Wal-Mart price match

Went to Wal-Mart today. I have been shopping at wal-mart for the last 2 months. I started shopping there because my BF said wal-mart will price match everyones ads. So I went to wal-mart like I always do.

I bought a bunch of groceries and then my price match stuff. I had an ad for ground beef 1.99 lb (85% lean) I got the cheapest ground beef wal-mart had (75% lean). They would not match the price. They said it was not EXACT. I told them the exact was 1.00 more per pound. :confused3

Then I had eggs--Grade A Large eggs the ad said. It did not have a brand listed, for $1.50. Wal-marts cheapest grade A large eggs were $1.98 they would not match this either. "because the ad does not list a brand".

Then, now here is the kicker. I had boneless sirloin pork chops $1.99 per pound, if you buy 3 lbs or more. I got the Wal-mart family value pack of Sirloin, boneless pork chops (the cost at wal-mart was 2.48 lb). the Customer Service Manager went back to ask the meat dept which one and she brought back...The same thing EXCEPT smaller 1-2lb packages. I said the ad says family pack - so that is what I got and this is $2.98 lb so you are giving me something that cost more. She said "that is what I will do". I said okay. :confused3

The cashier said "Wal-Mart doesn't really price match. They just say that to get people to shop there"

This is the first time I have EVER had a problem with the price match at wal-mart. Of course I have only been doing this for a couple of months. I guess they price match when they need customers and do not price match when they do not want customers.

I will go back to shopping at the store with the ad. Wal-mart took an hour and a half today. That is just to long to grocery shop. I could have gone to all three stores (that I had ads for) in less time. Since they are on the same street one right after the other with Wal-Mart in the middle). Wal-Mart is rude and will not carry my groceries out for me. Brookshires carries the groceries out, triples coupons and is nice. I guess I will go back to getting my groceries there. Wal-mart price match just isn't worth the hastle.

Has anyone else experienced this.

No, but WalMart isn't a grocery store or supermarket - that, combined with the stores not carrying out customers' non-food purchases, would indicate to me that they would not carry out groceries, either.

I would never price match walmart for groceries of the type you purchased, because it is NOT exact they do not have to honor it. Eggs, milk and meat will never be exact. If I were going to do it maybe for a boxed item or something, but it is supposed to be exact. I think some are probably more lenient then others.

I would not expect walmart to carry out groceries, that is not a service they offer, you pay for that in the price of your groceries at the other chains (and honestly along with the coupon deal). If you took everything at regular price of course the grocery store is going to come up way higher, thus the wages for the baggers and carry out help and difference in coupons.

Around here most stores say in their ad that they will price match but it is a pain and not worth it, they'll say we are not within 3 miles, not same catagory of store (so target and circuit city won't match other, none of them will match walmart, etc). It is rediculous quite honestly and mainly a ploy to get you in the store.

Sorry your experience was bad. I am sure you didn't expect any problems. I mean price match should be price match, but it isn't.

I did not expect wal-mart to carry out my groceries. I was just trying to state the reasons to go back to my regular store.

I have not noticed that much of a price diffrence between the regular grocery store and wal-mart. I just started going there so I would not have to go to multiple stores to get the ads. So since they will not price match, then I see NO REASON to shop at wal-mart. Infact, grocery carry out is a reason not to shop there. So by that tally 0 reasons to shop there, 1 reason not to shop there.

I just figured since all of you here on budget board already knew about this problem I had today. I am just a lot slower at learning "price match" is a scam.

I don't think the price match is a scam but the items that they price match are usually name brands like campbells soup, kelloggs cereal, Betty Crocker etc not the meats, eggs and such that are not from the same manufacturing plant. I think the only produce would be things like dole salad, chiqutia bananas, green giant etc.

Good luck though....it never hurts to ask:thumbsup2

Another thing about Wal-Mart price matching, they won't price match a different Wal-Mart (and I have seen the same thing at different Wal-Marts priced differently) or their online store. At least the ones out here won't do it.

Mine is great. Last week chuck roast wasfor 1.99 at store x and I went to wal mart with ad--asked the butcher about it--was able to get it without a problem. The only thing my store will not honor is store brands and B1G1 free. So if store x has their x brand eggs on sale I am out of luck at wal mart.

