "baby" being a service animal aren't ones who really need one. What do they say about where there's smoke, there's fire?

And are you saying that it's against the law for an establishment to ASK if a service dog is legitimate???

The mother of one of DS14's classmates constantly has her dog with her. It sits on her lap while she drives, she lets it loose in the school, and she's even taken it in to local businesses. Recently I noticed these businesses have put up signs on the front doors forbidding animals, except for service animals. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Shih-tzu's aren't generally trained to be service animals. The dog is so ill behaved. It runs wild, yapping non-stop. If anyone complains, she says she can't control him and isn't he cute? :confused3 He might be cute, but his behavior isn't and neither is hers.

Oh, this happened to me at CVS today. I am a HUGE dog person and have two myself. However, I wouldn't even think about bringing them to a pharmacy! I turned to her and said " I wonder if I could bring my shepard in here?" she said "probably not". I let it go at that. Just because your dog is cute it does not belong in CVS! The cashier was annoyed and said she had to find out the policy on dogs in stores.

You hate me?? I am a "dog person" and I would never bring a dog into a store. I find this kind of harsh but I do agree with you, dogs are dogs, not humans (as much as I love my dogs).

I saw a dog in a stroller at WDW once - I think it was a chihuahua. And it was wearing a little vest that said "service dog" on it. I'm not really sure what type of "service" it was doing. It was awfully cute and I will confess that I love dogs and maybe it really was a service dog but it was causing many, many raised eyebrows among the WDW guests.

I dare you, No make that DOUBLE DOG DARE you to call and leave a message just for the dogs :lmao: I'm going shopping at walmart tonight maybe I should bring my small dog with me?? how about cats? can I bring those along too??

The only place I take my dog is when we go for a walk around the lake. They are welcome there as long as I clean up her poop. :rolleyes1

:rotfl2:

That's a good idea, I can't believe we've never thought of that! :lmao: I started laughing when I read this. Sometime when they're away we really have to do that, maybe we'll use my DS's phone so they don't know it's us. I already have some ideas:

idea #1 "Hello, I'm calling from American Express. Avery (last name) has been pre-approved for a new gold card, canine edition. There are lots of perks, including a gold rubber toy just for applying, and a dog bed after the first purchase. Please call 1-800-DOG-AMEX"
idea #2 "Hi this is your new neighbor from down the street. I saw that you have a two labs, boy and girl I'm guessing. I have two Golden Retirevers myself and I was wondering if we could hook up for a playdate, I'll try calling again. How does next weekend sound? Mine go to daycare so weekdays don't work, talk to you soon!"

...Or something along those lines! :rotfl:
