question regarding a 2 bdrm. lockoff and canceling the studio part

We currently have a 2 bdrm. lockoff reserved at SSR for Thanksgiving week. We are thinking we only need a 1 bdrm. I have been waitlisted for about 1 1/2 months for a 1 bdrm. at either AKV, BC, or WLV which have not come through. If we were to call MS and request that we cancel the studio portion but keep the 1 bdrm, can they do that? I'm not sure but know that someone here will!

I don't believe they can do that, no.

You have to cancel and rebook, you can't just drop the studio. All you can do is waitlist for what you want if it's not available. There are no 1 bedrooms at SSR?

Nope, this comes up a lot. They would cancel your two bedroom unit and try to book you a one bedroom, they can't just "split" the room. So if there aren't any one bedrooms at SSR you could be "homeless"

I've tried to get a 1 bdrm. anywhere and was told none were available. I had no idea Thanksgiving was so popular. We even thought about going non-dvc resort and doing either Polynesian or Contemporary and there was no categories there either. The ONLY thing I could get was the 2bdrm. at SSR. I may waitlist for a 1bdrm. at SSR in case someone cancels. I don't want to be homeless but we really don't need the extra space.

Since it is a lockoff, could you rent out the studio portion to someone?

You better rent it to someone you like. Disney keys it as one unit. That means your "renters" have access to your unit and vice versa.

I may go on a waitlist for a 1 bdrm and if it doesn't come through, we'll just "make" ourselves use the extra space!

You have reserved a 2BR villa - not a 1BR and a Studio - so they won't divide it into 2 units unless there is availability.

As Carol mentioned, the 2BR will be under one name and keys for both the studio and the 1BR will open either unit. Phone calls will also go on the room charge as will any other charges made to that reservation.

Unless you are prepared for your renters having access to your villa it might not be wise to rent a "room" of your reservation.

Good luck with the waitlist.

Thanksgiving is one of the few holidays that is low on points and kids are out of school.

Plus now the Christmas stuff is playing.

It will only get more popular.

just be glad that you are paying point cost for the holiday - except for Wed, thur & fri.

then compare that to Easter, Palm Sunday, Christmas to NY, July 4 week, even Memorial Day week is higher in points.

just a few are cheaper in points MLK week, labor day week - are it.
