Are We Turkeys? - Thanksgiving 2006 at WDW - NEW 5/17 Chap 11 on Pg 13

Just a quick post to let you know that I am finally caught up (again) and that your trip report is still rockin'!

Keep it coming!!

PS That monorail picture is so adorable! I wonder what wonderful dreams they were having!?

I'm sure she'll get back here soon.

Unless she's too busy. Planning a new trip. And tryin' to find a good belt.

Try: TalBOTs!!!! TFI.

It's perfect.

U don't even need to be that tall.

Yeah.

Keep'er comin'!!!

Cheers, Melly.

NM - the pictures of the princess and the princess are priceless :cheer2:

Are we getting updates on other trips or just this one :rotfl2:

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Thanks Grammy!!

I did have a great Mother's Day!

Brunch at Boma. Mmmm.

Thanks for the bumps my sweet friends. It's ball season in the South. And it's the end of the school year. This report that I love is being neglected.

But I have a new installment ready. Posting it in a few...

Don't be strangers!!

NM

If you recall, we had spent Black Friday in the Magic Kingdom. Closed the place down. Kids fell asleep on the monorail, and we finally put them in the bed around 1 AM. Planning to sleep in the next morning.

Well, could we? Could we waste a park opening – during one of the most crowded times of the year – just to get some rest? I’ll admit that it felt like a HUGE waste to me. I don’t sleep in at home. Even on Saturday mornings when there is nothing going on. Why would I sleep in at my favorite place in the world? When there were tons of fun things going on just outside that resort room door?

Because it ain’t always about me, that’s why.

And after a 1 AM bedtime, the kids needed to take it easy the next morning.

So that was the plan. And at the time, as late as it was that night, that plan sounded pretty good.

But just as I knew we would, my husband and I woke up at our regular time the next morning. He went down to Mara and brought up our morning coffee, and we sat at the little table and chairs in the room – because it was too cold on the balcony – and quietly discussed the day. All while the kids slept soundly.

We decided that once the kids were awake, we’d lounge around a little bit in the room and let the kids watch some Disney channel and play with souvenirs. Do the Saturday morning at home kind of stuff. Eventually, I’d fix the kids some breakfast from our stash of non-perishable breakfast food (read: junk), and then later we’d go down to the lobby and explore a little bit. Maybe play on the playground, see the animals – you know, enjoy the resort.

Next, once we’d piddled around the AKL, we’d hop a bus to Epcot just in time for our 1:50 ADR at Le Cellier.

That was the plan.

Lay low. Relax. Have a quiet Saturday morning at the resort before we head over to Epcot for a full day.

Yeah, RIGHT.

The kids finally woke up, and the lounging around plan lasted about 15 minutes. Then we couldn’t stand it.

So after the kids had watched a half-episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, we told them to hop to. Quit that thing called relaxing – we can do that at home! Get your clothes on and let’s boogie!

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, so they were as ready as we were. We took no time getting dressed and out the door, and we headed down to Mara for some breakfast. We let the kids get all sugared up with donuts, adding a little fruit to appease our conscience, and we were on our way. And yes, my son eats the outside of the donut, and leaves the rest. ???

IMG_0696.jpg

Wait.

Let’s at least pay the original plan a bit of lip-service. Let’s take a few minutes and check out the animals and visit the playground. So we walked over to the savannah viewing area and looked for some animals.

It’s here that I need to come clean with the truth. Since this is my trip report, and not an advertisement for the savannah view at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, I’ll give this up.

I ain’t HUGELY impressed with the animals.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I don’t like animals. And it’s definitely cool that at the AKL – for a price or a free upgrade – you can see them from your balcony. But it just doesn’t make my socks go up and down. Sorry.

IMG_0704.jpg

IMG_0701trim.jpg

And I believe I’ve passed on this animal nonchalance to my kids. Because they weren’t totally impressed either. But we took the requisite pics, as you can see, and moved on pretty quickly to the playground. Which bears a strong resemblance to the one my son plays on everyday at school. So after seeing them run around on it for a few minutes, it occurs to me that we’ve got bigger fish to fry at Epcot.

