Your suggestions for better food at DW

Decent coffee would be a nice start.

I like the idea of soups, especially soup in a bread bowl. If the local Renaissance Festival can manage to get that right, I'm sure Disney could!

And how hard is it to make a decent pizza? I mean, even my 9yo can manage that.

We don't really eat much counter service but overall I don't think Disney does a terrible job with it. When we want something quick we can always find something reasonably appealing even though none of us are big fans of burgers/hot dogs/fries type take-out. But it seems like they do the worst at things that should be the easiest, like a good cheeseburger, hot dog (please bring back the all-beef dogs at Caseys, pretty please!) or pizza while more unusual choices at places like Columbia Harbour House and the World Showcase quick service are done to a higher standard of quality.

I am sorry, I just do not have the hang of the quotes thing.

I would like to see salad bars.
I would also like soups
don't like wheat buns

Salad bars would be hard to maintain at a CS place but they could have as nice a salad as McD or Wendy's puts out one would think. Soups sound lovely in colder weather and easy to eat in cups maybe not so much in bread bowls. Would taste good though. I vote for Butternut Squash myself. If you could use a gluten free bun they are yours for the asking.

Decent coffee
decent pizza
unusual choices

I do not drink coffee but will take you at your word. I love their tea, one thing they get right IMO. I would like to see CS pizza places ala Subway where you could pick your ingredients and crust style. Unusual choices used to be a main reason to go to DW for us. Not so much anymore.:sad1:

Disnsyncey, is truly frustrating when they take away items that were so popular. Makes one wonder what they are thinking. There are many unpopular things that they could delete. :confused3

tinkrebell, great minds etc.

The suggestions have to be things that can easily be prepared and eaten as these are CS places and some pasta dishes would be difficult, maybe if you used the smaller pastas? You could pick the pasta of your choice and then add the sauce of your choice and of course extra for meatballs. :)

Hope my reply came out alright.

I think they could make it so much better just by fixing the food they already have!

1.) Get rid of those gross buns. I love whole grains and eat them regularly at home. The buns WDW has are bad. They are hard and brittle, frequently crumbling around the food. They are bland and spongy. I also sincerely doubt they are appreciably better for us than plain white. They need to either start using soft, high quality white buns or they need to offer a choice.

2.) Fix the disgusting pizza. Dominos can put out a passable pizza in minutes for pennies. I don't see why WDW can't do the same. There is no excuse for the hideousness of their pizza. If they could even improve to Dominos quality it would be a 100% improvement.

3.) Switch to all-beef hot dogs. If Costco can sell me a gigantic hot dog and a drink for $1.50, I'm sure WDW can figure out how to sell a high-quality dog and still make a profit.

4.) Start serving real desserts. I don't know what those pre-packaged things are, but I'm sure they lost any resemblance to actual food two factories ago. How hard is it to bake a fresh cookie? Slice up a pie, cake, or brownie? If you're going to insist we all have dessert, at least make it something I couldn't use to complete a home improvement project.

If they could fix these big areas, I think a lot of the CS problems could be solved. There is quite a bit of variety available at CS. If they can make their "core" foods tasty and high quality, I think that would clear up a lot of the complaints.

Between the sandwiches at Columbia Harbour House, the meal at Kringla Bakeri and Sunshine seasons and some excellent meals at WPE and Earl of Sandwich, we managed to avoid those miserable buns. And the only pizza we ate was a couple of excellent ones at WPE express. The sandwiches at Starring Rolls were pretty good as was our meal at Yak and Yeti. In fact, our only marginal meal was at Fairfax Fare and that was only because it wasn't that appetizing looking. Of course, I must admit I love the pre-packaged triple chocolate cake.

pearlieq, you are right on the money. It really does not matter what you cook if you do not use the best ingredients and then take care in the preparation.:thumbsup2:worship::cheer2: A simple solution for ails all of us.

My dear, I am sure that you are a delightful person and wise in many areas but that has to rank right up there with the folks who go gaga over the frozen Stouffer's Mac and Cheese at LTT. :grouphug: Have to give you a big hug over that and hope the Tag Fairy is watching and noticing. Just kidding you.:) I was right with you about your favorite places to eat though. If Puck's can turn out great food maybe Disney should just turn over all food service to them or other outside companies? PS, feel free to kid me right back. I am sure that you can find plenty to do so with. I know I can.:lmao:

I know salad bars would be hard to maintain, but a girl can wish. :goodvibes

Your gluten free suggestion raises a good point. I honestly don't know if I can have gluten free or not. Luckily, I have a dietitian at my dialysis center that I can ask. Usually, I don't have anything to say to her because I follow my diet pretty diligently, so at least now I'll have something to say when she comes by for her weekly visit.

