My brother, for the second time, has posted a link on Facebook to a "gofundme" account.
The first time was when he was trying to get people to donate money so he could get dental work done.
Yesterday, it was so people could donate money to pay for his son's uniform for an extra-curricular activity.
I just rolled my eyes, because that is just how he is.
But I was wondering what everyone thought about the internet being an opportunity to try to raise money for various items.
I totally get raising money from friends/family for a funeral or extreme medical emergency. But for a school uniform or dental care?? To me, that is similar to online panhandling.

I'm not bothered as much by the mailings, but I sat on the board of a non profit group, and it killed me to see how much we spent on the mailers and the postage as compared to the return in donations (I honestly feel if a person is inclined to make a donation to a group, receiving multiple mailers for donations causes them to question how funds are being managed). if I received an e-mail with a link to a site that I knew was secure, and had a reputation for charging a MINIMAL fee out of proceeds I might be inclined to donate via that route.
