Saratoga Springs vs. French Quarter

For those of you that have stayed at both Port Orleans French Quarter and Saratoga Springs, which of the two did you like better? Our family has stayed at FQ 3 or 4 times over the past couple of years and we were planning on staying there again for our upcoming trip in June. However, with the recent AP rates, we can get a studio at Saratoga Springs for one day more for only $48.00 more for the entire stay. We have really enjoyed FQ in the past and this is a chance to stay somewhere new, but there is still that “what if” lurking in the back of my mind. What are yall’s opinion.

Take the SSR .

We have stayed at both and own DVC at SSR love POFQ but take the Delux at SSR for that price anyday.

They just finished their 2nd main pool area and should be done all together around that time frame I think.

I so much prefer Saratoga Springs over Port Orleans.

I would definitely choose SSR.

I'll put my vote in for SSR too. POFQ is nice, but SSR is deluxe and it has a spa! Plus, the kitchenette is really nice. POFQ has two beds, and SSR has one plus the sofa sleeper in the studios. Does that matter to you?
Good luck!

SSR and POFQ are both big, so the multiple bus stop thing isn't an issue because it exists at both of them.

Take SSR... if only because it's close to Downtown Disney and the main pool is beautiful. :yay:

I love pofq.....I'm going to SSR on Tues:cool1:

I'd pick SSR...studio....microwave....12 cup coffee pot...
Queen bed and pull out sofa....

Biggest reason....try something new....
It will feel like a new disney vacation.....with new nooks and
crannies to explore..
Have fun

I just posted this on another thread. I booked SSR because there isn't much difference in price. Both resorts have the boat service to DTD. Both resorts are located around the same proximity. SSR will have the microwave in the studio room, a small balcony, vacuum cleaner, and sink. I think that's the only difference "amenity-wise". SSR is larger than FQ. The theming is totally different. Not sure which has the better theme pool. There is a kiddie splashing area with water jets at SSR. The colors in theming are more subdued at SSR, while they are bright and vibrant at FQ.

My question though, is how does a studio room compare in size to a room at FQ? When I looked at pics at allears, the sofa bed (instead of a bed) at the studio rooms, made it appear smaller. Is it?

POFQ is about 315 sq ft
SSR studio is about 355 sq ft.

I vote for SSR as well (it is also much newer so has a fresh, modern look). I think the kitchenette and balcony would make the decision for me. However, if not having 2 real beds will be a problem (and it is for us often), then I'd go with POFQ. As far as DVC studios go, we prefer OKW as it is the only DVC that offers 2 queen beds and not the foldout couch. However, many like the couch because they can fold it up during the day to offer more floor space. My kids are teens and hate sleeping on the foldout for comfort reasons so we stick with OKW when we do a studio.

Oh that's good to know about OKW, I might switch. We stayed at BWV in a studio the year it opened he was in preschool then, now he's a teen. Not sure how he'd like the sofa bed.

I've stayed at both as well and I would definately take SSR over POFQ... We love SSR.

While POFQ holds a very special place in my heart, I'd take SSR if I had the opportunity to do so...especially for so little extra!!! You've done POFQ, try something new!! You won't be sorry!!

but be aware that once you go Deluxe, it's tough to go back!!!;)

good luck!!! Have a great time!!!:thumbsup2

I agree, I would always take a delux resort over a moderate, especially considering the prices. Nothing beats the kitchette you get with the studio. A larger frig w/freezer, sink, microwave, toaster, kitchen supplies.

SSR also has a Gym and a sit-down restaurant. I have never stayed at POFQ, but I have visited and I would pick SSR hands down.

The sleeper sofa in a studio is a double sized sleeper sofa. At SSR, the mattress is memory foam so there are no bars that you feel when you sleep.

I think the concensus here is SSR. A deluxe with so little money difference! I think you should do it! And I know you will, CJ!

Definitely go with SSR. A deluxe or DVC resort is always better than a moderate. More services, amenities, and larger rooms. SSR studios have a queen bed and a sofa bed. The rooms are also bigger. The AP rates are a good deal.

Alright, I think I am starting to see a consensus that SSR is the way to go, which is good since our travel agent <yay Deb!! :cheer2: > set us up last night. I only have one question - How comfortable can a middle aged, 6foot, 200+ lbs guy with back problems get on the fold out couch? I am thinking about bringing a air mattres just in case.

The sleeper sofa at SSR is very comfortable. It's memory foam, so it's very supportive.

You can get one of those egg crate mattress things if you need one by just calling housekeeping. I slept on the couch when we were there and it wasn't bad, but I would definetly get the egg crate the next time.
