OP - when I started reading your post I thought you were going to complain about the gift. I was just getting ready to type a response to let you know what a blessing a quiet dishwasher is, especially if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, like we do.

oh i am not complaining-this is just something so unlike my mil it floored me (she usualy gets dh and i nice smaller gifts for the holidays so this was a huge surprise)-completly out of the blue.

IT'S IN AND I LOVE IT!!!! for the first time in my life i can get both cookie sheets, the huge and the big frying pan, and a large casserol dish done in one load!!!! and i can actualy talk on the phone while it's running (used to have to hide in the bedroom to hear anything). it also has a function i've never seen on a dishwasher before "rinse", according to the book it's for when items don't need a full washing just a rinse off-like holiday dishes that are kept in the china hutch all year (this will def. get tested later today).

SO I AM THANKFUL, VERY THANKFUL!
