I'm trying to itemize our projected expenses for our upcoming DLR trip and was wondering what your favourite restaurants in the immediate vicinity of DLR are. Tentatively, we are staying at the Ramada Inn Maingate on S. Harbour, so any fairly inexpensive restaurants very close to that area would be ideal. I've already heard not to go to Captain Kidd's though LOL :crazy2:

Your input is appreciated! ::yes::

I know Mimi's is a favorite with everyone! :)

Mimi's and Millie's are both great, and if you have access to a car, the Red Robin down by Target is another one of our favorite cheap eats!

Does anyone have any comments on Bubba Gump Shrimp Company? I was planning on taking the family one night for dinner.

we LOVE this place. We try to go every trip now. However, they are by no means inexpensive.

Here are a few we like:

Mimi's Cafe (S. Harbor, across from DL)

Red Robin (S. Harbor, across from Target)
Joe's Crab Shack (")
Outback (")

Cheesecake Factory (Anaheim Garden Walk on Katella)
Bubba Gump's (")

Storyteller's Cafe (GCH)
Whitewater Snacks (")

Goofy's Kitchen (DLH)

Mimis is good, I dont useually eat to much outside the park so I cant help you to much. I have stayed at that hotel though its pretty good. They have a free breakfast which is pretty descent and I didnt dine at any but there are tons of resturants surrounding it.

We liked their food and the environment is quite fun. Their portions are quite big, so my DD and I usually share. They do have a kiddie menu.

BTW, I went to their menu recently and noticed it was not the same as when we went in July 2008. (Check it out at www.bubbagump.com.)
So my comments are based on our experience last year. The majority of their entrees were in the $14 to $18 range. We try to avoid anything deep fried, but when we go to Bubba Gump's, we liked to share the onion ring tower for an appie. Hard to say "no" to that!

:flower3: Thanks for the info! Glad to hear (read) it has a great reputation. :thumbsup2 I'll keep in on our itinerary.

On Harbor walking distance from DL go to
Mimi's, Millie's, Denny's, McD's.
Avoid these
Capt Kidds (you already know why lol), IHOP (prices are INSANE here, not worth it at all)

Down Harbor a ways you've got a Joe's Crab Shack & Red Robin. BOTH are verrrrrrrrryyyyy good places to eat but you do need a car or to take a taxi to get there. Taxis are very easy to find tho, they are plentiful right outside of DL.

Also down Harbor a ways is the Gardenwalk. Bubba Gump (YUM!!!!! We love Bubba Gump, we eat here when we visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium), Cheesesteak Factory, PF Changs, CA Pizza Kitchen and a few more that I can't remember. You can walk here but it's a hike depending on where you're staying. For instance, we are staying at the HoJo, I don't want to walk from the HoJo to the GardenWalk, but if I was staying at the CCI I wouldn't have any problems with it. :)
In DTD you've got Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen (YUM), RFC (YUM), Tortilla Joe's, ESPN Zone and the House of Blues, oh and Catal and Napoli and La Brea Bakery as well. Some of these are less $$$ than others, we always go to the RFC tho, it's good! :)

...oh and Catal and Napoli and La Brea Bakery as well.
I've seen Napoli mentioned a few times on the board as good. I was quite surprised! We ordered a pizza one night to eat in our room at DH. It was almost $40 and THE WORST pizza we had ever had. :scared: I liked the thin crust, but if that sauce wasn't from a can of Hunts, well, I don't know... Now I know everyone has different tastes, but wow, I'm surprised anyone would like it. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing? :confused3

Yes, Captain Kidds was TERRIBLE:sick: but it was almost midnight and we were starving. But next time I am starving and leaving DL, I will stop at McDonald's :rotfl: Mimis is good also. We ate almost all of our meals in the park just because it was easier and the food is awesome!

We did a take out pizza one night too. We were staying at the GCH and walked down and got a pizza. It was one of the best pizzas we have ever had. It was just me and the girls and we ate the whole pizza, we got a medium and thought we'd have leftovers...NOPE, not a bite left, not even the crust! LOL I don't know, I've heard varying reports about them.

I just wanted to add that I LOVE IHOP, and we usually eat there a few times. Many will disagree but I don't have one at home so I take advantage when I'm at Disneyland, even if it is pricey, for us it's a must eat at.

Oh and Mimi's is great we had breakfast there on our last trip.

Like mentioned, everyone has their own taste. I read other negative reviews elsewhere on this restaurant. That is why I didn't put it on my DLR dining list. Also, people complained the service was so slowwwwwwwwwwww and overpriced for what you get. If we have to eat at DTD, we may eat at RFC. No matter which one you go to, the food is at least average. So, we know what we're getting there. ;)

Mimi's is great for a nice quick meal. There's also a a Red Robin a few blocks down the street which is nice for a quick (and cheap burger). Bubba Gump's also does a good burger and similar food and has a great vibe. For something late at night I like the Ihop over the Dennys.

For nicer meals I'm a huge PF Changs fan and with the new Gardenwalk addition there's one within walking distance. CPK and Cheese Cake Factory are also in the Gardenwalk and make good stops.

There's an independent italian place that I've gone two just across from the park on Harbor. I never remember the name but it's very good and has awesome portions.

We did the CS at Napoli once and it was the worst thing I have ever tried to eat in my life! We were starving and still threw all the stuff away it was so awful!

My favorites at DTD

Jazz Kitchen, Catal and Uva Bar (I like to eat the appetizers as a meal and all ages are welcome).

At Garden Walk;

We have done Cheesecake Factory twice and they are always good, we have not eaten at that PF Changs but I know lots of people really like there food, and I think they are pretty good too.

As for Mimi's I think it is what it is. I thought it was ok, the place was a little messy when we went there and the food was only ok, but DH did not like it at all.

A little farther up Habor is also Buca di Beppo, they do family style italian that is pretty good and has really great prices if you remember its family style you get a lot of food to share!!!

That's funny because we have the exact same opinion as you about Mimi's. I think it is okay and DH doesn't like it at all. We've never been to the Mimi's by DLR but we often get dragged to one in Corona by DH's relatives who sometimes want to meet there for family gatherings. I always hear people raving over Mimi's on the boards so I thought maybe we were the only ones to have this opinion.

Also in DTD there is the RainForest Cafe; the prices are reasonable and I like the food and the atmosphere.

I agree that it's not the most amazing place but for out of towners who want a sandwich, salad or similar dish they're close to the park, have fairly good quality and aren't a rip off which is why I keep going back and suggesting them. Their muffins are however awesome.