This is how the conversation goes. My husband and I are sitting on a bench by the playground chatting, and I stop him in mid-sentence to say, “Let’s blow this joint. Let’s head on to Epcot. THAT’S what we came here for.” He replies, “I fall in love with you more and more everyday.”

And it’s on to Epcot.

We don’t even stud waiting for a bus. We ask the valet to pull that NM Mobile around, and we’re off.

Straight to the Beach Club. Passing right by the sign that says “We’re sorry that we can not provide parking for Epcot guests.” In a moment of rare-while-at-Disney financial wisdom, DH decides on the self-parking instead of the Valet, and drops me and the kids off at the lobby doors. We walk in and check out the sights while we wait on him to park the car and join us.

IMG_0709.jpg

And this is when it hits me.

I’m staring my rebellion against a restful morning right in the face.

I’m exhausted.

Unfortunately for me, as I get closer to 40, exhaustion means something different than it used to. When I’m exhausted, I get true physical symptoms. I feel achy. I feel lightheaded. I feel weak. I don’t feel like hanging out at Epcot all day.

I feel like laying low at the AKL.

IDIOT!!!

There’s a reason Tour Guide Mike says to NEVER follow a late night with an early morning! There’s a reason I had “lay low at the AKL” in my itinerary for this morning! And it’s because I NEEDED to lay low. And if I did, the rest of my crew probably did as well.

About that time, my husband catches up to us and we walk to Epcot from the Beach Club. I share with him that I’m exhausted, and he agrees. He is, too. Probably more so than me, because he’s always got a kid – sometimes an 8 year old that’s too big for it, but he can’t say no – on his shoulders, or he’s hoofing it from the parking lot, or he’s running around gathering Fastpasses. This is just great. We’re planning on being here all day. And the way the itinerary is scheduled with our Candlelight Processional Package, we’ve no time for a rest.

In other words, the NM’s are gonna have to suck it up and press on. So we do.

It’s about 11:00 by now, and we’re curious as to whether there will be any Fastpasses left for Soarin’. Actually, “curious” isn’t an accurate description. We’re DYING TO KNOW if there are any Fastpasses left for Soarin’. So DH sprints off to Future World while me and the kids hang out in the World Showcase. Bless his heart. There he goes again. I couldn’t have sprinted five feet for a million dollars.

The kids and I putz around and wait on DH, and he returns shortly with Soarin’ FP’s that sport an after 6:00 return time. That will work out perfectly, because we are attending the 5:00 Candlelight Processional and it lasts about 45 minutes.

Now we just need to kill some time before the 1:50 ADR.

So we shopped, did the Kidcot thing, watched the street performers, and just took it easy for a couple of hours.

We all were amazed by the chair guy in France! If you haven’t seen that little show, make time for it next time you’re at Epcot. We also enjoyed just poking around in the shops. We’ve never made time for the World Showcase, and we were really glad that we did.

IMG_0727.jpg

But after about two hours, we were over it.

Because at about 1:30, our energy hit rock bottom. We were hungry, weak and tired. So hungry in fact, that we were tempted to reach into the back pack and have a granola bar. But, we had the coveted by some, over-rated by others, Candlelight Processional Package lunch at Le Cellier. And because the NM’s have never been on the Dining Plan, the fact that we were getting an appetizer, entrée AND dessert was serious eatin’. We wanted to be good and hungry.

So we beat a trail for Canada, and while DH went and checked us in, the kids and I sat outside and listened to the Canadian Santa and got Brother Bear autographs.

IMG_0732.jpg

Very shortly, the moment we had been waiting for arrived. We were called in to the most famous steakhouse on the Disboards. I pulled the camera out and got ready to roll.