I had a terrific experience with WalMart matching a price, on a craft item that was in a Michael's ad. It was an exact match. The cost difference was about $50, we thought there would be a hassle, so we went to the customer service desk.

As far as carrying out groceries, that never happens in PA. It's rare to find a store where they do have a seperate bag person in this state. Usually that's reserved to the high priced grocery stores. Every time we make a trip to Publix in Orlando, it's odd having someone else bag the stuff! Usually the check out person does it.

And it's really odd seeing liquor in a grocery store!

But around here, I find it hard to find any place that can match Wal-marts price on groceries. Now and then we'll go somewhere else for a particualrly good sale item, but overall, I don't think I could shop anywhere else and save on the overall bill.

But their employees are typically less than stellar.

In all fairness to my WalMart often female cashiers will give me the price match on milk, bananas, pop and any other thing they think of while scanning my items. They price match from Aldi's and Kroger usually.

I do not like walmart. Ours here in AL is tough to go to. I can shop for an hour and then spend 30 minutes waiting in line. Often there are 5 people with over filled carts in front of me. I usually just go there for cheap Green Giant beans and fabric and self check myself.

The OP isn't saying she expects WM to bag and carry out her groceries. She's saying she was only going to WM for the price matching, but since is such a PITA, she'd rather go to the store where the items are actually on sale and get their stellar customer service to go along with it. She's saying it isn't worth the hassle at WM when they give her problems anyway.

I like shopping at Brookshire's also. They are a regional chain down here in Louisiana and East Texas. Around here, WM doesn't have cheaper prices than the other grocery stores. Milk is almost $1 more per gallon at WM than the other grocery stores.

i live down here in SE Texas..and there is a local brookshires....

do they triple??? I am so new to the coupon game that im having trouble figgering out where to go. I want to try my hand at "couponing" and would love to do it where it will actually matter...

thanks for any information :)

I realize that :> I just find it odd that stores still do that in other parts of the country. You just don't find that in the Philly area. Everything is self serve.

The one near my Dad makes you show the ad for price matching. Mine doesn't and isn't picky at all, they take your word for it. They will match store brand to store brand tho, things like eggs, milk and bread.

Genaurdi's and Wegman's will carry out groceries for you. They also bag the groceries for you and put them in your cart.

Wow, that stinks that they gave you such a hard time! I've NEVER had a problem price matching anything at Wal-Mart, including milk, eggs, chicken, --anything! The only thing they won't do is the B1G1F matching because they said the other stores jack up the price of the first item in order to "give" you the 2nd item for free, which is true.

I rarely have my ads with me, but if I tell the cashier what the prices are, they just take my word for it. In fact, they automatically price match the milk without me even asking.

There's one cashier at my Wal-Mart who would memorize every single grocery ad because if you got in her line, she knew the competetor's prices and would say, "Oh, this is on sale at such-and-such for X amount..." While she tried to be very helpful, her constant repricing and opening up her ads (she keeps them at her register) to check prices really slowed down her lines. She has since been promoted to a manager, so she doesn't do cashier work anymore, but trains the other employees and shows them how to help customers price match!

Sometimes, it totally depends on what cashier you get. In my Walmart, I have had great experiences where they pricematched everything without blinking an eye, and then I have had ones who act as though I was taking money out of their very own pocket, even telling me that I couldn't get a certain can of Chef Boyardee b/c that wasn't the one in the picture, even though the ad stated ALL Chef Boyardee was on sale.

Mine won't do B1G1F unless the price for the first item is in the ad. Bi-Lo used to put their prices in their ads, but for some reason stopped doing that, so now B1G1F's are useless for pricematching. They have done store brands though.

I'll tell you another reason that I shop at Bi-Lo more than Walmart. There is NO quick trip to Walmart. It seems that even if I want a loaf of bread, I have to park WAY out, walk through that HUGE store, wait in those LONG lines and trek back to my van. With Bi-Lo, I park near the store, run in and run back out. Even though part of it is probably just my perception, going to Walmart is just too major of an event sometimes.

As a side note....Bi-Lo here in Chattanooga still offers to take your groceries out, but I do it myself b/c I never have cash on me and don't want the bagboy to think I'm too cheap to tip, lol.
