I am looking to buy the nursing floor that takes care of the cardiac patients at the hospital something for a Christmas treat. I am a Cardiology nurse practitioner and I want to purchase the nurses a treat/basket/food to show them how much I appreciate their hard work. :santa:

So what would you want me to send you if you worked on that floor? What is your favorite Christmas treat?

I am a nurse and our floor loves pretty much anything edible :rotfl: anything we love fruit trays, cookies, popcorn. One Dr brought a platter of Mexican food and everyone loved it!

I have to second the "anything edible" post. :thumbsup2

There is a group of doctors here who send every unit peanut brittle. I'm usually not a fan of that as it sticks to my teeth, but this stuff is awesome. It's always consumed immediately. I usually never get any. :rolleyes1

Which brings me to my actual contribution to this thread. Whatever you send, divide it into three parts, and label them "day" "evening" and "night" (or into two if the unit is on 12 hour shifts). It's a real bummer to get to work and see nothing but crumbs left on a platter of something you know was awesome. It would also be very nice to include a card thanking the nurses (and support staff) for being a great part of the team that cares for your patients. Things like that get posted in the break room and stay there for months, and sometimes years. It's great to go read something like that when you're having a bummer of a day. :goodvibes It means a lot to know your hard work is being recognized. Whatever food you send will be appreciated, but a handwritten note with specific examples of how a patient was helped would be treasured. :cloud9:

I agree about splitting it...I work night shift and coming to work and seeing a tray with nothing left on it is disappointing!!! We once came in and there was a gift labeled "night shift" from a patient, not only was the card opened by day shift the food was also eaten, we barely got any...just not cool!!!

and to answer your question...anything edible is yummy, and something that can sit out for 12 hours helps too :)

I'm guessing anything with a lot of butter and salt would be taboo among a group of Cardiac floor nurses. :rotfl2:

While I don't work in the nursing field (I drive school bus) all of us drivers chip in and get a big fruit/nut/snack gift basket for the mechanics and office people where we work. They seem to like it!!!

Chocolate is usually a safe bet.

I work in a retail office. Over the years our vendors have sent us a variety of popcorn tins from The Popcorn Factory, boxes of Godiva, towers of treats from Harry & David (fresh fruit/chocolate), cookies/brownies by Sheryl's, Shari's Berries (chocolate covered strawberries) and other assorted gift baskets filled with chocolates, crackers, etc. I don't think we've ever been disappointed. We usually have so many that we give them away to others in the building who help us throughout the year.

I work in health care and we love the Edible Arrangements:thumbsup2 Honestly, we get platters and platters of cookies, brownies, candies, and that sort of thing and most of us love getting some of the fruit on a stick. On the other hand, regular fruit baskets don't go over really well because who has time to peel or cut up the fruit? Easy to grab a chocolate covered strawberry and keep going:)

Another thing that goes over well is sandwich platters delivered just before mealtime. Most sandwich shops will do these or even your local supermarket. Nothing like having lunch delivered and ready when you are hungry.

When my mom worked in the ICU, they LOVED food gifts. They got ample plates of cookies, etc. but really loved when someone brought in veges/dip, cheese/meat trays, fruit trays, etc. Another option would be to have a sub shop bring in food for each shift so they all get to have some.