The inside of the restaurant was very cozy. And it was nicely decorated for Christmas. I snapped a couple of pics. It smelled good, too. We were feeling better already.

lecellier.jpg

IMG_0741.jpg

We were seated next to a sweet couple. Actually, “seated next to” is understating it. We were practically at the same table. In fact, we were so close there was no way to have separate conversations. So, being the chatty NM’s that we are, we struck up a conversation and learned that this couple lived in the Orlando area. They were having increasingly harder times getting ADR’s, but enjoyed popping into Epcot for dinner and Illuminations on a regular basis. They recommended the cheese soup and literally watched in anticipation as we took our first bites. It was good. But we would have faked it if it wasn’t.

I ordered the filet and potatoes for my entrée, and I really did like it. I’m not sure it lived up to the hype, though. Macon has some pretty good local fancy spots with REALLY good steak. But I certainly wasn’t disappointed. It was cooked just right and it was good. Just not the best I’ve ever had. The kids each had the NY strip and both liked theirs. I honestly can’t remember what my husband had. And I didn’t take a picture of it, so I’ll never know.

IMG_0734.jpg

lecellier1.jpg

We all loved the fact that we could order dessert as part of the package. Call us rednecks. Call us the Clampetts. Whatever. But we usually don’t order appetizer, entrée and dessert. And this was a treat.

IMG_0739.jpg

Just wait until we’re there in September with the Free Dining. We’ll be freakin’ out of control.

After the meal, we were all feeling much better. We had filled the tanks with some fuel, recaptured some energy during the rest, and we were ready to tackle the rest of the day.

That is, after a stop at the bathrooms in Canada.

Just kidding.

I’ll never visit those bathrooms again.

Up next: Is it possible to ride Spaceship Earth without a breakdown?

Glad you're back! It's t-ball season here too and add to that the middle school musical and general end of the school year picnics, graduations, events, etc. In short, I can relate and you are forgiven, sweet girl.
“Let’s blow this joint. Let’s head on to Epcot. THAT’S what we came here for.” He replies, “I fall in love with you more and more everyday.”
I think this is my favorite part! You guys are so cute but obviously on adrenaline overdrive at this point.

It does stink to get older and I am more tired in a bones-aching sorta way when I do stuff I don't normally do.

But I'd like to add that if you hadn't woken those sleeping angels up for a BATH at midnight everyone would be more rested. That'll teach ya! ;)

What about that chair guy in France! I haven't seen those guys. And who are the guys on the ground? The spotters!? Are they gonna catch him with thing they're holding?

We are also the Clampetts who never order dessert but hey, if it's FREE I think I can force myself!

So free dining, huh? Where are you eating? I know it's in the spreadsheet already.

WooHoo! Another installment! :goodvibes Who needs sleep when you're in WDW?! It's soooo hard to slow down and relax, there's just too much to see and do, and EAT! (The LeCellier pics are great!) I can't wait to hear about the Candlelight Processional. Who was the speaker that night?

-Michelle

P.S. Brunch at Boma for Mother's Day? Huh? Did you slip in another trip before you even finished this TR???

free dining for you in September HUH???? Lucky lucky u!!!

Lovin' your TR NM!! I must see that French chair guy one of these days, I just must:)

We all were amazed by the chair guy in France! If you haven’t seen that little show, make time for it next time you’re at Epcot. We also enjoyed just poking around in the shops. We’ve never made time for the World Showcase, and we were really glad that we did.

Okay, I have to tell you that we're completely borg on the appreciation for this guy. It's insane how many chairs he can balance his little body on. And I think the guys at the bottom are there to catch his ballcap. Cause you know that sucker's eventually comin' off. I can't believe yall have never made time for the World Showcase before. Heathens! Or Heatherns, which is how it's pronounced. At least you only poked around in the shops though. And didn't pilfer.

Glad you liked Le Cellier. Or…did you like Le Cellier? I can't really tell here. What with all the flip flopping going on in that paragraph. Big grin.

But we would have faked it if it wasn’t.

Now I'm numb.

