Your School Calendar

Just curious as to how many DIS'ers have year round school vs Traditional summers off.

We have traditional schedule with summers off. I'd LOVE to try year round, though.

DD's school is traditional, but I have several nieces and nephews on year round. Ironically they each have close to the same amount of time off in the summer, there may be a 3 week difference.

We have the summers off, however, word is that our school will be the pilot for our district to begin year round schooling for the 2004-2005 calendar year. Personally, I think it would be easier for the kids to transition back into the school work mode. In our area, parents are objecting who will have kids on different school scheduled for grade school and middle school. I can see their point. I think in order for it to work well for families it needs to be done in an entire area, not just one school. I couldn't imagine trying to get a grade school child up and out of the house if their older brother/sister were off or vice versa.

Year-round school here, and we LOVE it. DD gets six weeks off in the summer, a month from early December to early January and a month in the spring. We can take off-season vacations and the kids don't lose NEARLY as much knowledge over the summer.

Ours is the only elementary school in the district with this schedule and the school also has the highest test scores. Teachers love the schedule too.

My school district has a traditional schedule, but I can think of one major advantage to year round school....we could go to WDW in the winter and I wouldn't have to miss classes!

Our school is progressing towards the all year, but they're calling it a traditional school year for now.

Traditional here, summers off, but I would love to try year round for all the reasons already listed.
