Your Prayers Are Needed (Katrina) (NYPD)

Ok i didnt know where to post this. So mods feel free to move.

I know we are all praying for the victims of Katrina. But Im asking for prayers for my partner. He is an Nypd officer. And we are both HUGE Disney fans. As you may or may not know, Hurricane Katrina was devastating. It obliterated 1 state, and most of 2 others. Over ten thousand are dead, and floating in the water the alive are living in. Looters are taking over the cities, and shooting each other, and ANYBODY who tries to stop them. These states now look like 3rd world countries. We all sit here and think “that’s sad” and do nothing about it. Well today Kirk (my partner & NYPD officer) was sent there for 3 weeks, with out a warning, and without even being able to say goodbye at 2AM. He will be in a task force to either stop looters, or recover victims. Kirk has a bad back, and a huge heart. He is going to put everyone and everything before his own safety. So I’m asking that you all to keep him and all the service men and women in your prayers. They can use all the prayers, support, and pixie dust you can send our way.

Thank You! And God Bless.

Prayers for you and him!!

Wow, everything I've read and seen on the local news said all of the NYPD that went were volunteers. Did he at least get to go home and pack or anything?

Wow - we went to visit my parents this weekend and coming back home today we saw a caravan of NYPD cars headed south. We were amazed that help would come from so far away. We smiled and waved at them. :goodvibes

I'm sure the people where they're going will be really glad to see them! I hope he returns soon, safe and sound, although I'm sure he'll have some horrific stories to tell :guilty:

Um, I'm no thug..but you betcha I'd be taking a gun with me if I had to evacuate my home...and had to fend for myself....and my kids.

Exactly. I blame no one for arming themselves - I'm not a gun owner but this situation has made me think I need to become one. If the goverment is going to leave people in a cesspool for days with roving gangs of killers, rapists, thugs, and just general bad people we have no choice but to put the power in our own hands.

The very fact that guns exist bothers me; a hunk of metal made specificly to take human life. Unfortunately, it's a fact we have to live with because there are just so many crazy, sick people in this world and if the government is not going to help us in a timely manner when we need defense, you are darn tootin' I'd do it myself.

Well I have read this again and stand by what I said before. You do not know these so called lazy people and have no clue why they are on government help (if that is even the case). Also how can you compare these people to illegal aliens? These are citizens of the United States of America (emphases on the United part). Also what does the chief of police not being from Oklahoma have anything to do with this? :confused3

Belle, I understand you're upset about aggie's comments, but believe me when I tell you, it's a legitimate concern. Don't believe me, here are some cold, hard facts:

The Lafayette Police Department reported Sunday that 1/3 of their arrests this past weekend were (former) New Orleans residents. We've taken in some 40,000 evacuees, some of which won't make the most desirable neighbors.

Gun sales have gone through the roof in Lafayette since the storm hit on Monday. Many gun shops/sporting goods stores are reporting their inventory is empty and they don't expect shipments for another two weeks.

There is definitely a cause for concern. Considering that New Orleans is the murder capital per capita, there's a good chance that some of the "less desirable" will end up in a neighborhood near us.

And I've been at the Cajundome shelter and met a lot of the evacuees, and I would say 99% of them are very nice, loving people. But 1% can spoil all the fun in a hurry.

Like aggie said, it's easy to be apalled at her comments when your city is not the one taking in the evacuees en masse. I, for one, welcome them with open arms, but that doesn't mean I'm not worried the crime rate will go up a little. It's just logic, a 40,000 spike in population will likely lead to crime going up.

And that was proven this past weekend in Lafayette. And it was proven a couple of times this past week in Baton Rouge.

P.S. Give your DH 1,000,000,000,000 hugs when you see him on behalf of me, my family and everyone in this great state. We appreciate EVERY SINGLE BIT OF HELP!

I can understand disneyaggie's concerns and have the same myself for those we're getting here. I believe it's a legitimate concern. The South does not need to absorb all of these people! The North, NE, NW... everyone needs to share in the burden. People are not even acknowledging that we're also dealing with refugees from MS and So. AL. Of course, our local and state gov'ts (in AL & MS) handled this crisis very well and we haven't had the same problems as N.O.

These are poor people who have lived all their lives in LA. How are they going to get back home? I saw one man yesterday with a bunch of kids, his wife admitted to the hospital, on their way to the shelter. His kids were all excited about going to school on Tuesday. He looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders - which he did.

They moved nursing home patients out of Houston to Idaho. Idaho!!! Talk about a culture shock. How are their family members going to get them home? Idaho, the home of White Supremecy in the United States. They probably think Tony Chachere is an NBA star. Newest residents, poor black folks from Louisiana.

Utah is another state the Rick Perry is negotiating sending some of the evacuees to. Not many Southern Baptists in Utah. Now, if they are asking people who would like to go to Utah, that's a different thing. I don't think that is happening.

You have to keep these people close to their home so when they can go back, they will be able to go back.

Thank you all your kind words and prayers.

Just got a call (1:09AM) Kirk is doing good.
They have evacuated over one thousand people in the past days.

Best of luck to your partner. My thoughts are with both you guys. Just sent you a PM.

Sending my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the update.... I'm sure you're comforted to know that his efforts are worthwhile.