NM! I loved this installment, my girl. And Lexmelinda's right. Yall are such a cute family. Any man that falls more in love with his wife because she’s ready to full on tackle Epicot is okay in my book. I'm glad you got to experience more of the World Showcase on that day. And I hear ya on the exhaustion. As much as we may want to go, go, go in the World, sometimes our bodies just can't keep up. Especially for those of you who are closer to 40 than I am. ;) I felt that when I was reading this one. And it made me feel like I was right there with ya. Parking illegally (yet again) at the Beach Club.

Keep it comin' chick!

:moped:

Now THIS, THIS is why you are my sister, sister. I get it. I want to love the animals. I look at them. I appreciate that Disney brought them from Africa for my viewing pleasure. But it just doesn't make my heart skip a beat like this does:
The kids and I putz around and wait on DH, and he returns shortly with Soarin’ FP’s that sport an after 6:00 return time. That will work out perfectly, because we are attending the 5:00 Candlelight Processional and it lasts about 45 minutes.

I still want to stay at AKL, though, because I love Africa. The people and the culture impress me beyond words. I love your descriptions. I love your trip. Do you think we'll ever be at the World at the same time again?

Keep it comin'.

Jam

All is right with the world, NM is back. I had to go back and skim the last chapter to remember what was going on. Loser you say? Maybe. WDW addict, I say.

Wish I could say I know what you mean about making relaxing plans and then throwing them to the curb, but I don't. We actually do relax most mornings. I'm sure we'll go back to theme park commandos once the kids are a little older. Or at least I will.

And on the topic of illegal parking, don't let Lala give you a hard time about that. She illegally parked at the CR for MNSSHP. What short memories we have.

I'll be in Orlando tomorrow for a conference. Won't be doing WDW. Unless I have an autonomic reflex and the car takes an early exit off I-4. Could happen, you never know about us addicts.

Great chapter, as always. Please don't make us wait as long for the next installment. You know, being addicts and all. Pass the kool-aid.:drinking1

NM, borgity borg BORG on the gogogo impulse at the World. And the ensuing exhaustion. Ow. But that's what table service meals in dark cellars are for!

THANK YOU for posting those sweet pictures~! The donut cracked me up!!!

LeCellier is soooo beautiful! I am so excited because we are going for lunch next time and it will be the Frick's first time there ever!!! What a big huge honking steak you had NM! ;)

You and your DH are so cute! That was the sweetest thing!

I can't rest either at Disney! Borg! But, it is no fun to be so tired in the middle of the day that your eyes are crossing and your dogs are barking. That right there is a buzzkill.

Keep it coming when you can friend!!!!

I'm off to tell Tour Guide Mike that you didn't follow his plan and rest on the morning after a late night. He's going to be so disappointed!

But it just doesn’t make my socks go up and down.
I have no idea what this means, but thank you for not providing a list of the things that do make your socks go up and down.

We don’t even stud waiting for a bus. We ask the valet to pull that NM Mobile around, and we’re off.
Is this a typo? What does "don't even stud waiting for a bus" mean? Did the bus make your socks go up and down?

DH decides on the self-parking instead of the Valet
Ignoring the clear implications of your flagrant flouting of Disney's parking policy, had you paid closer attention to my Trip Report, you would know that if you valet at one resort, you can valet at them all for free. You don't have to pay twice for the same service. Oddly enough.

But we would have faked it if it wasn’t.
That is just full on funny. I'd stud for that b/c it made my socks go up and down.

I just don't think that napkin will hold him if the chair guy happens to fall.

Great update as always, NM.

:moped:

I really like Chapter 11.

Very smooth. Intelligent. Witty. Kinda bad. In a good way.

I'm so glad that you use "stud" as a VERB.

I've never heard that before.

But... no matter.

I'm gonna use it all the time now.

TFI.

Glad. So GLAD. You liked Le STELLIER!!!!

Canada ROCKS!!!

I'd stud for Canada.

Oh.

Here's the answer to your BIG question. Your trippie question: ARE WE TURKEYS?!

