Seems my fellow DISers have lots of good things to say about Zenni Optical, but have any of you purchased glasses with progressive lenses from them? What did you think? Were you happy with your purchase? I just can't see paying over $300 for another pair of glasses if I don't have to.

I buy my progressives from Zenni. Never had an issue. Recently they changed the minimum lense height for progressives. It used to be 33mm, now it's 30mm. I haven't tried the shorter lenses yet. I've purchased about 8-10 pairs of progressives. All were made perfectly. I have regular progressives, progressives with sunglass tint, and progressives with transitions lenses.

They are a bargain. Least expensive place on the web to buy them.

Mine are great, though the frame is larger than I would prefer...gotta go check the new height change that may be perfect!

I originally had a big problem with zenni but decided to try them again based on the reports on this board. My progressive lenses turned out fantastically and were relatively inexpensive, even with one of the most expensive frames on that website. Cannot tell you how many compliments I have had on those glasses and they function beautifully.

I want to thank everyone for alleviating my fears.

WishIWereThere....would you mind telling which frames you got? I'm nervous about the size of the lens. My opthamologist said they should be at least 33mm, irregardless of what they try to sell you. My current lens is only 27mm. Never did I think I would say that 6mm was huge! :rotfl:

3778 Rimless Pure Titanium Frame. Size is 50Wx32H. The total price with shipping and other extras was $84.85.

I was looking for something similar to Sarah Palin's very expensive designer glasses, and this was the closest I could find on Zenni at the time (9/2009). It was definitely a good choice for me -- I've had more positive responses than I have ever received on any glasses I have ever owned.

Keep in mind, though, that this titanium frame is a bit flimsy, especially when compared to the plastic frames which I normally prefer. I've not had any problems with them, but I did do a second take when I first held them. Good luck to you!

My mom has bought several pairs of progressives from them and has been very pleased. She gets compliments on them all the time. Saved over $400/pair getting them through Zenni.

oh, and one other thing -- the picture of that frame on the website has a different lens than I chose. I chose one which was more rectangular -- not round. There are a variety of sizes and shapes of lenses available for that frame, and several are as big as your doctor recommends.

I order progressive sunglasses in style 2230 tortoise shell pattern and I get more compliments on these than any other pair of sunglasses I've owned, including designer non-prescription...

OK, you guys have been great, but I have another question. I've chosen a frame, but now it asks me for a lens type. There are several for progressive lenses... 1.50; 1.57; 1.59; 1.61; and 1.69. What does this mean and how do I know which one I want? Thanks!

I think those numbers refer to the various lens numbers -- you access the lens choices by clicking "order" on the frame style you like and then, after the new page appears, clicking on the words "Lens & Size Choices" -- not the question mark next to it. Then you will see the range of lenses available for that frame, with a number corresponding to each.

Now I'm answering my own question. I did a little research and those numbers don't refer to the shape and size of the lenses, but rather refer to the thickness of the lens. I don't have the info in front of me right now, but IIRC, 1.57 is default for anything under +5.00 on your prescription, regardless of what you order. So unless you're really blind, stick with either the 1.57 option.

Thanks again to everyone who responded. I think I'm going to be quite happy with my new glasses! I've even saved enough to get my first real pair of prescription sunglasses! :cool1:
