Hi Friends!
I'm planning to hit Food and Wine a few times next week.
I'll be with DW and DD9, so I don't expect to hit (m)any of the alcohol offering, so I'm curious about eats.

What are your 2 or 3 best treats from this year?
Did anything really surprise you?
Thanks!

Smoked Corned Beef with Crispy Potatoes, Cheese Curds, Pickled Onions and Beer-Cheese Fondue - Flavors From Fire
Capirotada de Chocolate: Chocolate Bread Pudding served with Chocolate Abuelita Crème Anglaise - Mexico
Duck Confit Poutine with Fig Demi Sauce and Brie Cheese Fondue - Refreshment Port
Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato and Corn Mealie Pap and Kachumbari Slaw - Africa

We loved the corned beef from flavors of fire. Our second favorite was the ravioli carbonara from Italy.

This is in no particular ranking order. Ravioli Carbonara from Italy, the Cheese and Potato dish from Germany (can't recall its name offhand), the cheese bread from Brazil and the Raclette from the Alps. Can you tell I like cheese?

We didn't try this one because we're carbonara purists and carbonara should not have cream in it! I'm sure it was still tasty, though, because it's mostly cheese and bacon.

Some of our personal favorites (all of these are over 6$ and also a single snack credit each.)

The chimichurri skirt steak from flavors from fire
The roasted lamb chop from Australia
Charcuterie in a cone from Spain
Hummus Fries in Morocco
Filet Mignon in Canada

Personally I loved EVERYTHING at the India booth, and the Ireland booth. Thailand had and Amazing Curry, and the Jerk Chicken at the Islands of the Caribbean was great too.

I understand that. It's an interesting and tasty interpretation of a carbonara, but a pure carbonara it is not. You really can't beat a well made carbonara. My guess is Disney didn't want to risk food borne illness claims from the egg component, because you know someone would try to.

I'm not exactly a "foodie" so some of the items during the festival just sounds downright gross to me, but the only thing I specifically ate more than once was the Spam hash from Hawaii.

New England Lobster Roll without the mayo and Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese icing at Hops & Barley (had that twice this week)
Beer Braised beef with smoked Gouda mashed potatoes and Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote at Belgium
Boeuf Braise a la Bordelaise with Pomme Dauphins - really, really good and Crème Brulee at France
Cheddar and Bacon Soup and Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon at Canada (get these every time we go to F&W)
Chocolate Baklava at Morocco (don't share this, it's too good)
Ropa Vieja Empanada wasn't as good as it was in previous years (Islands of the Caribbean - used to be Patagonia I think)
Grilled Sweet and Spicy Bushberry Shrimp and Roasted Lamb Chop, also deconstructed Pavlova at Australia
Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle and Dark Chocolate Raspberry Tart at the Chocolate Studio
Lump Crab cake and Baked Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Dip (ooooh, this was so good) at Coastal Eats
Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato and Corn Mealie Pap and Kachumbari Slaw - Africa (my husband had this and he said the meat was very tough, not tenderloin)

If you are a scallops fan, get them anywhere you can. They were all good according to my husband (I'm not a fan).

We ate all of these in three days and did two dining events on two other days. There were a lot of booths that we didn't even go to because we were either getting full or had somewhere we had to go and couldn't stop.

Hold the phone...you can get the lobster roll WITHOUT the mayo????

Sure, just ask for it without the mayo when you hand over your receipt to pick up your item.

It was so hot while we were there that while nothing was bad, nothing tasted outstanding to us with the exception of Schinkennudeln
Pasta Gratin with Ham, Onions, and Cheese from Germany. That dish was surprisingly good! We have to try again in cooler weather!

My family agrees that we all thoroughly enjoyed the Corned Beef and the Skirt Steak dishes at Flavors from the Fire, the Kenya Coffee Barbecue Beef Tenderloin at Africa, and best sweet treat, hands down, was the Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle at Chocolate Studio.

I want to eat ALL the things. 27 days to go! Some of my favorites from 2017 that are repeats this year are the corned beef, Belgian waffles, schnikkenudeln (I’m sure I butchered that spelling), carrot cake, hummus fries, Irish sausage with potatoes, pulled pork slider, cheddar cheese soup, and the nitro chocolate dessert. Yum!
