We used to collect the shed skin shells as kids. We liked finding them on the trees and stuff.

Actually there are cicada recipes but please don't send me any. I couldn't imagine eating them. (Although I do eat lobster)

I remember when the cicadas were here last! My sister worked at The Little Red Schoolhouse ( a nature center) and we got to have lots of fun with them. I even made up a song....

I'm a little cicada
short and stout
here is my mandible
here is my snout
every 17 years I come out
oh I love to hear the people shout!

Kinda dorky, I know, but the little kids on feild trips liked it.

There are recipes for them and at the Taste of Chicago they have chocalete covered and roasted cicadas. Yummy. Don't it make your mouth water.
