This isn't mean to start anything.
But every other board has a thread like this.

How do you feel about the new policy, banning political and religious threads?

Maybe a webmaster will come on here and answer some of the questions we have.

We have worked hard to keep the DISboards a place where people can discuss any topic as long as it's not illegal or profane, and as long as the participants can behave respectfully. Unfortunately, politics and religion often seem to bring out the worst behavior in people. Even normally polite posters find these topics pushing their hot buttons, and frequently lose their cool.

This past election season has been especially bad, and the rudeness and sniping between various groups has alienated posters and exhausted our moderators.

As a result, we are announcing a new policy on the DISboards, effective immediately: POLITICS AND RELIGION are no longer acceptable topics of discussion here.

This also will extend to signatures: no political statements, logos, or slogans are permitted in signatures.

Posts and threads of a political or religious nature will be locked or deleted, and are not to be restarted. We will also be updating our site guidelines to reflect this policy.

There are many sites on the web that welcome discussion and debate of a political or religious nature, but we feel that removing these topics from the DISboards altogether is in the best interests of our members. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

I'm not quite fond of it, to be honest.

We're teenagers, and we find debating to be not only enjoyable, but healthy. We're curious about the world around us, and we'd like to discuss important current events.

I may not love the fighting, but the political/religion threads can sometimes be the best ones.

Ehh.
I don't know. I can see why it's implemented, it'll solve a lot of problems...
But I'll miss those threads, it takes away a lot of topics because you can take anything politcally, and you can REALLY take anything religiously.

ITA with Hilary.

I never participated in those threads but they were interesting to read, but then again they did get pretty nasty at points.

I'm a bit peeved actually. I'd like to think that we all handled these subjects maturely here on the TB. I understand why it was put in place - the CB was overridden with political mumbo jumbo.

What I don't understand is why we can't just have the Debate Board back? We would still be able to talk about those subjects, but they wouldn't be swamped all over the CB or something.

Are we not to talk about the recession because it's politics related? Are we not to talk about losing our jobs because it's politics related? Are we not allowed to ask for prayers because it's religious related? Are we not to keep holiday pics in our signatures because it's religious related?

I'm just confused really, and a bit peeved.

I actually really liked all the debate threads.
I can see why they had to implement the new policy--especially because of how nasty the boards on the CB got. I think we had some healthy debate here on the TB. And I'll miss those threads, because I really do like hearing everyones takes on political and/or religious matters.

ITA with you Sonya.

But I read somewhere a Webmaster said asking for prayers is not considered religious, so we are still allowed to do that.

What I would consider religious is: "Wow did you see what this church did?!?!"
or "Your views on abortion."

Do we not have freedom of speech anymore?

Are we supposed to ask for "nice, non-denominational thoughts" now?

My favorite threads are the debating ones, which 99% of the time, involve politics and religion.

I think the new policy is ridiculous, honestly. This place isn't just about Disney, it's a place where friends meet up and discuss current events. So where are they gonna talk about them now?

Honestly, this place seems very conservative now. Seriously, we can't even say ******. Which is a human organ, nothing nasty or gross about it. We can't go to a certain website.

BUT, it is their website, and they make the rules. So I guess if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else.

I mean like, say we bring up something and we think it's not religious aat all.
But then someone brings in God for whatever reason, maybe because it's a thread looking for guidance?

Aw, picking and choosing. Love it.

I think its stupid to tell you the truth...but because of the immaturity in people on how they can not accept other people's views it had to happen.

One more thing. Now the CB will start talking about rainbows and freaking french fries again, I swear.

Oh geez.

I was just getting involved in a liberal thread over there, and now it's cancelled. Great.

This is what the CB is gonna be soon:

"POLL: Should I wear my bright red suit with orange flip flops or my hot pink bunny slippers?"
"My grandma got in an accident this afternoon. She's now bleeding profusely from a gap in her skull. You can see her brain. It's Sunday. Should we go to the ER or wait until her doctors appointment on Friday afternoon?"
"MumboJumboFumboi Fan Club. JOIN OUR CLIQUE!"
"The doorman at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC was sooo rude. He didn't even give me the complimentary champagne like he was supposed to!"
"I'm in debt by $100000000, but I want a Disney trip so I'm going NOW!"

Dear gracious, I know, Sonya.

:headache:

I can only imagine what the TB is gonna wind up as.

All very good topics aren't they?

The door man is always rude.
