YouTube is your friend and a question about Splash Mountain

So first about YouTube. My 10 year old was adamant about not going on certain rides like 7DMT because he thought they'd be too scary (he's not a risk taker) so I found videos of those rides and showed them to him and now that he pretty much knows what to expect, he's agreed to go on a few rides that were once off limits for him.

With that said, and to my SM question: is it really as annoying and loud during the indoor part as the video shows it to be? My son said he didn't want to ride it because the music was too much and the animatronics were "creepy". I don't really care one way or another it's just that I don't remember it being like that when I went over 20 years ago.

I don't think that its loud or creepy, and my kids have never said that, either.

OP-- don't assume that the loudness is actually loud, it might be the quality of the video recording (in fact, I'd assume that before ever imagining the ride was too loud...the last time we rode we thought the volume was actually too low)

Funny thing is I don't remember the animatronics or the music at all from the first time I went to WDW but then I almost forgot that I went 20+ years ago.

One person's idea of "annoying and creepy" is someone else's favorite thing. Your son may (and sounds like does) have a different take on it than you.

My kids were worried about the animatronic creepiness (not just SM either), and found them to be nothing but really cool and engaging. Disney does a good job of avoiding the uncanny valley.

It's my favorite ride actually. If it's overwhelming, it's because there's so much to see and hear, not because it's too loud. We find new things each ride.

Did I mention it's my favorite ride? :)

Splash is considered my many (most?) park fans to be one of the, if not the THE, "most Disney" of all ride experiences.

True and videos aren't absolutely accurate. Tower of Terror seems downright tame on video but I know it's not. Watching the coaster videos made him not scared so that's good.

My youngest isn't a risk taker either. He LOVED the beginning of the ride. The animatronics and the atmosphere were fascinating to him...the fall, not so much. When we got off the ride he was mad they "ruined a perfectly great ride with that stupid drop."

I did this too with my kids before our last trip!!! Splash Mountain was one ride my DS (5) said he would NEVER go on... until I showed him videos on YouTube. He realized the drop isn't really that scary. He was slightly nervous the first time we did it but LOVED it and he and my daughter (3) went on it like four more times over the course of the week. Its my entire family's favorite ride!

This is EXACTLY what I'm doing with DD7. Showing her each ride, and talking her through them. I'm also sharing the ones I know there is no way, to build trust that I'm not going to drag her on rides that will terrify her.

From our first visit to Disney, many attractions have resulted in meltdowns in the queue. Even a bug's life. At 2.5, she went screaming out of the theater with us chasing after her as soon as the lights went dim.
