Is a car seat needed???

My daughter is six and rides in a booster seat. My son is two and rides in a car seat. We are flying down and taking advantage of the free Disney bus transportation. Do we need to bring a car seat and booster seat for the kids? If not, are there seat belts on the bus that would be appropriate for their ages? I really don't want to lug car seats down with us if we don't have to.

TIA!

When I stayed at POR last year I never say any kids in car seats on the buses. I stayed off site before that and they never used car seats. I never say any seat bealts on any buses, but I might have missed them.

I assume you are talking about using the car seat & Booster on a ME bus? I believe buses are exempt from the car seat law (although I wont swear to it) but I believe the ME buses do have seat belts but don't know if they have any to fit a small child without some additional equiptment. If you do not get a better answer than this on here make sure to give them a call and find out for sure.
As far as the on site Disney transportation, there are no seat belts for the general public. The only belts are for wheelchairs.

Thanks for your post, I was wondering the same thing...

I do remember a bunch of little children on the buses w/ us and I did not see one w/ any car seat or booster.... I know if you are going to ride in a cab they ask that you bring one or sometimes they might even have one for you to use.

I think you will find that car and booster seats would not fit as well or safely on a bus as in a private car.

We are from the UK, where children have to have a car/booster seat up to a certain height. Can anyone tell me whether my 5 year old will need a booster seat in Orlando?

You can not use any booster or car seats on any Disney Transportation, so you can leave them home.

In Florida per law only kids 3 and under need a car seat in cars, over 3 they can just use the seat belts. So your 5 yr old would be legal without a booster.

The poster asked about the requirements not a debate.

My 2 sons (5 and 4) were besides themselves with joy when they realized they did not need child seats on the bus. I think it was the first time they had ever been in a motorized vehicle without having to be in one. It was awesome seeing them enjoy such a simple thing as riding a bus. I think it was one of their favorite "rides".

I am curious who you think is debating? I think everyone has just tried to answer her question...maybe your seeing something I'm not.

Debate? What debate? I am so glad I found this cause I was looking for this info as well..DD is 14 mths when we go....I saw other little ones back in March on ME and the buses on parents' laps, etc.

It wasn't being debated but it gets asked at least once a week on other boards and it always becomes a debate on how safe it is and I'm a better parent 'cause I bring mine etc, and I was hoping to not see this thread turn into one and it hasn't which is a nice change!

I know exactly where you were coming from! :)
Thank you for posting the FL. requirements I know a couple years back it took me awhile to find the states requirements.

Hannathy..thanks for letting us know:)

So many times I have seen this....negative stuff....I really believe there are so many here that just want questions answered...and there are many nice, considerate folks here willing to help out!!
We just need to ignore the negative nellie's:)

That's weird. I did a search in the forum under car seats before I posted this question and it came back as 'no results'.

It seems like it would be a waste to lug those car seats around since we are taking all Disney bus transportation (from and to the airport as well as shuttle bus service from our resort to the parks).

And I have no idea where the debate was. But I'll stick around just in case... popcorn::

The search on the Dis doesn't always pull things up like we would like. Feel free to ask your questions...even if it is something that has been asked before there is always someone who is still willing to answer!

Just to flesh out some facts ....

DME buses and Disney Transport buses have NO SEAT BELTS. Since there are no seat belts, there is no way to secure a child safety seat. Since you can't secure the seat, the seats are not permitted (because a child in an unsecured seat is in more potential peril than an unsecured child).

If you use a child safety seat for your young child on the airplane, you can bring that seat to the DME bus and the driver will load it in the bus' baggage compartment (under the bus) for you, and you'll get it back when you arrive at your resort.

But if you're not using it on the airplane, and you won't be riding in anything except buses while you're down there, then leave the seats at home.:goodvibes

Thanks for that information:)
Anyone know anything abt the DVC vans that take you to SSR??? lol

Anyone know anything abt the DVC vans that take you to SSR??? lol

We got picked up at POP century last Jan in a DVC van and they provided two car seats for us. My 6 year old, they DID not provide the booster seat, but my 4 year old and 2 year old were safely in the car seats that DVC provided.

YAY! One less thing to pack! So glad that I was not the only one curious about this situation!
