is it wrong to get out of line and has fiance stay in line hold our spot and just come back after she uses the bathroom? Last year DD was still in diapers, now she is on the potty (as of now she WON'T wear undies, just pull ups, but she hasn't had accidents in a while, we'll see what May brings) so we didn't have to worry about this.

Is that proper line waiting etiquette haha. My daughter is the type that I ask her 10xs if she has to go then all of the sudden she has to go and we have to make a mad dash. This is my fear at the parks, waiting on a long line and as we approach she suddenly has to go....or being on a ride and she suddenly has to go.

Pray for us, I just may keep her in the pull ups in case of an accident.

Must be a girl thing! DD was 4 last year when we went...I just made her go everytime I thought about it and there was never an issue. She is one of the worst kids about holding it til she can't hold it anymore! I know I wouldn't have a problem if you had to step out of line and take her...I would help make sure you had place to come back to. I don't know why anyone else would object. One thing to remember though is that PullUps aren't as absorbant as diapers. They tend to keep wetness close to the childs skin (to help them learn to sense when they have to go). In May she will be sweating and I'd be concerned about the PullUp holding that sweat next to her precious little bottom!

We have had to do the same thing with both of our girls and most people are understanding. Don't sweat it!

Anyone giving you grief is just looking for a reason to get mad anyway!

I see no problem with this. You were there to begin with and are coming back. And if your fiance is in line to get on the attraction, most of which you'd all be on the same "car" then it would be the same difference. It is not like you hopping back in mid-line is going to make anyone miss their turn, maybe just have to wait a few extra seconds for 2 more people to board. And if they get mad, then above pp is right, their just looking for something!

I'd rather have a kid hopping back in than a sad uncomfortable wet one!

This I could see acceptable...what I don't find acceptable is when one person is in line and then they make a phone call and about 12 of their family members show up just as they are about to walk on the ride...THAT PI$$E$ me off and I am one that will not keep my mouth shut!!! So just don't cut in front of me and you will be fine...:cool1: Just kidding I know that kids have to go the minute they think about it!!! I have 2 of my own and they still do the pee pee dance!!:rotfl:

I know this isn't the most pleasant thing but our life saver during potty training was a portable potty with disposable liners. IT folds flat and you pull out the legs and have in it a little liner which has a pad on the bottom to absorb liquid. The child sits on it - wees - and then you just tie up the bag and pop it in a bin. Or put in a nappy sack (just in case!) and keep it till you are next to a bin.

I know its not great to do in a line but there may be situations where it may be needed. Actually if you have bags to put down by you and use it very discreetly most people don't even notice you are using it.

It may take away the worry of her not getting to a toilet in time and also maybe she could wear proper pants without the panic of her wetting them.

We always left the line and returned to the end after the potty break.

My kids learned pretty fast to go potty during a potty break or risk leaving a line and possibly missing an attraction.

If we exit the line for any reason, we re-enter at the back when we come back (if we come back). I personally don't have a problem letting a parent and child back in, but it is still line jumping and there will be people that have a problem with it. My dd was 2 on our last trip (almost 3) and was completely potty trained in panties - I never had to leave a line with her; I did have to leave out of Test Track with ds5 - we didn't go back.

I'm sorry, are you saying allow the child to squat/pee in a bag in line?

I was halfway through the line at great movie ride with the 3yo DD, asked cast member where nearest bathroom was, and she told us to come back to side door, and she wold let us back into the line roughly the same spot we were. Don't expect this, but it can happen :) We are a party of 2, so we never have a "place holder" to help on trips :(

IF you look at the link you will see that it is not a bag! Its a real little potty which is discreet. And yes while a child is potty training as long as it is used discreetly it is ideal. Is it not better than wetting their clothes?

I'm sorry, I don't see how a child pulling down their pants, exposing their naked rearend could be discreet - I wouldn't want to expose my child's naked private areas to that many strangers.

You wouldn't have to expose their bits to the world. Are you serisously telling me that you would never use a travel potty in public? Its amazing that these products win awards and so many people buy them isn't it? I have used mine in a huge variety of places and I always try to shield my child and I have never had anyone really notice. isn't the most important thing that the child gets to have their wee on the potty instead of in their pants? I also carry disinfectant gel for afterwards.

No, allowing a child to go potty in line is not "discreet". There are restrooms all over the place at WDW.

Yes, I am seriously telling you I would never use a travel potty out in the open. I do not see how you can undress your child in line, sit them on the potty, wait for them to finish, wipe them, sanitize (please) and move with the line without holding up the line. And to do all of this with no one noticing or without "exposing" their bits to the world.

To the OP:

I think the general opinon is: leaving the line to take a little one to the restroom is fine. Some people suggest (if possible) to alert a CM. Usually they are VERY helpful and understanding in those situations.

Have a wonderful trip!

I fretted over this when we were taking our DD (now 7) when she was a newly potty trained barely-4yo, but it turned out to be a completely avoidable circumstance. Rather than asking her to tell me when she had to go, I just periodically said "Oh, here's a bathroom. Let's go try, just in case" and she never did have to go an an inconvenient time.

I think every parent with a newly p/t'd child at WDW worries about this! We also just made frequent potty stops "just in case" and ds never had a problem. I'm sure if one of us had to leave the line and come back, most people would be understanding. Definitely, if you can, alert a CM. They, of all people, should be helpful in this circumstance. I'm sure it must happen frequently.

So if you wouldn't use a travel potty in the open when would you use it? In the bathroom?

Not going to argue about this because it is a bit pathetic. Obviously if there are restrooms nearby i would use them but in an EMERGENCY I don't see the problem. I have seen others do it in WDW and not thought anything of it. And i don't take all her clothes off - and there is no exposing. I try to cover her up. I am not in the habit of exposing my childrens bits to the whole wide world.

I would imagine that a child would be glad to have a parent who is not so uptight that they can't do a wee in a potty instead of wetting themselves.

As has been said already I think the best thing to do is to go regularly and get them to try. The CMs may be able to help. If not then as some other people would advise - let them wet the floor.

The travel potty's were created for road trips, camping, etc. not for standing in lines at theme parks. I can honestly say that NO I would never allow my child to pee/poop in public in front/around people - that's what the bathroom is for and there are bathrooms everywhere at Disney. The OP's child is 4 years old - that's quite old enough to have enough bladder/bowel control to get to a bathroom - my children were all in panties/undershorts by their 2nd birthdays and we never carried around a potty so they could go when the urge struck. They held it in the car, they can surely hold it in the lines.
