I have a Rebel XTi and own the kit lens EF-S 18-55 and a Canon EF 75-300

At the end of the month I am taking a trip to Vegas and a day trip to the Grand Canyon. I am contemplating renting a lens to take with me, especially for the Grand Canyon.

What would you suggest?? I plan to go to the camera store this weekend, but I really would like to hear what you say.

Debbie

I would get a 24-70 f/2.8 or the 70-200 f/2.8. I think your covered for the grand canyon, because most likely you be shooting that during the day with good light, but the big appeture lens will help you in the night at in the casinos. Also, take your tripod with you, lots of long exposure night shots available to you in Vegas.

Here is a link to my shots I took a couple of months ago, was there for work so only had an hour or so one night that was free.

All were taken with the 24-70 f/2.8

I would think that the Grand Canyon would look really cool in super wide angle. Maybe something like a fish eye / wide angle lens would be great for that.

10-22. Because you can only back up so far... ;)

andy beat me to it but i do really like the tokina 10-17 fish eye...it's not very fishy after about 12 on the xti i am thinking it was around 400 so not terrible to buy( have no idea if they rent them or just the $$$$$$$ money lenses) i'd love to rent like maybe a 400-600 to take with me to fl..( going to a few wildlife refuges) but i think i'd cry to hard when i had to give it back:rotfl:

I went to the camera shop today to ask about renting a lens.

They do not have the 10-22 for rent (but the man who may be able to negotiate one for me was off today). But they do have a EF 16-35mm f2.8L USM II to rent. I read a bit about it and looking at the deposit for it :scared1: it sounds very nice :3dglasses

So I just have to decide if it is too much lens for me or if I want to bite the bullet and just reserve it for the vacation.

Thanks everyone

Debbie

The 16-35 is for full frame cameras 5d and 1ds, while the 10-22 is the Ultra wide for 1.6 crop camera such as the Rebel.

You will notice quite a different view from 18mm to 10mm.

The 10-22 is a Must-Have lens!
