I have been having trouble getting my 3 1/2 to eat. We went on a small 3 day vacation and she would bearly eat. We will be on the DDP and are doing several character buffets and family style meals. I know they will automatically deduct 1 child TS from our plan for her. If she won't eat do you think they would pack her a to-go bag of food(ie..penut butter and a piece of fruit)for her to eat later. Has anyone ever had them do this? Also, any other suggestions would be helpful. We were on the DDP last year and she was not on the plan so it wasn't a big deal if sher didn't eat.(we barley got her to eat at all that trip) I was going to cancell some of are character meals but I don't think that if fair to my other DD.

The rules at buffets say that you're not allowed to take food away with you. They most likely won't pack it for you. You might be better off at TS restaurants where you can ask for a box for anything she doesn't eat there.

They probably won't pack it for you. I would just bring along some Tupperware or baggies. I don't think anyone is going to say anything to you if you take along your 3 year olds food that she didn't eat. If you want to you can tell the server that she just wouldn't eat right at that moment. It is Disney, I would hope they would be understanding.

I remember reading a story somewhere on here, that someone walked out with a pineapple, so I'd think they'd be okay with you taking a little something for you DD to eat.

As long as you're not stuffing a duffle bag full of food, I would hope they understand. Like pp said, just bring some ziplocs and whatever she doesn't eat pack away for later.

My DS, now 8 is still very picky and sometimes just doesn't want to eat. I carry a ziploc bag with me when at Disney. At Chef Mickey's I got an apple and some Mickey waffles for him to eat later. They were on his plate, he did go up to get his breakfast, just didn't eat it. Since it was going to be discarded, I saw no harm in taking it with us for him later. At Rest Akershaus, he ate nothing, and no food was portable, so I paid full price for him to sit at the table. The CM's were all very helpful and asked if there was anything that he would eat. No CM ever objected, but as the OP said, don't pack a duffle bag.

What people do and what "they're okay with" are two completely different things. The rules are that buffets are for eating while there. There is nothing wrong with asking for permission to take a few extras for the children for later, but folks should always ask, and always abide by the "yes" or "no" they receive in response.

Do you have my daughter? LOL It sure sounds like it!

when we traveled w/ her at 2.5 I really didn't mind , then last year we had free ddp...so that was ok. This year paying for DDP I was a little concerned. Then dh reminded me that we DID take a small sandwich, or slice of pizza, etc and a piece of fruit w/ us for her to eat later when she was hungry if she didn't want to eat at our ADR. It was NOT a problem. The 1st time at Chef Mickey's I was unprepared and the server brought us something to bring the few things from her plate out in. Then we just started carrying a couple of small ziplock bags w/ us. Sometimes we used them, other times she ate enough for her and we didn't bother.

Do not worry. The rule is there to prevent people from walking away w/ a ton of food to feed other friends/family who did not pay to eat there. Or for someone trying to take enough for a second meal later. Real abuses like that. I really don't think what you're talking about will raise an eyebrow.

Have a great trip!

If you ask, you may be told No! Never ask a question if you don't want the answer you may get.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I know that my DD is not the only pickey eater. Chef mickey & Akershus is the only place we are eating at the is a buffets. The others are served family style (GG,LTT,Ohana's).I saw that they have seperate meals for children so I will just order her from that menue and just pick food that is portable(chichen nuggets, hot dog) I assume I can take that food with me. I just remembered that tupperwear has new collaspable(sp?) bowls so I may take one of those.

I have always taken an apple or banana from buffets, WITH server approval. They often tell me to take 2!

Akershus isn't really a buffet. For lunch and dinner the "appetizer" portion of your meal is buffet style- cheeses, deli meats, salads, some fish, crackers, bread, butter, etc. Then your meal is served to you like any other restaurant- you choose it from the menu, they serve it to you. Then the dessert is served family style. You can get a to-go box from your server at Akershus if your child doesn't finish her meal there. But they have hot dogs, pizza, pasta, some pretty basic stuff on the kids menu.

Under that criteria a guest could fill a plate and then transfer it to baggies..it was going to be discarded.

I don't think most CMs would have a problem if a guest took a normal portion and took it, particularly for a young child.

I don't think most CMs have a problem if a guest takes something like a piece of fruit, cookie or ice cream to either eat later or to just eat while walking.

Disney doesn't charge extra if a guest "pigs out" they don't really owe anything to guests who don't "eat their monies worth".

One trip we dined at the breakfast buffet at the Yacht Club Gallery. The CM asked if we wanted a "to go cup" so we have an extra cup of coffee and danish outside by the boardwalk. There weren't other guests waiting for a table, it was a nice day and the CM thought we might enjoy finishing breakfast outside.

They were on his plate....... Since it was going to be discarded, I saw no harm in taking it with us for him later.

If you are just planning on packing up what she did not consume from the plate you made her than you should be able to pack that up with no one considering it in poor taste or inappropriate. Afterall, the food that you placed on her plate will just end up int he trash anyway. Now if you're (not saying you are, who would really)planning on heading up to the buffett to pack out a few chickens and baggies filled with candy then I could see how that would be a no no!

Not necessarily. You would never get any thing done that way.

They should let you take a little bit.

I've heard before that it's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. :rotfl2:

That said, I'd just ask if you can pack up what's already on her plate. I honestly can't imagine a CM saying no if you have your own container, and you are only packing up a reasonable amount that has already been dished up on her plate. It's pretty different than going up to the buffet and picking and choosing items there to pack up...you know?

There was a controversial book by Abbie Hoffmann in the hippie days :hippie: called "Steal This Book". In it, he had all kinds of suggestions for how to beat the system and live on the street. One of his suggestions was to put plastic bags in your pockets and purse and fill up at buffets with portable things like fried chicken, whole fruit, rolls, etc. So...as long as you aren't doing that...

The first time we went to the Crystal Palace for breakfast my son was young and was so excited to see the characters that he did not finish his meal. Before bringing our bill, the waitress gave us a to go box and a bag AND she suggested we go back to the buffet and get a few pieces of fruit in case we needed an snack later. (No we did not ask for a box, I am too shy.) We only took the bagel and muffin on his plate, since they would keep well, but that was so kind of her to notice

It might depend on your waiter/waitress, but I suggest asking if you are not shy. :)