The answer is... YES.

And this is my solution:

47b7db39b3127cce847df4042e9000000025100BZt2LRu2ZsR

Yes. The brave Can-A-dian Turkey Hunter!

Almost invisible. Camoflaged on our deck. Impossible to distinguish from a tree.

I think.

Anywho... LOOK OUT!!!!

He'll stud for turkeys!!!!

Cheers, Mel.

That's AWESOME!!! Awesome, I say. But I could hardly see him. And I'm a little afraid he'll fall off the deck and hurt himself. He's awfully close to the edge.

Mel, if you're gonna use "stud" as a verb, here's how it goes. It's synonymous with "giving any thought to."

Example: "We didn't even stud waiting for a bus." OR
"We didn't even give any thought to waiting for a bus."

"Stud" - when used as a verb - typically implies a haughty or arrogant attitude.

"I'm not even studdin' her new dress."

Got it?

And ZZUB. We're aware of the blanket valet policy. Because I am a loyal student of your TRs. BUT. To valet takes a little time on the back end. It's almost as bad as the bus. You strain your eyes to make out the shape of the headlights...is it ours? Does it have a sign lit up in the front that reads "Animal Kingdom Lodge?" And, valet means a tip on both ends. Plus, the Beach Club parking lot is not a bad walk from the lobby. And when DH is on a mission, self-parking is most definitely faster. So it was a financial AND time driven decision. That made our socks go up and down.

Frick! Glad you liked the pics of Le Cell. You'll have to weigh in on it, too. But be a little more clear than I was. LaLa might get confused.

Kimmie - You suffer from the gogogo's, too? Not to be confused with the GoGos. Ick. The way I see it is this. If I want to rest, I'd go to the beach. Where the ONLY thing to do is rest. Chop, chop on your next installment, Mama.

UK!! How's that baby doing? Have a safe trip to Orlando! And I'd at least drive under the big arch and take a picture. Nah, nevermind. That would be a little too painful. And UK, you are absolutely right! LaLa was checking out my speck and ignoring her own plank. Thanks for pointing that out.

Jam - The AKL is awesome. It's a beautiful resort and everything about it was perfect for a holiday trip. Maybe we'll be there some day at the same time. We'll meet up and view us some animals. ;)

LaLa - What can I even say to you, girlfriend? I made myself perfectly clear on the Le Cell thing. Clear as mud. But let me restate it for you. We liked it. We liked it a bunch. But, unlike the consensus around here would lead you to believe, it wasn't the best steak we've ever had. Therefore, it didn't live up to the hype. That does not take away from the fact that it was good. Very good. And we liked it. Get it? Got it? Good.

And by the way, my sweet friend. Parking at the Contemporary while you are at the MK - even if you did dine with the Mickster - is illegal as well. Step off.

Disfan - Oh yeah, baybee. Freeness for the NM's.

Michelle - We did just sneak a lil trip to the World in last week. For my son's 5th birthday. We took my folks and had a great time. And I can't wait to write about the Candlelight Processional in my next installment. We LOVED it. David Robinson was the narrator. And we really admire him. The show was very worth the effort to attend.

My sweet Melinda! - Girl, you know I have a spreadsheet! And some ADR's, too. Kona, Chef Mick's, Princess Norway, Garden Grill...I can't remember the rest!! But we're very excited. Thanks for your sweet words and for posting and reading. I hope you'll give us another after y'all return, as well!!

Thanks for the posts everybody! I love reading all of 'em!!

Have a good weekend...

NM

DD is almost 2 months old, and she is finally getting on some sort of schedule. She has been a whole different beast than DS. DS was a walk in the park. DD is a handful. I guess I should've expected that, seeing as I am still trying to figure DW out. Women baffle me sometimes.

No driving under the arch for me today. I was barely able to stomach driving past the few exits to WDW.

And as for LaLa, I guess we all need to keep each other in check.

Now, on with the next chapter, I say. As long as we're all keeping each other in check.:rolleyes1
