Q. about Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon

I have ADRs for our upcoming trip at Le Cellier and can't wait to give it a try. I know everyone raves about the mushroom filet mignon, but I don't like mushrooms. So my question to those who have had this, is how mushroomy is it? Does it have a strong mushroom flavor or can you hardly taste them?

Thanks for any input,

Michele

It is very mushroomy, but if you want a filet they can do it without the mushroom risotto, they have a different one on the menu.

I do not like mushrooms at all but for some reason I love this dish. There are not a lot of mushrooms in the dish at all. I am not sure about the mushroom flavor but it tastes soooo good. Hope this helps.

I love mushrooms and the mushroom flavor was too strong for me! I honestly LOVE mushrooms, but didn't like this much at all. I hated the risotto. The steak was okay though. I may try the other filet next time, but bbq sauce on my filet doesn't sound so good either! I love the idea of the mushroom filet though. I may just try it again, who knows? I'm interested to hear other opinions.

It's been over a year and I'm still dreaming of that risotto. YUM! I personally didn't think it was "too mushroomy" but I'm not sure I would think anything was, so you'll have to take that for what it's worth.

From one filet mignon lover to another, who also doesn't like mushrooms, the two worst filet mignon I've ever had in my entire life were at Le Cellier. Sorry, but it's truth. :sad2:

The first time I tried the mushroom one and asked them to leave the mushrooms off, so it came out plain but it was a terrible piece of meat. The second time I went to Le Cellier I tried their other filet mignon. It had a maple BBQ glaze and while that might've tasted fine on a piece of chicken or other cut of meat, it was terrible on filet mignon and still it was not a good piece of meat.

I don't know if I just got stuck with 2 bad pieces of meat on my two different trips to that restaurant or not, but I won't be going back. QUALITY filet mignon should not need to have anything on it. By it's nature it's an excellent, flavorful, tender cut of beef, but I have no idea what it was with the two I had. Maybe they were overcooked or something, I don't know...

Having said that, I know that most people RAVE about Le Cellier, and I do love everything else about the restaurant. LOL

I just had to share my experiences. I'll be curious to hear how you like it :)

DH got the Barbeque steak. He loved it but I felt it was a little sweet (but he LOVES sweet so ... it was perfect for him.) I got the mushroom filet. I like mushrooms and my steak was delicious. But I do think there WAS a mushroom taste. Do you like other things on the menu besides the filet??? If you do like things a bit sweet you would like the BBQ one - (if you like fruit with meat ... sweet and sour pork ... etc... I think you would enjoy that one better).

My husband hates mushrooms and he REALLY hates the mushroom filet. I love mushrooms and I love the mushroom filet. I really think you need to like mushrooms in order to enjoy it.

I dont think it was too mushroomy but then again I like mushrooms....it did not have that "earthy" taste like alot of mushrooms can have

I love mushrooms so had no qualms about my order; I KNEW I wanted the mushroom filet. My daughter (22) hates mushrooms so ordered the filet "plain" and felt that it was a bit dry. She tasted my meal and was really sorry that she didn't order it. She asked me if I would trade (and she really can't take mushrooms)....but I said no way!! She said next time she will definitely order the mushroom filet...and will just eat around the mushrooms!

I am not a big mushroom fan either and I absolutely loved this dish. I definitely will order it again next time I go to Le Cellier

You can order the other filet with the maple BBQ on the side. My kids and I did this and they served it to us this way so it allowed us to try the sauce and decide whether or not we liked it. The cream cheese mashed potatoes were so good! We thought Le Cellier was one of our best meals. I also highly recommend the mape creme brule - so delicious!

Happy planning! :goodvibes

How are they about substitutions? I wonder if I could get the mushroom filet, with the cream cheese mashed potatoes instead of the risotto?

I am curious about the new york strip? Anybody have this before. Is it tough?

DW gets the NY Strip each time and loves it. Says it's the best steak she's had in the parks and one of the best anywhere.

OP: As for the filet, just order the other filet on the menu and get the sauce on the side if you are afraid you won't like it. I love that filet - sauce included - and thought it was great the last two times we've been (latest was last Thursday). So you don't have to get the one with mushrooms.

Plus the cream cheese mashed potatos are superb.

Thanks for the post. I like NYstrip. Guess I will go for it.Last Thursday! Im jealous. lol

I just can't figure out why someone who knows they don't like mushrooms would even think about ordering the mushroom filet??? I'm very curious about that!
