Anybody do Zumba? I know it has probably been around for a couple of years, but I got started last year. I stopped doing it for awhile, but now so addicted to the classes.
I belong to the JCC, and have done all sorts of classes, step, spinning, muscle blast etc.. I will say I got bored of step and spinning.I try to do the Zumba 2 times a week.

So funny, the instructor teaches all sorts of classes, but her face is somuch happy when she is teaching ZUMBA. The music is so fun, although it is all in Spanish, and really don't know what they are saying.

I use to be big into Jazzercise, only stopped because of lack of childcare. To me, Zumba is like Jazzercise, only with music in Spanish;)

Anybody else love it?

I'm surprised you didn't get any responses because it's becomming a big thing around here. My gym just started offering it a few weeks ago. I accidently ended up in a class. Before it started, and I found out what it was, I RAN out of there! I am not a dancer. I have tried to take the floor-aerobic-dancy type class already and I was a danger to everyone around me! I'm a pro at step, but give me free range of a floor and someone is going to get hurt!

It's great that you like it...that's the key for me, finding something I like. I have like exercise-induced ADD. I can see how Zumba would be a lot of fun for the more coordinated people.

I LOVE Zumba!

I belong to the YMCA and they have classes on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I go all 3 days. It is such a great workout if you give it your all.

I was a dancer so it's really my kind of thing but I see so many women (and some brave men!) that consider themsevles "non-dancers" that do a great job and really love it.

Our instructor is great and really keeps us pumped up. I used to go to the gym and run on the treadmills but now I refused- Zumba is the only way to go for me!

EDIT: I should also add that I have "Excercise ADD".. I can't do any machine for more than 10min-- maybe this is why I love Zumba so much? :thumbsup2

I am so NOT a dancer, but Zumba is so much fun. People have the misconception you have to be coordinated, or have to be a dancer to like these sort of classes, I dont feel it is true. The first few classes, we all feel like dorks..going the wrong way, wrong foot whatever..The instructors don't care , they want you to work and have fun with it. After several classes you get the hang of it,BUT by the time you are feeling confident, she puts new music in there;), and its back to step one all over again LOL

I will say, I will never be able to shake my hips like the instructor, you are suppose to move one way and keep those hip shaking...it looks cute on the instructor, but I just don't move that way;)
I keep trying, and sweat like a pig, and have fun along the way:thumbsup2

Having the right instructor can make a huge difference in this particular class. For those of you who don't feel brave enough to be in this class.....just head to the back where nobody can watch you!!

I did it today for my first time and LOVED it! I was apprehensive, being a guy, but my supervisor from work (a feisty latin woman!) and another coworker went and begged me to come.

I *hate* cardio because I get so bored, but I sweat SO MUCH! Some of the moves were difficult, but it was a blast.

It's a great, fun workout and if you like to dance I highly recommend it!

I've been doing Zumba for over a year and love it. I go 3 times a week and have a great instructor. It's so much fun and you get a real workout.

Good for you for trying it:thumbsup2

I started doing Zumba twice a week. I love it! I've never sweat so much during a workout before. I sweat more during Zumba than I did when I ran a 5K last spring!

The only trouble I have is that my knees sometimes are sore, from the spinning and turning. I wear running shoes, but I'm really thinking maybe I need to wear something with less traction. Any suggestions?

I must be the only person on the planet that hated Zumba. I love dancing but Zumba was not my thing. I left after 30 minutes. I'd much rather just bike, walk, or do strength training. Glad it works for you though.:goodvibes

Thanks for the link.:) I just ordered a pair of Ryka's from Zappos. If they aren't right, at least shipping is free both ways!

I think the instructor makes a big difference. I went to one class at one place, and it was OK. My friend encouraged me to try the classes at her gym, and the instructor is phenomenal! I'm hooked!

I agree. My instructor is great. She comes from a dance background, and we have so much fun.

I go once a week. My Y has it 3 times a week but that one is the only one that fits into my schedule. It's a lot of fun and I agree that you really don't have to be coordinated :)

So, I've seen that you seem to either love it or, well, not love it. Have you seen results from it though?

We homeschool and dh travels a lot, so a gym membership isn't really feasible right now. Someone has started having classes at the local community center and you pay per class. This would work for me since I'd only pay if I go, and I'd love to try it.

I will because it seems like something I'd enjoy. I'm just wondering if you have seen results from it.

I'm only in my third week of classes, so it's too soon to tell for me. I've weighed myself twice since I started. The first week was to get my base weight. Last week, I had not lost or gained anything. I do Zumba twice a week and I walk 3 miles two or three times a week. I have not really changed my eating habits.

I have a friend who has lost 25 lbs doing Zumba and changing her eating habits.

I will tell you that Zumba is a workout. You WILL feel it...you WILL sweat. I've heard that it can burn upwards of 1000 calories in a work out. I believe it! I feel more "worked out" after doing Zumba for an hour than I did when I ran a 5K!

The gym I go to does Zumba twice a week, and Zumba toning (using weights) once a week. I haven't tried that one yet.

I am obsessed with Zumba! I love it. I was even going to become certified to be an instructor but the only class held around here for that (in my own GYM nonetheless!!) was when I was on a cruise last year. :guilty: But in the meantime I absolutely love Zumba. It's like being at a party for an hour while you burn 500 calories while having a blast!!!

I did a search and found some zumba classes - I've downloaded a couple and can't wait to try them. They look fun (and a lot of work too)