Brandi1leigh, :goodvibes I know about those dreams. I figure you might as well dream big if you are gonna dream at all.

My personal dream is either touch screen tables or tablets at each CS table. Folks go in, sit down and then punch in their order, swipe their card and the food is delivered to their table. With the savings on staff it should more than pay for the technology and add a whole new dimension to Disney dining. No lines, no confusion. Wonderful! Not to worry about the staff no longer needed to man the cash registers and such they can work behind the scenes and improve the food quality as well as efficiency of service. :thumbsup2

My dream for computerized park touring is yet another dream and the subject for another thread.:rotfl2:

My son had Celiac disease and that is why I know about the gluten free buns. Nowadays there are so many products that were not available back then and I am sorely glad. I know for a fact that you can ask for a gluten free bun at any CS or TS Disney food place. I once made a little boy with his grandma very happy with that information. It was lovely.:lovestruc I hope that works for you. Do you eat any bread products and if so what kinds?

Honey , if you are ever at a lack for things to say just contact me. I am full of it. :dance3:

:thumbsup2 Totally agree, DH and I tend to skip QS in the parks because we like to have a nice sit down meal and we prefer not to be in the parks at lunch time, but the few park QS meals we had were not very good.

The pizza at pizza planet in DHS was just gross I used to make english muffin pizzas in elementary school in my toster oven that were better, just nasty.

The coffee is just plain bad at most places which is so silly, I mean seriously it is coffee, it is not that difficult!!!!!

On the other hand we had wonderful sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich at DTD for a lower price than that horrible pizza, I just don't get it!

I think Disney has some really great CS options. Such as Wolfgang Puck Express, Earle of Sandwich, yak and yeti express, and Sunshine Seasons.
But ITA with:

1. More options for the childrens menu
2. Get rid of the nasty buns (i love whole wheat products but these are gross).
3. All beef hot dogs
4. Good pizza (with the exception of WPE...i find toy story pizza planet semi-edible).
5. More computized ordering stations like at Pecos.
6. Salad bars would be devine! Especially on a hot day. If they do hamburger fixin' stations, why can't they do salad bar stations? And on the flip side, soup stations in the colder months would be great as well.

I would like to see more "street food" options, especially for lunches. Also, more breakfast options! The Main Street bakery is crazy busy in the mornings and if we want to get in at rope drop we often don't have time to eat at the hotel.

And please better coffee! Almost anything would be better than the liquid they try to pass off as coffee.

vcgirl925, Puck's and Earl of Sandwich are not run by Disney and I think the other two are but am not sure. Seems to me that if the outside vendors can serve up good food then Disney could surely do the same. :confused3

TakeMe2Disney, I am with you on the Main Street Bakery having more seating. There is some more just a tad bit back toward the entrance in an alleyway. You can also take your food down toward the MS ice cream shop and there is lots of seating there and a bit further down but it is not so good in cold weather, not that it is EVER cold in Florida.:)

gillep, your comment about English Muffin Pizza would be funny if it were not so very true. :thumbsup2

Making things less frustrating, especially for those with small children, to order and get your food would help a lot in addition to Pearlieq's simple solution, as all great solutions are!:cool1: It is difficult enough for me to wait in line, sometimes two different lines :confused3:confused3:confused3, to order for just me and my husband sometimes.

Price is not as important when you feel like you are getting a quality product and are treated like a guest rather than surviving a cattle drive. (might help a bit if more people understood that you can go on either side of the ordering lectern though).

As for the Table Service places I have gotten some pretty bad food in some of those places as well and it is insult to injury in that I am paying a whole lot more for such food AND then the mandatory tip, regardless of standard of service. I was once advised that I owed $15 for a tip at a meal where I did not receive one drink refill and they did not take away my dirty plates until they gave me the bill, at a buffet where I had a soggy Oreo. Now how in the heck does one mess up an Oreo?:lmao:

Back to thinking good thought and getting my final agenda done. Anyone want to know where we are eating?

Another vote to get rid of those disgusting buns.
We used most of our CS credits at DTD or at Pepper Market, and only had 1 QS meal in the parks. Cosmic Ray's used to be a favorite but this time was just barely edible.
How come Earl of Sandwich can whip up some delicious sandwiches for $5.99 but Disney charges nearly $10 for a nasty burger??
